They also suffer from the problem that the time consumed in sequential access to array elements heavily depends on the dimension along which the elements are accessed. This problem would be alleviated by dividing the whole array into the set of the same sized smaller subarrays called \"chunks\". These chunks are also sparse and they are compressed. However these compressed chunks are usually arranged in the predetermined order of the dimensions. This would produce further dimension dependency in accessing array elements. Assogna","doi":"10.1109/DEXA.2002.1045895","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/DEXA.2002.1045895","url":null,"abstract":"The paper presents an experiment in knowledge management, called Dreaming Knowledge Base, that is built upon the analogy between the self-organizing functions of knowledge performed by dreams, and the structuring of an organizational KB. The requirements in terms of knowledge, imposed by the context on a complex social organization, are analyzed, concluding that the structure of knowledge is a complex fractal-like system in itself. Then the analogy of genetics and memetics is considered, introducing the concept of the holomeme, that is the holonic representation of memes and of their groupings in our minds, and their role in the structuring of knowledge. A person's knowledge evolves partly during daytime under the control of conscience, and even more during sleep, in the dreaming process: the extended connections between holomemes are created mostly unconsciously, with self-organizing processes. The experiment consists in exploring the use of automatic processes that create and reinforce extended connections between documents and holomemes (structured in an ontology), during the \"dream time\" of a Knowledge Base that follows a circadian cycle. The issue that is being addressed is that of introducing chaotic behaviors in the dream-like phase. The design is a multi-agent implementation of the holonic manufacturing system architecture PROSA. The dispatching control system combines two main subsystems: a routing dispatcher and a resource dispatcher. The routing dispatcher offers routing flexibility by utilising the subnet capability concept together with ant-based route exploration, while the resource dispatcher brings the operation flexibility offered by the resources. Combination of the routing dispatcher and the resource dispatcher offers more flexibility to control the internal logistics of manufacturing systems. Both projects focus on the dynamic vision of knowledge management as a way to enact communities and to enable innovation and new ideas generation. Technical and organisational sides of knowledge management are considered. The paradigm underlying XFolders is the well known, and widely adopted, internal office circulation envelope. We show how XFolders combines the simplicity of this metaphor with the power and the benefits of today's networked computers, in terms of speed, distance bridging and support. This imposes significant demand on knowledge maintained by the wireless network about itself (system meta-data). Maintaining a repository of wireless meta-data in the way that location databases are maintained is not sufficient to support adaptable application interoperability. The availability/freshness/precision requirements for the system meta-data are different from the requirements for location data and involve more complex monitoring queries. In this paper we examine the problem of implementing and maintaining a wireless interoperable infrastructure with a comprehensive meta-data repository-a pervasive catalog system. The fundamental differences between holons and agents are addressed and the main challenges of the HE model implementation briefly stated, as they are commonly addressed by several collaborative research consortia. The system has been developed to provide intuitive use by a user community of project managers, design consultants and contractors. The system differs from traditional hosted extranet services in that it has been developed specifically to address the complex issues of rapid programme management. It provides long term confidence to the bank by guaranteeing their ownership of the system and data. The system also retains the look and feel of bank systems to give clear brand identity.
