It also offers unique features such as quadratic variation of current with gate voltage, and problems, such as limitations in voltage and poor pinchoff characteristics. System for recording ECoG signals in brain, recording in vivo gastric myoelectric activities in stomach, sensing in vivo strain variations in bladder, and detecting reflux episodes in esophagus have been demonstrated. These systems consist of passive transducers for physiological signal transduction and an active transceiver for signal relay and recording. The real-time in vivo physiological signal acquisition and related neuro-/gastro-stimulation form a closed loop between the human body and control electronics. Continuous feedback mechanisms that could be implemented in the closed loop provide treatment strategies for optimization to reach a desired comfort level for individual patient. The wireless systems quantitatively document symptoms and associated physiological signals over a long term while allowing the patients to resume regular daily activities. This will enable more precise diagnosis and prognosis of diseases for the caregivers.","PeriodicalId":253374,"journal":{"name":"WAMICON 2011 Conference Proceedings","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126822886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typical designs include an 8-element 8–16 GHz SiGe phased array receiver, a 16-element 30–50 GHz SiGe transmit phased array, a miniature (< 3mm2) and low power (<100 mW) CMOS phased array receiver at 24 GHz, and a 4-element SiGe/CMOS Tx/Rx phased array at 34–38 GHz with 5-bit amplitude and phase control, a 2-antenna 4-simultaneous beam phased array chip at 15 GHz. Also, a miniature 8×8 Butler Matrix with < 3 dB loss in 0.13 um CMOS has been developed for multibeam applications. Based on the interdigital hairpin finger structure, three adjacent folded fingers are added at both sides for tri-band notched control. With this symmetrical structure, each notched band can be controlled by its corresponding pair of folded fingers independently. Without changing other rejected bands, by just changing the parameters of the corresponding pair of fingers, the specified notched band can be adjusted easily. To demonstrate our novel structure, a tri-band notched UWB bandpass filter is designed, fabricated and tested for harmonic control application. At rejected bands 6.42 GHz, 10.7 GHz and 14.98 GHz, the measured insertion loss is 15.7 dB, 31.7 dB and 30.1 dB, respectively. Simulated results are found in good agreement with measured results. The compact size of our proposed filter is 5.8 mm × 19.8 mm.","PeriodicalId":253374,"journal":{"name":"WAMICON 2011 Conference Proceedings","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115260893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recognizing that communication systems are successful only if they are profitable, value propositions that have been realized along the evolution of adopted wireless signals are reviewed. As the market now desires gigabit data rates while mobile, physical principles are used to extend this historical trend to evaluate options for implementation and their inherent costs so that coming value propositions can be fairly evaluated.","PeriodicalId":253374,"journal":{"name":"WAMICON 2011 Conference Proceedings","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128088572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this amplifier, second harmonic and fourth harmonic are rejected by the bias circuit, while third harmonic is controlled by a UWB bandpass notched filter and fifth harmonic is tuned by a traditional λ/4 transmission line at 10.7 GHz. By applying this novel filter, third harmonic can be suppressed while for fundamental frequency, the filter works as a 50-Ohm transmission line with little insertion loss. With the interdigital hairpin line structure of the filter, the blocking capacitor is not needed in the load matching network. Compared with the conventional λ/4 transmission line at third harmonic, the size of this amplifier circuit is reduced. The measured PAE is 61.6% with 38.8 dBm output power at 2.14 GHz. A bare-die approach is used to eliminate package parasitics in conjunction with an in-house transistor model that enables investigation of the transistor intrinsic waveforms. With this as a basis, harmonic source-pull/load-pull simulations have been used to design and implement two state-of-the-art highly efficient harmonically tuned PAs. For the 3.5-GHz PA, large-signal measurement results show a PAE of 80%, a power gain of 15.5 dB, and an output power of 7 W, while for the 5.5-GHz PA, 5.6 W output power, 12.5 dB power gain, and 70% PAE are achieved.","PeriodicalId":253374,"journal":{"name":"WAMICON 2011 Conference Proceedings","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133082498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
