This platform utilizes commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) available hardware and software tools, thereby eliminating the need for custom-designed sensor's integration boards. The design involves Data Acquisition (DAQ) device, attached with Host PC, providing an interface to communicate with sensors. Sensors data is read from DAQ via Host PC application and on request wirelessly sent to MP. Mobile phone is used as an information retrieval agent, in order to retrieve the sensory data and onward forwarding the information to end user via Cellular or Web services. This integration eliminates the need for dedicated circuitry in sensors, allows the addition of several types of sensors and implements multiple wireless protocols (BT or Wi-Fi), keeping in view the requirement of range and data rate. Sensors history data is maintained on Host PC, where detailed analysis may be performed. Mobile phone applications are developed using Native language, while Host PC applications are developed in Graphical language, which results into full featured, efficient and user friendly applications development. The feasibility of our solution is supported by the case study under taken, where we validated our design with the help of prototype open sensor platform. Its multiple applications include; monitoring the test chamber's internal conditions, fetching environmental parameters, laboratory experimentations etc. This work successfully achieves the integration of sensors and mobile phone in a promising way.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124095882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have investigated this model and have achieved improved clustering performance by fine tuning the related model parameters. Yi Yang (2010) proposed clustering algorithm namely local discriminant model and global integration (LDMGI). Clustering parameters are number of nearest neighbours (k) and regularization parameter (λ). The reported parameters are k = 5 and the optimal value of λ selected from set {10-8 - 108} with step size of 102. It is observed that LDMGI clustering performance can be improved with different combination of k and λ. But no criteria exist for the selection of optimal k and λ for best clustering performance. We developed Improved-LDMGI by fine tuning the optimal value of λ in small step size of 0.25 while keeping k = 5 for all image dataset except handwritten image dataset. Significant performance improvement, on average of 7.0 percent, is observed.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128131146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We prescribe wall boundary conditions at ghost points near embedded boundaries by using local symmetry conditions. We test two ghost point treatments for supersonic flow over a wedge. In the standard ghost point treatment, the numerical solution at the corresponding mirror points is interpolated either linearly or quadratically. The accuracy of our second order node-centered finite volume method is independent of a linear or quadratic interpolation. In a simplified ghost point treatment, we consider the closest grid point in y-direction as mirror points of the ghost points. The simplified ghost point treatment exhibits lower or comparable mass flow error than the standard ghost point treatment. Moreover, the Cartesian grid and the body-fitted grid methods are applied to supersonic flow over a circular arc airfoil. The comparison of these two methods depicts the requirement of a larger number of grid points for the Cartesian grid method than the body-fitted grid method.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128154247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, the role of spanwise flow on delayed stall is also analyzed. This study will help in identifying the suitable parameters for the wing of MAV. Calculations are performed at constant angle of attack of 10°, 20°, 30° and 40°; acceleration duration of 10°, 20° and 30°; aspect ration of 3, 4.5 and 6 and taper ratio of 0.5, 0.75 and 1. In order to analyze the spanwise flow, velocity was calculated on the wing at different chord lengths. Results indicated that Cl and Cd increased with the increase in angle of attack and leading edge vortex was more prominent achieved as a result of delayed stall at later stage of sweeping motion was independent of initial acceleration duration. The variation of aspect ratio had minor effects on aerodynamic force production. The values of C1 and Cd increased with the increase in taper ratio and purely rectangular wing produced better results. The velocity vectors confirmed the presence of spanwise velocity on the wing at leading edge vortex core. This velocity initially increased and attained the maximum value close to mid-span and this value was larger than the chordwise velocity corresponding to Re under investigation.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114807632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a local normalized cross correlation based approach is presented that reduces the impact of the above mentioned issues and improves the performance of a geo-registration system. Further enhancements to the proposed approach are also presented to reduce the processing time and improve the performance speed. Extensive experimentation on the proposed approach was conducted to evaluate its performance against standard geo-registration approaches.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127087003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The blade made by GE is twisted along its length so its modeling is quite difficult. The blade has been designed using reverse engineering technique in which different scans of the actual model are taken and then by merging these scans in Geomagic Studio software, analytical model is made. The remaining difficulty of generating grid is done in Gridgen. In order to manufacture the blade, a mold of plaster of paris was prepared using actual blade model as pattern. Then fiber glass is poured into the mold to make the physical model for testing. The flow analysis was done experimentally in a Wind Tunnel at low velocities so as to avoid the blade stall and vibrational effects. The coefficient of drag and lift are then computed using gas dynamics theory. While CFD analysis was done using 3D domain and laminar flow approximations to obtain the results for lift and drag coefficients. The results of CFD simulations are then compared with the experimentally calculated data. There is a slight difference in the compared results owing to the fact that ideal conditions could not be maintained experimentally.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134046696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wire/cable models are simulated in open circuit, short circuit and matched load configuration which may correspond to a signal line, power supply line and an RF cable, and their results are analyzed. The analysis shows that cable/wire connected with the EUT radiates more in vertical direction (direction normal to test table) as compared to the horizontal direction (direction parallel to test table) at various bands of the testing frequency range. Generally vertical measurements (normal to table) are not taken for the measurement of EMI/EMC. The performed analysis suggests that this is important for EMI/EMC compliance of the unit / subsystem particularly for the cases of satellite where electronics are very closely packed and push is for using Commercial of the Shelf technology.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"IM-34 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132900920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, relative GNC methods for aerial vehicle landing including GPS (Global Position System), INS (Inertial Navigation System) and ILS (instrument landing system) can't fully satisfy the requirements for UAV autonomous landing on the runway or un-cooperation environment. With the gradual progress and maturity of computer vision technology, visual navigation technology in UAV autonomous landing area has been extensively studied. In this paper, we firstly review different vision-based approaches for guidance and safe landing of different types of UAVs including fixed wing and rotorcraft and point out the key technology of vision-based GNC. Secondly, we introduce our research work in this field. In our group, aiming at the real airport scenes pictures taken from a UAV landing process, the real-time and robust method of image feature information extraction is proposed. As well, we realize the algorithm software in DM642 hardware platform and tested its practical application performance in the laboratory semi-physical simulation environment. The prospect for the development of vision-based GNC for UAV autonomous landing is made at the end of the paper.","PeriodicalId":251584,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132522610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
