To confirm the electrochemical metallic ion migration (ECM) sensitivity with and without photo solder resist (PSR) ink-coated printed circuit board (PCB), comb patterned test vehicles were prepared by the hot air reflow soldering process in nitrogen atmosphere, and the SAC305 solder paste was printed on the conductor of the ECM test PCB. The ECM test was conducted under high temperature and high humidity conditions of 85℃ and 85% RH, respectively. As a result of measuring the void content of the 2012 chip resistor, the average void content of the OSP substrate was higher than that of the ENIG substrate. The thermal shock test (TST) indicated that the degradation rate of the OSP substrate was higher than that of the ENIG substrate. Microstructure analysis showed that the OSP substrate had more crack propagation and thicker intermetallic compound (IMC) thickness than the ENIG substrate. The ECM test revealed that the substrate with PSR-coated PCB coupon generated more dendrites than that without PSR-coated coupon. Because the PSR coated substrate decreased the moisture absorption into the substrate, moredendritesweredeterminedtobe generated.","PeriodicalId":253691,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Welding and Joining","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127500408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The key metallurgical factors of solidification cracking have been identified as the formation of highly misoriented solidification grain boundaries (low level of epitaxial growth behavior) at the fusion zone that affects the repulsive force between two adjacent dendrites and dendrite coalescence undercooling at the terminal stage of weld solidification. In particular, under extremely low heat input and ultra-high-speed laser beam scan conditions (welding speed: 1,000 mm/s, heat input: 2 J/mm, and energy density: 65 J/mm2), an effective fusion zone could be achieved within a single directionally solidified grain of CM247LC alloy owing to the characteristics of single-mode fiber laser. The fusion zone successfully showed a 99.9% of epitaxial growth achievement ratio (that is, low fraction of highly misoriented solidification grain boundaries at the fusion zone) without solidification cracking. Based on these results on CM247LC alloy, solidification crack-free welds could be successfully achieved using quadruple-pass and square-type weld geometries.","PeriodicalId":253691,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Welding and Joining","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128823376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is limited research on welding distortion in HDPE welded structures. This study investigates the deformation behavior of HDPE fillet-welded specimens, focusing on global out-of-plane distortions such as angular and bowing distortions. Experimental analysis, conducted using an optical 3D scanner, reveals similarities between the observed deformation patterns in HDPE fillet-welded specimens and those commonly found in other fillet-welded structures. Angular and bowing distortion modes are primarily observed, resulting from the contraction forces that occur during the cooling process after the melting and solidification of the HDPE welding rod. Additionally, the influence of specimen thickness on deformations is examined. This research contributes valuable knowledge about welding distortions in HDPE, providing directions for optimization of welding processes and the enhancement of structural performance in HDPE welded structures.","PeriodicalId":253691,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Welding and Joining","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121078069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, here we focus on modifying the bonding process and composition of solder to enhance mechanical and thermal properties. This study experimentally investigated the mechanism of how laser-assisted bonding (LAB) form a small size of initial intermetallic compounds (IMC), and 0.2 wt% Cr element was added to Sn-0.7Cu eutectic solder to suppress the IMC growth. As a result, Sn-0.7Cu and Sn-0.7Cu-0.2Cr initial grain refinement was achieved by LAB. Isothermal aging was conducted to observe the mechanical and thermal properties depending on the IMC growth under 100, 125, 150 ℃ respectively. Sn-0.7Cu-0.2Cr tended to inhibit the growth of IMC at solder matrix and interface compared to Sn-0.7Cu throughout all aging temperature and time. The shear test was proceeded and Sn-0.7Cu-0.2Cr shear force was achieved 18% higher than Sn-0.7Cu. LNG is an intermediate energy source and its use increases continuously because of its established infrastructure. LNG temperature is -165°C and requires low temperature toughness of tank material. High manganese austenitic steel has similar mechanical properties to cryogenic material for LNG listed in IGC and IGF code. High manganese austenitic steel easily satisfies the low temperature toughness required at cryogenic temperature and shows superior performance in yield strength, tensile strength and elongation, compared to existing materials in IGC and IGF code.In this study, the thickness ratio is reviewed while loading the same LNG fuel. Based on the thickness ratio, the thickness for 9%Ni steel, STS304 and Al5083 is calculated for two standard thickness of 10 mm and 20 mm for the high manganese austenitic steel. 9%Ni steel, STS304, Al5083 and high manganese austenitic steel are compared and reviewed from the viewpoint of the required time for initial surface cracks to grow into through-thickness cracks and the size of through-thickness cracks under the same amount of LNG fuel. Complex and load-optimized geometries can be produced with high dimensional accuracy. However, the die-cast part has a high hydrogen content, which affects its weldability. In this study, laser welding with a combination of dual-beam and laser-beam oscillation was investigated, and the effect of welding factors on the penetration depth and pore formation were evaluated based on analysis of variance. The power distribution between the core and ring, the welding speed, oscillation width, and frequency were selected as the factors. All produced samples were analyzed based on their cross-sectional and X-ray images. The core power significantly influenced the penetration depth, and the oscillation effect was negligible for penetration depth but not for pore distribution. This study investigated the changes in bead shape and metal transfer mode caused by the molten-pool behavior. We conducted gas metal arc welding with various welding positions. Images from high-speed camera and signals from current and voltage sensors were used to determine the differences with welding positions. Bead shapes were quantified through transverse cross-sectional bead images and image processing. Molten-pool images from the camera were analyzed through the molten-pool length and distance from the wire position. These were used to explain the differences between transverse and longitudinal cross-sectional bead images with welding positions. Changes in metal transfer based on current and voltage signals were investigated.
