It goes without saying that increasing the number of electrodes and channels of the systems does help the spatial revolution, however, which could also increase the the power consumption and the output data rate. This paper mainly focuses on the methods which are able to decrease the data transfer rate as well as the power consumption. In order to transfer the neural signals out of human body, the data converters are tended to be used to decrease the power consumption.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128446482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals to identify emotions has received extensive attention and gets relatively satisfying results, while it is still a problem that the ability to identify negative emotions was limited which plays an important role in the practical application. In addition, negative emotions were rarely taken out as a major emotional state to study. Therefore, in this paper, 4 peripheral nervous system signals were collected to assist the EEG signals to improve the negative emotion recognition rate and, unlike the previous studies based on one information fusion method alone, proposed a novel information fusion method, termed as FWBP, which consists of a weighted decision fusion, a feature fusion and a BP network to achieve the information fusion of 5 physiological signals. To do this, the positive, neutral and negative emotions of 12 subjects were evoked by emotional videos, and EEG, electrodermal activity (EDA), electrocardiogram (ECG), photoplethysmogram (PPG) and respiration (RSP) were recorded simultaneously. We constructed a information fusion method FWBP. This method improved the mean accuracy by about 6% compared to central nervous system model (CNSM) which used EEG signals alone. More importantly, compared with the CNSM, the negative emotions recognition rate in this method was increased by about 10%. Furthermore, this method also proved that the identification results from multiple information fusion methods are input into BP neural network for the second fusion and classification is able to achieve complementary advantages and exhibit a better performance in emotion recognition.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125128977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Heart disease, such as coronary heart disease, arrhythmia Dilated cardiomyopathy, and congenital heart disease, caused a large number of deaths in this world. We decided to analyze the possible causes of a specific type of heart disease - coronary artery disease (CAD). In this project, we managed to uncover relations between human cell types and CAD, based on relations across genes and cell types of humans and mice that we discovered by applying techniques including principal component analysis (PCA), K-nearest-neighbor (KNN) analysis and a very powerful R package tool - Seurat. We concluded that CAD has a significant connection with macrophages and Fibroblasts, which means that we can recognize the disease conditions of CAD patients by recognizing the status of macrophages and fibroblasts.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128937099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Older players are more susceptible to rotator cuff injuries than young individuals. Multiple factors including the internal impingement and abnormal kinematics tend to induce rotator cuff injuries. Among the four rotator cuff muscles, supraspinatus is the most frequently injured. Pathology of the rotator cuff injury may be either mild inflammation or partial to full thickness tear. The overhead athletes’ performance in sports is largely decreased when suffering from rotator cuff tears. It is important to conduct early recognition and treatment to help athletes return to sports safely. Significant complications, prolonged disability, and further injuries are easily to occur when failing to adopt a proper management strategy. Both the non-surgical and surgical treatment requires proper rehabilitation protocols based on the patients’ conditions. In this paper, we will discuss the injury mechanics in various sports, clinical evaluation, treatment principles, and rehabilitation of rotator cuff injuries.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121565573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a mobile phone app for sleep monitoring, which connects with our custom designed wearable sleep monitoring device via Baidu Internet of Things (IoT) Hub, displays sleeping data and charts in real time, and stores these data in a lightweight SQLite database for historical review. The app was designed on Android Studio platform, and the bar charts and the waveforms were realized by using MPAndroidChart and custom View, respectively. Due to the easy accessibility of the IoT Hub, the app can easily access and display the data from different devices through object access of the IoT Hub. When tested on Android smartphones, the app ran smoothly and it was easy to operate. We think this app is useful for daily sleep monitoring in home health care environment.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115383778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, sleep monitoring equipment in hospital is usually large, expensive, and difficult to operate, which is not suitable for everyday monitoring of sleep quality in home environment. Therefore, we developed a wristwatch-type sleep monitoring device which is small, low-cost and easy to operate. The device is based on the microcontroller STM32F103C8T6, using the accelerometer MPU6050 to collect body motion signals and the integrated photosensor MAX30102 to collect heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), and the collected data are real-time displayed on a mini OLED screen. On the other hand, the collected signals of pulse wave, SpO2 and body motion are transmitted to Baidu Internet of Things (IoT) Hub and can be accessed by smartphones and computers that connected to it. On the smartphone, an app was developed to access the data and present them in comprehensible charts for users. On the computer, a program was developed to access the data, analyze the sleep stage and assess the sleep quality. After testing, the system ran well. The wristwatch-type device successfully collected signals in real time and transmitted them to Baidu IoT Hub. The smartphone and the computer successfully accessed these data via Baidu IoT Hub for further analysis such as presenting in charts and assessing the sleep quality. The wristwatch device is small and light, easy to carry around, and the user can observe his/her own sleep data anytime anywhere through smartphones or computers. We think it is especially useful for people to monitor their sleep qualities in home environment.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126695995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To increase this rate, researchers around the globe are developing an artificial womb (AW), a safe environment that mimics the natural uterus, allowing the fetus to develop further. To successfully transfer the fetus from the natural uterus to the AW - while avoiding the respiratory reflex and thus neonatal transition - it is important that no air enters the lungs. To improve safety and minimize animal testing, the transfer procedure is first tested and trained using a fetal manikin simulation. To this end, the intent of this study was to perform a literature analysis to understand how the breathing reflex of a premature infant can be simulated in a fetal manikin. This study resulted in an overview of triggers known to initiate the respiration at birth and ways to detect these triggers, leading to a proposal for an electromechanical system. This proposal was incorporated into a realistic-looking prototype, which was subsequently evaluated with medical end users.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121396670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As one of the most severe complications of diabetes, DR is the main cause of vision loss in the general working population and the elderly worldwide. Emerging evidence has revealed that DR is resulted from the dysregulation of the retinal neurovascular unit (NVU), indicating that microvascular abnormalities together with neurodegeneration or neuropathy both contribute to the development of retinopathy. Meanwhile, numerous investigations on non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) broaden our pathogenic understanding of DR. NcRNAs are a class of RNAs that generally do not encode the protein but participate in various important biological activities such as gene expression and translational regulation. Notably, a great number of studies have identified that ncRNAs get involved in the pathogenesis of DR through interaction with NVU, and this is achieved by elaborately regulating the pathophysiological signaling pathways and biochemical molecules within or between cells of NVU. Here, we discussed the relationship between ncRNAs and NVU in DR progression, which may provide novel therapeutic strategies for DR.","PeriodicalId":253757,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2021 8th International Conference on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Engineering","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128195796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main reasons for these is the components that are being used are expensive and require precise instrumentation, research and development. This paper attempts to mitigate that problem by proposing a novel way to rapidly develop a portable ventilator that uses common 3D printing technology and off-the-shelf components. This turbine and valve-based ventilator feature most of the modes that are commonly used by healthcare professionals. A unique servo-based pressure release mechanism has been designed that makes the system around 36 times more efficient than solenoid-based systems. Reliability and efficiency have been increased further through the use of a novel positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) valve that does not contain any electromechanical component. Effective algorithms such as feed-forward and proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers were used alongside the unique ‘Sensor data filtration methodology’. The system also provides an interactive graphical user interface (GUI) via an android application that can be installed on any readily found tabs while the firmware manages the breathing detection algorithm using a flow meter. This modular and portable ventilator also features a swappable battery and holds the ability to run on solar power. This energy-efficient and low noise system can run for 5 to 6 hours at a stretch without needing to be connected with the main's supply.
