In particular, in the present work digital imaging technique is used for performing surface velocity measurements of hyper-concentrated flows. The analysis is conducted with the aid of data collected in a scale laboratory flume constructed at the Hydraulic laboratory of the Department of Civil, Environmental, Aerospatial and of Materials Engineering (DICAM) – University of Palermo (Italy). In the present paper a brief summary of results obtained in previous works on the flow velocity estimation error and uncertainty related to the acquisition procedure is reported.","PeriodicalId":252792,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea; Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters (MetroSea)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121369031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In November 2014 European space agency started a salvaged mission to make two satellites usable. On 5 August 2016 these two satellites started broadcasting ephemerides in navigation message for testing purposes. Any errors in these ephemerides will directly impact the accuracy of Galileo positioning. This paper compares all the Galileo satellites position computed using broadcast ephemerides with the precise position provided by the IGS with a focus on Doresa and Milena satellites. The comparison was undertaken every second during 20 days of data. The statistics of these errors were also analyzed. The position error between the broadcast orbit and the IGS precise orbit was determined for each second for the period starting on February 21, 2018 (DOY 52) to March 12 (DOY 71) by using IGS products. The analysis shows that the broadcast orbit of Doresa and Milena satellite has a daily 3d RMS error of about 2 meters that is a comparable value with that of the other Galileo satellites. Only on DOY 62 they show an RMS 3d error of about 40 meters.","PeriodicalId":252792,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea; Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters (MetroSea)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124236367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three surveys were carried out (namely \"Lampedusa2015\", \"Linosa2016\" and \"BioGeoLin\") to collect bathymetric and acoustic backscatter data through the use of a Reson SeaBat 7125 high-resolution multibeam system. Ground-truth data, in the form of grab samples and diver video-observations, were also collected during the surveys. Sediment samples were analyzed for grain size, while video images were analyzed and described revealing the acoustic seabed and other bio-physical characteristics. Three seabed classification maps, including sediment types and seagrass distribution, were produced using Remote Sensing Object Based Image Analysis by integrating information derived from backscatter data and bathy-morphological features, validated by ground-truth data. The seabed maps, including sediment types and habitat distribution, contribute to the knowledge of the peculiar marine ecosystem observed at the islands.","PeriodicalId":252792,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea; Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters (MetroSea)","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116357314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They include both electronic and traditional signaling systems (e.g. buoys and lights), for which international organizations together with local authorities define operative and technical standards. Work still being finalized in the Venetian Lagoon made it necessary an assessment of the existing signals, with the aim of optimizing their position to guarantee the maximum level of safety in the waterways.This paper presents the procedures followed to reach a solution in line with the safety and efficiency standards given for the AtoN systems in terms of position and luminous characteristics. Moreover, to ensure the continuity of port operations even in poor visibility conditions, an alternative aid system has been studied and formalized for the first time in Italy. It is based on electronic and identification devices which show Virtual AtoN, AtoN that are not physically at sea.","PeriodicalId":252792,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea; Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters (MetroSea)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123304154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By the strict cooperation between Geotechnical Engineering and Measurement Science researchers, a test platform has been designed and realised to test samples with fluid-plastic consistency taken within the first meter below the seafloor. The designed measurement system and the suggested procedure of acquisition and data processing allow for a reliable marine behaviour assessment and they ensure both the human safety and the sample quality.","PeriodicalId":252792,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea; Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters (MetroSea)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114754278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conservation status of the Mediterranean striped dolphin is defined as \"vulnerable\" [1]. Despite its large diffusion, the behaviour of striped dolphin is still not sufficiently known. The investigation of striped dolphin behaviour and its interaction with human activity in a protected area, as the Gulf of Corinth (Greece), would facilitate implementing measure for its conservation. The application of traditional behavioural sampling methods, the development of a dedicated ethogram and the use and customization of the software BORIS for sampling striped dolphin surface behaviour, from land and at sea, is discussed in the present manuscript. The description of behaviour observed for the first time and the difference among behaviours observed from land and at sea and in presence/absence of boat traffic is also presented. The results of this study show that measured behaviours can be considered sensors to monitor the effect of human activity, as boat traffic, on a cetacean’s population.","PeriodicalId":252792,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea; Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters (MetroSea)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116911084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
