Rong, Xi Li, Yuwei Fu","doi":"10.1109/CATCON.2017.8280182","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CATCON.2017.8280182","url":null,"abstract":"Partial discharge (corona discharge) is generated in the gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) before faults occur due to insulation defects. The GIS is usually filled with compressed SF6 for electric insulation. When partial discharge occurs, a portion of SF6 will decompose and oxidize in the presence of oxygen and water vapor to form various stable gaseous by-products, including SO2F2, SOF2, SOF4, SO2, S2F10, S2OF10, S2O2F10, SF4, HF and so on. In order to analyze the discharge mechanism, two zone chemical kinetic models are coupled to interpret the chemical process of point-to-plane 50 Hz ac corona discharge. In the plasma region, the electron impact dissociation reactions, electron-impact ionization reactions, electron-impact attachment reactions, radical-radical reactions, and ion-radical reactions are considered. SF6 decomposes into various low fluorine sulfides, which continue to react with the radicals O or OH, produced from the dissociation of H2O and O2. The electron energy is the function of electric field at 300K. In addition, the stable fragments from SF6 decomposition in the plasma region, like SF2 and SF4, diffuse into the main gas volume and react with water or oxygen to produce the feature by-products SO2F2, SOF2 and SOF4. With comparing the variation rules of these decomposition byproducts with time from simulation and the experimental results, the model is verified to be reliable and reasonable. And also, the physicochemical process of SF6 decomposition mechanism under corona discharge can be captured.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124796004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SM is a deterministic method which is generally used for the local search and PSO is a stochastic population based method used for global search. Thus, this paper combines the advantage of both the methods to refine the solution. Base level search is done using PSO and finally local search is done through SM to improve the overall quality of results obtained. The proposed approach is tested on multiobjective economic emission load dispatch problem and the results obtained are then compared with other available methods to show its quality and robustness. Price penalty factor method is further used to convert this multiobjective optimization problem into single objective problem. Multifuel options, valve point loading effect and transmission losses are also included in the load dispatch problem to give the practical aspect to the problem. Quality analysis is also done against classical PSO method to show the robustness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"58 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123302661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such systems comprise of healthy operational transformers that are continuously being monitored for their functionality and operational conditions. Transformer Asset Management (TAM) defines the monitoring activities and responsive actions taken to protect the reliability of power systems against the transformers failure. Failure of transformers primarily occurs due to the aging of the oil-paper insulation system. One of the recently used transformer assessment techniques in the TAM industry is the Health Index (HI). The HI value mainly indicates the condition of the transformer in question based on the insulation strength. A set of insulation condition tests/parameters for transformer oil samples is used to compute the HI value. The combined cost for conducting such tests would be expensive for a vast number of transformer oil samples. The objective of the presented work is to reduce the HI cost by reducing the number of required condition tests. Such an objective is achieved with the use of artificial neural networks (ANN) for HI prediction, and feature-based exhaustive technique for eliminating the least significant tests.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"701 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116099349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moisture ingression into arresters internal region is one of the most important degrading external factor which need to be monitored carefully after years of it's operation. So, leakage current analysis is performed on a fresh 11kV ZnO surge arrester to track it's degree of degradation due to internal moisture. Accelerated moisture ingression is done by keeping MOSA immersed into hot water for almost a month. It is already been well established that resistive component of leakage current is more sensitive to any kind of degradation of active ZnO element than total leakage current. Therefore, variation of resistive leakage current and it's different harmonic components with inner moisture content have been investigated and explained in this paper.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114362101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The formation of space charge is intrinsically related to charge injection, trapping and conduction in a dielectric. In case of polar dielectrics like epoxy resin, in addition to space charge injection and accumulation, dipolar polarization also plays a prominent role in determining its behavior at high electric fields. In this work, a method has been proposed to separately identify charge injection conduction and dipolar polarization from polarization current measurements performed on thin epoxy resin samples. The samples were stressed at 10 kV/mm and 20 kV/mm electric fields prior to depolarization. The time domain measurements were correlated with frequency domain measurements using Hamon approximation. It was found that at both electric fields, the observed polarization current was highly influenced by charge injection.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116594107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since its introduction, researchers have been working on to increase its ability to predict the incipient faults more accurately. DGA methods have been shifting from off-line to online monitoring, and interpretation techniques from key gas and ratio methods to graphical methods and more advanced methods. But presently, the DGA data is used to interpret more detailed information about the faults like severity of the fault or involvement of solid insulation. In this paper, an effort has been made to cover some of such emerging techniques in the field of DGA along with issues like stray gassing problem, scheduling DGA inspection etc. With the development of alternate insulating liquids, DGA of such liquids is gaining importance and have been proactively covered in this paper. Further, the extensive implementation of AI techniques for more flexible interpretation of DGA data is also evaluated through this paper.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128467765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The polarization and depolarization currents are measured at various moisture contents and temperature. The direct approach of performing symbolic computation using software such as Maple becomes severely restrictive, because, the memory and computational time required increases unboundedly, even for moderate-sized networks. So, handling large-sized ladder networks are ruled out. To circumvent this bottleneck, authors propose an entirely numeric approach, i.e., a symbol-free method to compute any network function (e.g. transfer or driving-point), which is time-efficient, poses no restrictions on the network-size and the number of windings that can be included. Furthermore, it includes both winding and dielectric losses and every inductor and capacitor is coupled to every other inductor and capacitor, thus making it fully-coupled. Details of its formulation are described and simulation results are presented to demonstrate its time-efficiency and applicability to both single- and three-phase winding configurations.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132530637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In different reported methods of analysis it is considered that polarization current is composed of the current due to dipole movement and conduction current. Similarly the depolarization current is assumed to be composed of relaxation of dipoles. However when the dc conduction effect is removed from polarization current it is found the resulting current is not similar to the measured depolarization current. This deviation in both the currents show the presence of nonlinearity in the system. This nonlinearity arises due to migration of trapped charges that reside at the interfacial region of oil-paper insulation. The present paper shows the effect of such free charge on some important performance parameters like paper moisture and zero of Transfer Function of Classical Debye Model.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133510233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Partial discharge can be detected using Ultra high frequency (UHF) sensors. For the experimental work, Four Monopole UHF sensors are made, in conical shape with different base diameter and different axial length. These sensors can receive the waveform of electromagnetic interference using high bandwidth digital signal Oscilloscope (DSO) with the help of different co-axial cables. PD location can be identified using the method of time difference of arrival (TDOA) of signals at sensors located at different position. From geometric triangulation and using Pythagoras theorem the different set of equation can be adopted. The set of nonlinear equation has been solved using Newton-Raphson method. First peak and energy cumulative methods have been used to determine the time differences. Experimental data are collected and appropriate analysis is done with the help of MATLAB to obtain outputs of Partial Discharge Source Location.","PeriodicalId":250717,"journal":{"name":"2017 3rd International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115770967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
