The proposed design procedure is based on the parameter-dependent quadratic stability approach. A new uncertain LPV system model has been introduced in this paper. To access the performance quality the notion of a parameter varying guaranteed cost is used. However, for some systems, the presence of delay can have a stabilizing effect. Therefore, stability and control of time-delay systems is of theoretical and practical importance. Modern control systems usually employ digital technology for controller implementation, i.e. sampled-data control. A time-delay approach to sampled-data control, where the system is modeled as a continuous-time system with the delayed control input became popular in the networked control systems, where the plant and the controller exchange data via communication network. In the present Tutorial, introduction to time-delay systems will be given together with some advanced results on the topic.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131657684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Relying on state space representations that incorporate the effects of external disturbances and may be applied in most rotorcraft configurations, the basis for robust control is derived. Employing such models, a receding horizon control strategy that uses the minimum peak performance measure is developed, such that it ensures the minimum possible deviation from the reference for the worst-case disturbance, as well as robust satisfaction of the imposed state and input constraints. Furthermore, proper augmentation of the proposed framework allows the incorporation of obstacle avoidance capabilities. Employing multi-parametric methods the controller is computed explicitly and therefore enables fast real-time execution. The efficiency of the robust predictive control law is evaluated using experimental studies on two different unmanned rotorcraft configurations. The presented experiments include trajectory tracking subject to atmospheric disturbances, slung load operations, collisions handling as well as avoidance of known obstacles.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"1988 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125484826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem can be solved with Dynamic Programming (DP), but the algorithm requires the problem to be gridded in time, states and control signals. To ensure a high accuracy of the solution the grid must be dense, meaning that the cost-to-go can require several megabytes of memory. The scope of this paper is therefore twofold. The first topic is a sensitivity study, where the effect of a sparsely gridded state is investigated, both for an HEV and a plug-in HEV (PHEV). The study shows that it is possible to use a sparse grid for an HEV, but not for a PHEV. The second topic and the main contribution is a method to approximate the DP cost-to-go with cubic splines. The results indicate that it is possible to use only a few splines, if the knot points are determined based on the characteristics of the cost-to-go. Thereby it is possible to significantly reduce the memory requirements, without any noticeable increase in simulated fuel consumption.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121621087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aerial manipulation introduces modeling errors due to payload and parameter changes. When large external forces are applied, small helicopters must fly at orientations far outside hover conditions. The compensation of such uncertainties can be achieved through disturbance observation (DO). An onboard IMU makes the platform well-suited for acceleration-based DO. In this paper, we evaluate a cascaded attitude and position tracking controller for a quadrotor. Quaternions are used for attitude control to allow large orientation angles. We investigate attitude tracking by the boundary-layer integral sliding mode control coupled with acceleration-based DO. The position controller generates singularity-free quaternion and angular velocity signals. The presented controller is experimentally verified and compared to PID and backstepping controllers for trajectory tracking and hovering in turbulent conditions. Compensation of large external forces in the horizontal plane is shown through a stable 45° hover.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114206182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The certain conditions to ensure that the estimation error of CKF remains bounded are proved. Then, the effect of process noise covariance is investigated and an adaptive process noise covariance is proposed to deal with large estimation error. Accordingly, a modified CKF (MCKF) is developed to enhance the stability and accuracy of state estimation. The performance of the MCKF is compared to the CKF by two case studies. Simulation results demonstrate that the large estimation error may lead to instability of CKF while the MCKF is successfully able to estimate the states.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"123 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116715600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The idea is to improve the initialisation of the space traversal algorithms by providing initial estimates that restrict the search over a fraction of the original space. The reduction of the search space ensures that the space traversal algorithms can find the solution significantly faster as if sought over the full space. The proposed approach comprises two algorithms. The first algorithm generates an orthogonal partition of the search space off-line which is represented by a quadtree. In the second algorithm, the quadtree is traversed on-line and a particular space traversal method is initialised. The paper provides complexity analysis of both algorithms in the runtime and storage requirements. The approach is tested numerically on multiple examples and achieves significant reduction of iterations in the space traversal methods.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121690853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are limitations associated, many of which are imposed due to the manner uncertain parameters can be treated. In this work, a new method of generating robust and adaptive thresholds is developed, where uncertain parameters are treated as intervals that vary between the upper and lower bounds. The developed method proposes to generate the envelopes, using the interval extension form of uncertain part of Analytic redundancy relations (ARR) that are derived from BG model in LFT form. The method is applied on an uncertain two tank system to show its viability. Issue of missed detection is discussed where not all of the considered uncertain parameters may deviate outside their allowed limits. To diagnose such a case, generation of multiple thresholds is proposed by selection of parameters based on their increasing activity. The algorithm for generation of set of robust envelopes is presented and applied over the hydraulic system to alleviate the missed alarm problem. Results are validated through simulations.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114300600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A typical example of the network appears in windfarms that have recently attracted a lot of interest as an alternative renewable energy resource with large capacity. In this paper, we derive a mathematical model representing nonlinear dynamics occurring in the induction generator network and then present a phenomenon of nonlinear instability. The dynamical mechanism of the phenomenon is discussed in terms of collective variables and mode decomposition.","PeriodicalId":251538,"journal":{"name":"2014 European Control Conference (ECC)","volume":"222 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122608165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
