Este es el único ramal en actividad regular en Chile, subvencionado por el Estado, debido al importante rol social que presta como facilitador de la vida a personas y localidades que, de otra manera, quedarían en la más absoluta inconexión. En este estudio abordamos las declaradas motivaciones que impulsaron su construcción, las empresas involucradas y los problemas inherentes derivados de su ejecución, con la intención de dilucidar la efectiva motivación de construir una obra de esta envergadura justo en el momento en que el puerto fluvial perdía su condición de mayor, y estimar la cuantía de la real inversión que ella demandó al erario nacional. \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000In 2015, the Talca-Constitucion train branch line turned a hundred years, which allowed it to become a well-known Historical National Monument. This is the only train branch line with regular activity in Chile, which is subsidized by the Chilean state due to the important social role that it plays as a facilitator for locals and rural communities. Otherwise, they will be left out with no transportation. This study aims at describing the reasons for building it, the enterprises involved and the consequent issues. The rationale lays on finding out the reasons for building such a magnificent piece of work since it was built when the river port had lost its relevance. Para llevar a cabo este objetivo, después de un largo apartado metodológico, se analizará sumariamente la acción de gobierno de Francisco Fernández de la Cueva, IV duque de Alburquerque, que ejerció en sucesión el cargo de virrey de Nueva España (1653-1660) y de Sicilia (1667-1670). De hecho, es claro que el caso de estudio propuesto no puede ser profundizado exhaustivamente en este artículo y servirá solamente para poner a la luz un hecho demasiadas veces olvidados por los historiadores: en las dos periferias imperiales, bajo la dominación de los Habsburgo de España, es posible identificar las mismas dinámicas sociales, políticas e institucionales. \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000Basing on the process of historiographical revision, introduced by the Global History, this lecture is going to offer a speculation on the scientific and methodological opportunity of a direct comparison between Italian domains and Indian territories of the catholic Monarchy. To reach this goal, after a long methodological apparatus, we will briefly examine the governmental actions of Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva, IV, the Duke of Alburquerque, who held the office of the viceroy of New Spain (1653-1660) and of Sicily (1667-1670). Sus objetivos son estudiar a los actores que estuvieron públicamente a favor de los pescadores y sus declaraciones; explicar la actuación de las autoridades reacias a mantener la caleta en su sitio original; comprender la erradicación de los pescadores artesanales porteños como parte de la modernización y del control de as costas chilenas de aquella época. La fuente primaria que sustenta este estudio es el periódico El Mercurio de Valparaíso, medio que realizó una campaña explícita a favor de los intereses de los pescadores de Caleta Jaime. Pese a la intensa campaña desplegada por El Mercurio y a la defensa pública de algunas utoridades, la modernización y apropiación fiscal de un espacio litoral tan central era inevitable. \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000This study focuses on the discussion about the future of Caleta Jaime between 1915 and 1916, when there were built Valparaíso Puerto Barón train station. The main objectives are to show the actors that supported fishermen’s demands and analyze their speeches, explain the performance of reluctant authorities to keep the cove on its original site, base why fishermen suffered unavoidable enclosure and show social control like an inherent aspect to chilean coast in mid 1910s. Our primary source is the journal El Mercurio de Valparaíso, which made an explicit campaign in favor of Jaime fishermen’s interest. The main idea is that some projects were approved to enclose and extinguish Caleta Jaime, despite releases of El Mercurio and public defense made by some state authorities and parliamentarians. Estas tres preguntas apuntan a ser respondidas mediante un estudio de historia urbana que aborda prioritariamente dimensiones de la política y la arquitectura, indagando la trayectoria inicial de una población erigida por el Estado de Chile. \u0000ABSTRACT \u0000This article will question for the San Luis poblacion, built in Santiago by the Superior Council of Labor Rooms during the first half of the decade of the 1920s. What were the main characteristics of architectural and urban design of these houses and these environment? How that entrepreneurship can become a vehicle for understanding the representations of the institution with respect to the hygienic housing? What was the sector of the city that was inserted?
