Much of the work so far has focused on sharing awareness for communication availability in the work setting. Yet several recent trends suggest the need to reconsider the contexts and assumptions around awareness research. Increasing deployment of communication technology in homes and the blurring of home and work boundaries means that more communication interactions involve the home. The popularity of mobile smartphones adds the mobile context and the sensor capabilities integrated into mobile devices. Given the broadened scope of where and how communication occurs and the importance of being able to smoothly negotiate starting and ending conversations, there is an opportunity to reconsider awareness research in today's environment. We identify current challenges and opportunities in awareness research from perspectives beyond focusing just on the workplace to include technologies and use practices in the home and mobile contexts.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125170581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Centralized management approaches face the challenge of accessing and utilizing existing knowledge, as it is generated in numerous places throughout the manufacturing process chain. As this problem already exists within single organizations, it aggravates in networked production. To provide a structured analysis of knowledge fragmentation in a collaborative manufacturing environment, this paper presents an approach based on transforming the Johari Window for inter-organizational use. It sheds light on the state-of-the-art from a new perspective and presents future research challenges.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121072878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Credit card security is a major concern for any business establishment. With that in mind, it is hard to put the blame of credit card fraud on one entity versus another (card issuer, card holder, card processor, or funds collector) because all share the same risk. The answer to credit card security is to secure the payment process between the card issuer, and the card reader terminal. By securing those two end points and ensuring that card number is not known to any other entity between those two end points, the card itself would not hold any value even if it got lost or stolen. This paper introduces a new approach to credit card security which takes the pardon and the risk away from all entities by securing the card number so that only the issuer and the reader know what it is. Technically this approach reduces the chances of card fraud by exponential magnitude.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127918189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the areas cloud computing is increasingly being utilized for is large scale data processing. Apache Hadoop is one of these large scale data processing projects that supports data-intensive distributed applications. Hadoop applications utilize a distributed file system for data storage called Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). HDFS architecture, by design, has only a single master node called ame ode, which manages and maintains the metadata of storage nodes, called Datanodes, in its RAM. Hence, HDFS Datanodes' metadata is restricted by the capacity of the RAM of the HDFS's single-point-of-failure ame ode. This paper proposes a fault tolerant, highly available and widely scalable HDFS architecture. The proposed architecture provides a distributed ame ode space eliminating the drawbacks of the current HDFS architecture. This is achieved by integrating the Chord protocol into the HDFS architecture.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133194051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Internet of things (IoT) is being envisioned as the architecture of the future to assist in this regard. It will be created by combining sensing and communicating devices, which will provide data that can be analyzed and used to initiate automated actions. This structure of IoT has now given a new recognition to Wireless Sensor etworks (WS ) such that WS can be identified as the datacollecting component of the IoT. Efficient data collection from a large scale WS , with limited power supply, bandwidth and packet sizes, is a critical issue. One of the methods of data collection in a WS is through forming multiple clusters of the sensor nodes with one cluster head (CH) in each cluster. The objective of this work is to develop an energy efficient data collection environment for a large scale, randomly deployed cluster based wireless sensor networks by using a virtual grid based mechanism to localize the clusters and stabilize the cluster sizes in the network. This has been done as a precondition to implement the proposed differential data aggregation scheme for the spatially correlated data in a cluster.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133317507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The belief, to a certain extent, results from the prevalence of Internet. Therefore, we take it for granted that learners would prefer to access online contents. While most people believe the digital content enables students the capability to study without time and location constraints, Vernon [1] suggested that learners preferred to make paper copies of online material when the statement disallowing the behavior was not available. Furthermore, previous studies ([2][3]) also indicated that about half of students had such experiences to download or make a hardcopy of the electronic material. Taken together, the fact is that a high proportion of students are used to print out online material to help them study. The phenomenon seems surprising but reveals something important for academics and practitioners.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134128987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Agile Manifesto characterizes the term “agile”, and lists a set of principles that form a basis for agile methodologies [1], such as Extreme Programming (XP), OpenUP, and Scrum. There is creation, communication, and consumption of knowledge during (agile) software development [2]. For the success of an agile project, it is crucial that such knowledge be managed effectively. In doing so, an appropriate selection and use of certain tools and technologies can be helpful. In the past few years, there has been a proliferation of Social Web Applications, such as Wiki [3]. Indeed, a number of noteworthy uses of Wiki in software engineering have been reported [4]. However, these studies are largely independent of any software development methodology, and are centered mostly on collaboration. The primary reasons for selecting Wiki for agile software development include the following: (1) the deployment of agile methodologies, especially XP and Scrum, with teams that are increasingly geographically-dispersed, (2) the involvement in sustainable software development by organizations with basic infrastructure and modest budgets for resources, and (3) the need of inexpensive, mature, and widely-available tools for supporting iterative development, by almost anybody, at anytime, anywhere, using almost any device. The purpose of this research is to provide a framework for integrating Wiki for the purpose of facilitating the dynamics of knowledge during agile software development.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121260814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measures for collaboration have shown that collaboration covers many external relationships. The index of extra-organizational collaboration is related to internal IT use for business tasks as well as to technologies for internal and extra-organizational collaboration. Internal IT does not substitute external collaboration or vice versa. We find that among the SMEs there is a sufficient share of companies ready for IT applications for the creation and configuration of virtual enterprises. However, there are still \"laggers\" among the SMEs. Regional agencies continue to have a task in modernization among the SMEs. Further research should investigate the idea of simultaneous co-development as this influences how SMEs should be addressed by development agencies.","PeriodicalId":256633,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130314757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
