Rather than either relying on known pilot symbols multiplexed within the transmitted burst or exploiting the specific signal structure in a blind mode, the maximum likelihood estimation algorithm we derive takes advantage of both pilot symbols and also indirectly of the data symbols through differential decisions. When compared to conventional pilot-based methods, the proposed approach improves the frequency acquisition range without degrading accuracy, while retaining approximately the same computational load.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131852956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed scheme, the relay-specific interleaving is performed on subcarriers in the frequency domain, which we call IDM Space-Frequency Code (IDM-SFC). IDM-SFC in combination with OFDM radio access is well-suited for distributed deployment of relays, as it is robust to the multi-path interference and it can achieve full spatial diversity with a constant rate of 1 on the relay-destination hop irrespective of the number of parallel relay nodes. It will be shown that IDM-SFC outperforms other promising distributed diversity schemes like OFDM with Cyclic Delay Diversity (CDD) significantly in various scenarios. In addition to Frame Error Rate (FER) analysis, also more theoretical considerations are carried out with the help of Extrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) Charts giving a better insight into the different approaches.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114254553","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A downlink frequency-domain scheduling approach is proposed to roughly separate the macro- and femtocell resource allocation with a small signaling load increase from macrocell to femtocells. The scheduling approach is also modified to fit single-carrier operation in LTE uplink. Extensive simulations are carried out with LTE system compliance and results show the proposed scheduler effectively improves the system throughput up to a moderate resource utilization.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121864280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike related work where the design of the MU-MIMO component is jointly performed with the subcarrier allocation among the users (e.g. some form of OFDMA is present), here it is assumed that the selected users will have to share the utilization of all the subcarriers in the system. This scenario would be typical of deployments based on time multiplexing policies (e.g., WLANs) where the proposed MU-MIMO add-on would serve to increase the system capacity. A new algorithm is introduced to select the users taking into account their channel response over all subcarriers and performing a joint frequency-space power allocation. Numerical results demonstrate very significant improvements in terms of sum-rate capacity in comparison to a conventional (opportunistic) TDMA scheme.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116618272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Position estimation in indoor or urban area with cellular wireless communication systems is getting more and more important. However, especially in these environments NLOS propagation causes positioning errors in the order of hundreds of meters. Thus, detection and mitigation of NLOS signals is a critical task. In this paper, we derive the FAP and DP on power-scaled detectors based on LTE multipath signals. The derivation considers frequency-selective fading channels taking sub-sample multipath interference, channel dynamics and initial frequency offsets into account. The results show a simple way to calculate the DP versus FAP. Simulation results verify the analytical probabilities for the WINNER II C2 channel model. Additionally, the simulations show the improved FAP of an antenna array at the receiver.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125315292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For estimation in the frequency domain, a simple iterative interpolation method is proposed by using the soft information from the channel decoder. Together with a simple linear interpolation in time domain, channel estimates are obtained in an iterative way with low complexity. Simulation results show that even simple iterative approaches provide considerable improvement.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121560154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Motivated by this need, this paper first derives a simple link performance prediction model for bit interleaved coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (BIC-OFDM) systems using incremental redundancy (IR) hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) mechanisms. Then, an adaptive HARQ strategy is formulated whose aim is maximizing the goodput (GP) metric, i.e., the number of error-free information bits delivered to the user by unit of time, over the coding rate, the bit distribution and an on-off power allocation across the active subchannels. Simulation results corroborate the GP performance gains of the proposed approach compared with non-adaptive transmissions, while keeping the computational complexity at affordable levels.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114963941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dispersive nature of the optical channel results in a frequency selective equivalent channel if double sideband (DSB) intensity modulation (IM) and direct detection (DD) is employed. In order to maintain the allpass nature of the physical channel, sideband suppression using optical filters has to be applied. We will show that by use of bit and power loading, this optical filter can be rendered unnecessary.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126479675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper demonstrates that different spectral factors have a different impact on finite-support random sequences in terms of peak-to-average power ratio. It is shown that selecting the factor with minimum ℓ1-norm when implementing a digital filter is a penalty-free way to decrease a filtered signal's peakiness. Potential benefit and limitations in practical applications are explored.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121810138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
