The tool enables an effective design of the communication system, with special respect to the setting of the operating point of the transmitter's power amplifier. First, an analytical characterization of the nonlinear distortion effects caused by the amplifier on bandlimited BIC-OFDM signals is carried out by resorting to the extended version of the Bussgang theorem. Then, the equivalent additive noise model provided by the Bussgang-based analysis is taken into account in the derivation of a novel link quality prediction method, named BκESM. Finally, the novel BκESM tool is employed in the link design phase for choosing the best amplifier setting, aimed at maximizing the layer-3 offered traffic over a realistic wireless channel, featuring both multipath propagation and nonlinear distortions.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126238110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effective SNR over typical IEEE 802.11ad channel models is used as the criterion to compare the beamforming performance. Symbol-wise beamforming reduces the complexity considerably compared to subcarrier-wise beamforming with some performance loss, while hybrid beamforming provides much less performance degradation at a reasonable cost. In order to verify the results, the bit error rate (BER) performance is simulated. In addition, the system throughput over range is presented in the paper.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"390 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126744218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique is named uplink interference protection (ULIP). ULIP exploits existing reference signals transmitted by all base stations (BSs). The fact that path loss and lognormal shadowing can be considered reciprocal in such frequency-division duplex (FDD) systems is exploited. Therefore, no additional signalling is required for a new mobile station (MS) to estimate the level of inter-cell interference it would cause to ongoing uplink transmissions in neighbouring cells. Using the acquired knowledge, MSs can adjust their transmit power to ensure that existing links are not forced into outage. A scheduling scheme is suggested in which a fair allocation of priority resource blocks (RBs), based on user signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratios (SINRs), enhances both cell-edge throughput and user throughput fairness. Through this, also significant system throughput gains are generated. Finally, it is demonstrated that as a side effect of the interference reductions, considerable energy savings can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122236178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that short-message QF with backward or pipelined (sliding-window) decoding also achieves the same rates. Similarly, for many relays and sources, short-message QF with backward decoding achieves the same rates as long-message QF. Several practical advantages of short-message encoding are pointed out, e.g., reduced delay and simpler modulation. Furthermore, short-message encoding lets relays use decode-forward (DF) if their channel quality is good, thereby enabling multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) gains that are not possible with long-message encoding. Finally, one may combine the advantages of long- and short-message encoding by hashing a long message to short messages.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129279931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is not desirable that additive noise on the specific carrier whose signal-to-noise ratio is very low may degrade total system performance. Iterative detection of pre-coded OFDM has already been proposed to overcome this problem. In this paper, theoretical analysis of detection of pre-coded OFDM is performed in order to achieve optimal detection. As the result of analysis, some condition that achieves better performance has been derived.","PeriodicalId":251147,"journal":{"name":"2011 8th International Workshop on Multi-Carrier Systems & Solutions","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125551552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
