We use as a case example the Center for Gender in Global Context (GenCen) at Michigan State University to explore the opportunities and limitations of feminist administrators leading campus movements challenging sexist, racist and heteronormative cultures at a university in crisis. We aim to contribute to the emerging literature on gendered organisations and feminist leadership to place it into dialogue with the everyday world of leadership and practices of an organisation committed to feminist principles and social justice.","PeriodicalId":253858,"journal":{"name":"Psychology of Women and Equalities Section Review","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125389049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Supporting mothers as psychology trainees and early career psychologists in academia may aid in generating innovative solutions to problems in the field. Accordingly, the Families in Psychology Project (FIPP) was developed as a grassroots network to lead the field of psychology in supporting trainees and early career professionals to integrate personal and professional identities. This leadership is particularly needed at this time, when women are the majority of students matriculating from psychology graduate training programmes and when the demographic make-up of the psychological workforce is more diverse than ever before. The current commentary reviews literature to provide a rationale for why the FIPP is necessary, further describes the FIPP, and identifies specific ways by which the FIPP supports trainees and early career professionals who are parents.","PeriodicalId":253858,"journal":{"name":"Psychology of Women and Equalities Section Review","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123189259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to her own research, for the last two years she has been working with Professor Adele Jones on a project to prevent domestic violence in the Caribbean. None in Three, funded by the EU, takes its name from the statistic that one in three women and girls will experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetime. At the centre of the several strands of work being undertaken is a prosocial computer game created to challenge attitudes among the young that contribute to violent behaviours in later life and seeking also to generate awareness and empathy in respect of domestic violence. This innovative approach, alongside a wide-ranging public engagement strategy, has won Jones and her team grants totalling £4.6 million (Arts and Humanities Research Council funded) to establish the Ni3 Research Centre and to expand the work to the UK, India, China, Jamaica and Uganda.","PeriodicalId":253858,"journal":{"name":"Psychology of Women and Equalities Section Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131236322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here I offer a critical analysis to dissect how concepts of leadership contribute to the reproduction of systems of power within the world of work, focusing specifically on the field of psychology. I do this from the perspective of a psychology graduate navigating employment and career progression in the context of the UK. In doing so, I aim to show how success and leadership are closely married to economically productive work. I describe how this manifested in career opportunities available to me and my peers during university, shedding light on how students from some degrees and disciplines end up being more ‘employable’ than others. The implications of this culture on social change and human wellbeing are discussed, and it is argued that radical changes in understandings of leadership are needed in psychology to resist the profit-oriented working world.","PeriodicalId":253858,"journal":{"name":"Psychology of Women and Equalities Section Review","volume":"193 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114659998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
