The goals are better performance metrics of efficiency and acceptable satisfaction of riders. To solve the problem effectively, an objective function that compromises the benefits and losses of dynamic ridesharing service is proposed. The Polar Coordinates based Ride-Matching strategy (PCRM) that can adapt to the satisfaction of riders on board is also addressed. In the experiment, large scale data sets from New York City (NYC) are applied. We do a case study to identify the best set of parameters of the dynamic ridesharing service with a training set of 135,252 trip requests. In addition, we also use a testing set containing 427,799 trip requests and two state-of-the-art approaches as baselines to estimate the effectiveness of our method. The experimental results show that on average 38% of traveling distance can be saved, nearly 100% of passengers can be served and each rider only spends an additional 3.8 minutes in ridesharing trips compared to single rider service.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126593294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have developed a portable monitoring system to estimate daily activities just using simple, low-cost binary sensors and power monitors using MLN (Markov Logic Network), and installed in real elders' homes for monitoring. However, such monitoring systems usually require the Internet connection, which is not often available in depopulated areas due to the blind zone of 3G/LTE or installation cost which incurs extra investment for those people who have no interest in Internet services. In this paper, we propose a method of collecting daily activity monitoring data, which is obtained by our monitoring system working standalone at home, via LPWA (Low Power Wide Area). The idea is to utilize vehicles such as community buses and mail trucks which drive daily along almost fixed routes. An LPWA onboard receiver is mounted to collect data from each LPWA transmitter embedded into our monitoring system at home. Since not all the houses may be covered by the LPWA, LPWA-based \"house clusters\" are automatically formed to deliver the data in the cluster via a home contacted by the receiver vehicle. We have tested the system prototype in our university campus and installed it to the five real houses in the mountainous areas in cooperation with the Toyooka city municipal government, which has to manage broad depopulated areas.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"377 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131779293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Use of personal and on-demand mobility services puts a strain on the existing road network in a city. To mitigate this problem, city planners need a simulation framework to evaluate the effect of any incentive policy in nudging commuters towards alternate modes of travel, such as bike and car-share options. In this paper, we leverage MATSim, an agent-based simulation framework, to integrate agent preference models that capture the altruistic behavior of an agent in addition to their disutility proportional to the travel time and cost. These models are learned in a data-driven approach and can be used to evaluate the sensitivity of an agent to system-level disutility and monetary incentives given, e.g., by the transportation authority. This framework provides a standardized environment to evaluate the effectiveness of any particular incentive policy of a city, in nudging its residents towards alternate modes of transportation. We show the effectiveness of the approach and provide analysis using a case study from the Metropolitan Nashville area.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133628594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This enables common objects to be empowered with communication and cooperation capabilities. Industry can take an enormous advantage of IoT, leading to the so-called Industrial IoT. In these systems, integrity, confidentiality, and access control over data are key requirements. An emerging approach to reach confidentiality and access control is Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE), which is a technique able to enforce cryptographically an access control over data. In this paper, we propose fABElous, an ABE scheme suitable for Industrial IoT applications which aims at minimizing the overhead of encryption on communication. fABElous ensures data integrity, confidentiality, and access control, while reducing the communication overhead of 35% with respect to using ABE techniques naively.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126116186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this purpose, different solutions have been proposed ranging from visual paradigms based on mashups to formal languages. However, most of the paradigms proposed in the literature require further external tools to turn application description code into an executable program before the deployment on target devices. Source code generation, runtime upgrades and recovery, and online debugging and inspection are often cumbersome in these programming environments. In this work we describe a methodology for real-time and on-line programming in smart environments that is compact and efficient enough to run on resource-constrained devices. The pillar of the proposed approach is real-time exchange of executable symbolic code in heterogeneous networks. The methodology is supported by an inference engine that is able to generate symbolic code starting from knowledge about hardware devices and their placement in the environment, and about the application domain. Interoperability with existing smart applications and Internet of Things (IoT) deployments is reached through a symbolic Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) client, and Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) client.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117105559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our optimization framework provides analytical answers to how much compression should be performed at each sensors, and where the data should be cached in the network. We propose a distributed algorithm to implement the optimal policy and adapt to the changes (e.g., cache size and request processes) in the network. We evaluate our approach through extensive simulations on WSNs.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126821978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More and more data owners are storing their data on the cloud. To protect private and sensitive data, user data should be encrypted by the data owner before it is outsourced to the cloud. However, this defeats the merits of cloud computing; the data needs to be decrypted and consumed on the client side. In this paper, we introduce a practical searchable encryption scheme which supports keyword search and similar document search, based on the Vector Space Model (VSM), by harnessing the power of homomorphic encryption (HE). HE is an encryption scheme where arithmetic calculations can be performed without decryption. We first build a term index tree to filter out irrelevant documents. Subsequently, we perform cosine similarity calculation upon search requests. Additionaly, we propose a parallel version of this scheme, which can effectively utilize the power of the cloud. Experiments on real-world datasets indicate that our scheme can effectively provide practical keyword search based on VSMs in a cloud environment.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127956423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, these characteristics make OSNs also target of users interested in performing malicious activities, such as spreading malware and performing phishing attacks. In this paper we address the problem of spam detection on Twitter providing a novel method to support the creation of large-scale annotated datasets. More specifically, URL inspection and tweet clustering are performed in order to detect some common behaviors of spammers and legitimate users. Finally, the manual annotation effort is further reduced by grouping similar users according to some characteristics. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":253364,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131631679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
