In a combined optimization the minimization of the costs for providing reserve aid for covering transmission losses are presented as well as several parameters of power system operation, which represent the reliability and quality of the system like frequency control, voltage control or transmission capacity. Since the objectives compete, a Pareto-based evolution strategy was selected, in order to solve this multi-criteria optimization problem. Often, after rotor overcurrent protection has functioned following a sharp increase of excitation current, 90% of the rotor's thermal capacity is still unused. A computationally reliable and fast method has been devised for assessing rotor temperature and its rate of change by monitoring each unit's rotor current and voltage. These shifts aim at the improvement of the system harmonic voltage performance. The method is based on the calculations of poles, zeros and their sensitivities to changes in system parameters. These calculations are carried out in the s-domain using the nodal admittance matrix Y(s) and its derivative with respect to the complex frequency s. A comparison is made between the proposed method and a recent one based on descriptor system approach. Yan","doi":"10.1109/PESW.2001.917067","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/PESW.2001.917067","url":null,"abstract":"Along with the implementation of locational marginal pricing (LMP), most, if not all, of the wholesale power markets have developed some form of financial instrument for market participants to hedge against the price risk of transmission congestion. For example, the PJM market has developed such a financial instrument called financial transmission right (FTR). In PJM, FTR is a financial contract that entitles the holder to a stream of revenues (or charges) based on the transmission reservation level and hourly LMP differences across the specific transmission path. Hence, FTR can be used to hedge against congestion charges. PJM determines the total amount of FTRs that can be granted to transmission customers based on results from a simultaneous feasibility test. This is to ensure that the energy market will be revenue adequate. Since a local serving entity is granted FTRs based on its peak load, it may have to give back FTRs due to too many customers switching to new suppliers. On the other hand, a host utility, as a provider of last resort, may suddenly find itself with insufficient FTRs to serve additional loads due to FTR oversubscription, as a result of its obligation to reinstate former retail customers. FTR is financially binding, because FTR is imbedded in the accounting system for the duration of the transmission service contract to provide a stream of revenues or charges. The first course in power engineering has an important role to play in attracting good students to power engineering. The question is what form should this class take? A power systems approach, a power electronics approach and an energy conversion approach are possibilities. This paper makes the point that the foundation of power engineering is energy conversion and that power faculty need to find ways to make this class more interesting, rather than gravitating towards subject material that may be more \"trendy\" but less fundamental and valuable. Two areas that students universally find interesting are electric vehicles and alternate energy systems based on a renewable energy supply like wind. This paper goes into some of the details of an energy conversion class taught at Clarkson University. This includes the use of external speakers in the power area who bring an industrial perspective, class design problems relating to alternate energy and the space program, and field trips to show the class the equipment involved. Some enrolment data of the power program are also included. This derivation uses the state space model of a fixed capacitor-thyristor controlled reactor (FC-TCR) circuit. It is assumed that the FC-TCR circuit is supplied by a constant AC current source. The fundamental TCSC characteristics are then derived by the step-by-step solution of state equation. In this derivation we present two methods-one assuming that the TCR reactor has infinite Q-factor and the other assuming that it has finite Q-factor. Three different stator configurations, single-phasing mode of operation, Steinmetz connection I, and Steinmetz connection II, are respectively employed. An approach based on three-phase induction-machine model is employed to derive dynamic equations of the studied SEIG. Both minimum and maximum values of the single excitation capacitance required for the studied SEIG under three configurations are obtained and compared.
