The system has a ring shape and contains a three-axis accelerometer, microcontroller and memory unit. Three-axis acceleration data is sampled at 30Hz and stored in 256Mbit flash memory. The system is able to run along one day using single 1000mAh capacity 3V battery. The data collected is transferred to computer using USB interface to convert it to qualitative value. One of the most important advantage of the system is its low-cost. Prototype of the system is developed up to now and patient test will be performed soon.","PeriodicalId":256154,"journal":{"name":"2012 20th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126968865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, translation of these documents requires competent historians which is not a feasible method in terms of time and cost. Thus, automatic translation of these documents are required. In this paper, preprocessing steps of accessing the Ottoman manuscripts with a word based search engine is studied. These preprocessing steps are binarization and line segmentation of digitalized documents. The traditional line segmentation methods applied to printed documents do not yield to satisfactory results for historical and handwritten documents. Due to this fact, more complex line segmentation techniques must be used. In this study, we developed a projection profile based method for line segmentation and local binarization is used. The experiments are conducted on a 120 page Ottoman archive and the results show that the proposed system is successful.","PeriodicalId":256154,"journal":{"name":"2012 20th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130211465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, energy detection model for noncooperative spectrum sensing is investigated. On the other hand, the analysis is implemented by segmented Chirp z transform. In this study Chirp z transform based spectrum sensing is proposed for the increase of dispersed spectrum utilization and in this context firstly used in literature. Also with the system model, using inverse fast Fourier transform in transmitter and Chirp z transform in receiver rather than fast Fourier transform, the computational complexity and the processing time are reduced, and performance increase is observed for high signal to noise ratio values.","PeriodicalId":256154,"journal":{"name":"2012 20th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU)","volume":"37 22","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133008116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IR scene generators obtained by OpenGL library are used in the applications where performance is critical. Modeling atmospheric effects in the IR band using OpenGL's fog model approach is found in the literature. However, the related fog model needs parameters that are independent of the range. In this paper, a novel model that is developed by using the least squares estimation for the both range and wavelength dependent atmospheric transmittance and atmospheric path radiance is proposed and the related model parameters are transformed to usable equivalent parameters for OpenGL platform. It is demonstrated with the simulations that the proposed model has an error less than 5%.","PeriodicalId":256154,"journal":{"name":"2012 20th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131316264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A transmission frame is divided into two subframes. Base and Relay Stations transmit in the first and second subframe respectively. Resources are divided into subchannels and time slot and allocated to users in a max-min fair manner. Contrary to an Amplify and Forward assumption in the literature, we assume Decode and Forward relays and hence subchannel duration also becomes an optimization parameter. The problem is formulated and solved as a linear programming problem. A heuristic algorithm is also proposed. Simulation results prove that Decode and Forward relaying provides significant performance improvement with respect to Amplify and Forward relaying.","PeriodicalId":256154,"journal":{"name":"2012 20th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123298258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In resonance based signal decomposition, analyzed signal can be expressed as the sum of a `high-resonance' and `low-resonance component'. A high-resonance component can be thought as a signal consisting of sustained oscillations and a low-resonance component can be thought as a signal consisting of non-oscillatory transients. The morphology of neuronal spikes has transient character and neuronal spikes can be thought as low-resonance component in resonance-based signal decomposition. In this study a novel algorithm for detecting extracellular spikes using resonance based signal decomposition with an adaptive amplitude threshold is proposed. The proposed algorithm is tested on synthetic data and compared with the conventional threshold selection method. The results show that proposed method outperforms traditional amplitude thresholding method.","PeriodicalId":256154,"journal":{"name":"2012 20th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121181426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
