As we test a website, we may discover more about its structure and behaviour. This paper proposes a framework for collection of testability measures during the automated testing process (termed ‘in-testing’ measure collection). The measures gathered in this way can take account of dynamic and content driven aspects of web applications, such as form structure, client-side scripting and server-side code. Their goal is to capture measurements related to on-going testing activity, indicating where additional testing can best lead to higher overall coverage. They denote a form of ‘web testability’ measures. The paper reports on the implementation of a prototype Web Application Testing Tool, WATT, illustrating the in-testing measure collection approach on 34 forms taken from 14 real world web applications.","PeriodicalId":253440,"journal":{"name":"2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Web Systems Evolution","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124271788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, this involves the use of clustering algorithms to generate behavior-based groupings, followed by profile-based analyses. One weakness of this approach is that resulting groups are often based on aspects of user behavior not relevant for the revision under study. A second weakness is that profiles may be difficult to interpret. To address these weaknesses we employ 1) a semi-supervised clustering algorithm seeded with evaluator-selected, representative sessions; 2) Time Series Analysis - Selected Episode Graphs (TSA-SEGs), annotated graphical representations of “interesting” aspects of behavior, based on episodes (sequences of requests) and time windows selected by the evaluator. Our approach compared favorably with a leading approach, H-UNC and analysis of profiles created from the resultant clusters, on a case study of an important revision to a biological database site (www.cryptodb.org).","PeriodicalId":253440,"journal":{"name":"2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Web Systems Evolution","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122098628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, one challenge involving service maintenance entails identifying changes and synchronizing those changes with the dependent services. For instance, a service provider may support multiple versions of the same service, and these versions are dependent on common artifacts such as data types, operation functions, and security policies. Consequently, it is necessary to develop automatic or semi-automatic service version synchronization techniques in order to reduce the burden involved in the manual creation and maintenance of services. In this paper, we present a service dependency model for the synchronization of multiple service versions by relating the base service model with the dependent service versions to construct a service dependency graph and dependency matrices. Additionally, we analyze service changes on the dependency matrices and perform synchronization based on the indicated change dependency. Finally, the related synchronization process and architecture are also introduced.","PeriodicalId":253440,"journal":{"name":"2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Web Systems Evolution","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133357392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Software visualization tools are a great help as they can sum up large quantities of data in dense, meaningful pictures. Traditionally such tools come in the form of desktop applications. Modern web frameworks are about to change this status quo, as building software visualization tools as web applications can help in making them available to a larger audience in a collaborative setting. Such a migration comes with a number of promises, perils and technical implications that have to be taken into account before starting any migration process. In this paper we share our experiences in porting two such tools to the web and discuss the promises and perils that go hand in hand with such an endeavour.","PeriodicalId":253440,"journal":{"name":"2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Web Systems Evolution","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115661135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When the device needs to keep its users up-to-date of its internal state, the Web application has to use an event publication solution. Several works have recently been conducted in order to evaluate the trade-offs of various Web-based event notification solutions. In this paper, we propose to evaluate the feasibility of event notification in embedded Web applications. We conduct a large set of experiments in order to compare various push and pull based approaches for embedded systems. We show that a push-based approach can be very efficient in most situations, both in terms of client consistency and of scalability.","PeriodicalId":253440,"journal":{"name":"2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Web Systems Evolution","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123065584","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, BPEL processes must be able to detect web service failure and performance degradation resulting in the violation of service-level agreements. Automated diagnosis and repair are equally important. However, BPEL lacks constructs for web service monitoring and runtime adaptability, which are pre-requisites for diagnosis and repair. We present a solution for transparent runtime monitoring, as well as automated performance degradation detection, diagnosis, and repair for BPEL processes. Our solution uses lightweight monitoring techniques, supports customizable diagnosis and repair strategies, and is compatible with any standards-compliant BPEL engine.","PeriodicalId":253440,"journal":{"name":"2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Web Systems Evolution","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133536375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Web Service testing has received significant attention in both functional and non-functional aspects. Robustness has been considered as a crucial feature of Web Service. How to test whether the service is robust enough under its evolution has become a hard problem. OWL-S (Web Ontology Language for Services) is an ontology-based semantic specification of services I/O and workflows. In this paper, we present a novel approach to generate robustness test data based on the ontology specified in OWL-S. Our approach firstly analyzes the OWL-S (and related OWL specifications) to extract the ontology definitions associated with I/O parameters of SUT (Service Under Test). It then derives the semantic constraints on class, property, and parameter dependency from such ontology definitions. At last, it generates robustness test data by applying data mutation operators based on such constraints. We choose a flight ticket selling service in the travel domain as a case study. The preliminary results show that our approach is feasible and effective.","PeriodicalId":253440,"journal":{"name":"2009 11th IEEE International Symposium on Web Systems Evolution","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130269980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
