The proposed network serves as a digital distribution platform of programmable Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) that enables 5G application use-cases. Currently existing application stores, such as Apple's App Store for iOS applications, Google's Play Store for Android, or Ubuntu's Software Center, deliver applications to user specific software platforms. Our vision is to provide a digital marketplace, gathering 5G enabling Network Applications and Network Functions, written to run on top of commodity cloud infrastructures, connected to remote radio heads (RRH). The 5G Network Store will be the same to the network provider as the application store is currently to a software platform.","PeriodicalId":252790,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Mobility in the Evolving Internet Architecture","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128291910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, one of the main problems is still partially unsolved: battery consumption. The low operating time of the batteries hampers the opportunities for collecting users' location data in order to provide a variety of services,ranging from events suggestion to sport tracking. This article proposes a way to diminish the battery consumption by reducing the communication between the clients and the server. The approach is to model the trajectory of the users, so that the clients communicate a new position only when necessary: namely,when the predicted position excessively deviates from the actual one. In order to demonstrate the idea, a prototype has been implemented. This paper evaluates the performance of the model-based technique and it compares the proposed approach with the approach commonly used for location tracking in mobile devices.","PeriodicalId":252790,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Mobility in the Evolving Internet Architecture","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123804117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of the new techniques being used in next-gen networks are massive MIMO and mm waves. Tight delay needs, especially for a new class of resource- and interaction-intensive applications, cannot be met through only enhancing networks. A solution is to create an overlay network of Cloudlets. Such edge computing also helps in virtualizing network functions (aka NFV -- Network Function Virtualization). Rapid traffic growth requires doubling network capacity every year. Service providers need to find smart ways of maximizing use of current capacity to minimize swap outs. Two sample solutions will be presented: preloading of content using a Mobile Smartloading and download of video content during good network connectivity using Smart Video Streaming.","PeriodicalId":252790,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Mobility in the Evolving Internet Architecture","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115651506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Time-based pricing schemes could be used to address this problem giving users the opportunity to choose when they desire to spend their own resources to access the Internet. However, distinct base stations that make up a cellular data network often do not experience the same workload over time. Thus, a time-based pricing approach could create an undesirable situation to users who happen to be in a region covered by a base station that is currently overloaded. This paper presents a workload-aware dynamic time-based pricing scheme which uses historical workload of each base station to differentiate prices in order to foster the geographically distribution of the Internet accesses over the ISP's network. We evaluate the proposed pricing scheme via simulation using some human mobility models, and compare it with two other state-of-the-art pricing schemes. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to better redistribute the network workload among a larger number of base stations in different human mobility models, when compared to the alternatives. This allows ISP's to accommodate a larger number of users since our approach help ISP to avoid the overload of base station resources.","PeriodicalId":252790,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Mobility in the Evolving Internet Architecture","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126060377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides a multihoming management mechanism for gateway discovery and selection, on top of an efficient multihomed mobility model integrating different mobility and multihoming protocols. We describe how the MMNA was experimentally implemented and evaluated in a testbed setup. We first validated the capabilities of the solution in terms of different multihoming features, namely load sharing, link failure recovery, and preference setting. We then examined the effectiveness and feasibility of the MMNA solution considering a use case example of a search and rescue scenario. The results highlight the practicality and advantages of deploying the MMNA solution into realistic scenarios.","PeriodicalId":252790,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Mobility in the Evolving Internet Architecture","volume":"8 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123669591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By leveraging the Named Data Networking (NDN) principle, we propose sNDN, a social-aware NDN framework to achieve efficient cooperative content retrieval. Specifically, sNDN introduces Friendship Circle by grouping a user with her close friends of high physical proximity and content similarity. We construct NDN routing tables conditioned on Friendship Circle encounter frequency to navigate content requests and content deliveries between Friendship Circles, and leverage social properties in Friendship Circle to search for the final target as inner-Friendship Circle routing. The evaluation results demonstrate that sNDN outperforms other content retrieval schemes significantly.","PeriodicalId":252790,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Mobility in the Evolving Internet Architecture","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115826570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the infrastructure at venues that host live events provide poor, low-bandwidth connectivity. Instead of relying on infrastructure provided by the venue, we propose to stand up a temporary \"infrastructure\" using the very devices that need it, to enable content-sharing with nearby devices. To this end, we developed Krowd, a novel system that provides a key-value store abstraction to applications that share content among local, nearby users. We evaluated Krowd using over 200 hours of real-world traces from sold-out NBA and NHL playoffs and show that it is 50% faster and consumes 50% less bandwidth than alternative systems. We believe that Krowd is the only decentralized and distributed system to provide a key-value store made for neighboring mobile devices and of neighboring mobile devices.","PeriodicalId":252790,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Mobility in the Evolving Internet Architecture","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115064274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
