We find that children from low-income families tend to have higher ADHD symptom scores and are more likely to be diagnosed than children from higher-income families. However, they were also shown to have a higher likelihood of being underdiagnosed (conditional on not having a diagnosis) and were less likely to visit a pediatrician. Interestingly, migrants were significantly less likely to be diagnosed than non-migrants, but were more likely to visit a pediatrician. Parental education variables were shown to “absorb†the effect of income when added to all of these regressions, considerably reducing the significance of the effect of income on all outcome variables. These results seem to suggest that children from families of low socioeconomic status in Germany may be at a “double jeopardy†in terms of having a higher prevalence of ADHD, and yet not receiving the appropriate diagnoses necessary for further treatment.","PeriodicalId":250628,"journal":{"name":"INTL: Social & Cultural Issues (Topic)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127714509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study uses research on guanxi and conflict management to identify critical conditions that facilitate effective collaboration between competitors. It theorizes that a high level of guanxi promotes cooperative and reduces competitive approaches to conflict that in turn facilitate partnership effectiveness. Data were collected from 100 paired competitors, operating in many industries in Shanghai, China. Results from the structural equation analysis indicated that a high level of guanxi reduces a competitive approach to conflict that in turn results in partnership effectiveness. These findings were interpreted as providing support that a high level of guanxi and a reduced level of the competitive approach to conflict are foundations for effective collaboration between competitors in China and perhaps in other countries as well.","PeriodicalId":250628,"journal":{"name":"INTL: Social & Cultural Issues (Topic)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"118724591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon was so far explained as a byproduct of a signal conveyed by statutory minimum wages to wage setting in the informal sector, as if workers in the latter had significant bargaining power. A simple matching model shows that the lighthouse effect may be induced by significant sorting and composition effects between the formal and shadow sectors in the aftermath of the increase in the minimum wage. Using data on Brazil, we test this alternative explanation of the lighthouse effect, associated with the endogenous sorting of workers by skill in the formal and informal sectors. We find that sorting accounts for at least one third of the increase in average wages in the informal sector after the minimum wage hike. This contribution of sorting to wage dynamics in the informal sector is also increasing over time.","PeriodicalId":250628,"journal":{"name":"INTL: Social & Cultural Issues (Topic)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124463310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Around 60% to 70% of total employment is employees in S&M in all European countries. S&M is key factor of social and national economic stability. That is why developed countries take special attention to S&M.Companies what belong to S&M from developed European countries attempt to be included in global business trends, for example they are included in export-import businesses outside of Europe and their portion in these kinds of businesses are 10%. Countries in transition are just trying to manage development of S&M, it means development of S&M is happening spontaneously. Transition from central planning economy to market economy has been paid with lower quality of development for S&M. Export-import businesses where are included S&M companies from countries in transition are linked only for neighboring countries and there is almost no any intercontinental businesses.The world financial crises are much deeper than what was expected, because there is no ideas how to solve these financial problems. The biggest corporations in the world are not prepared to solve social and economic problems in national economies. That is why S&M is getting more important role in global economic stability. Further to economic crises the role of government in national economy has been replaced by regional and local economies. It means S&M companies are together with local areas become factor of development for sustainable economic development and manage this development.Comparative analyses of S&M in developed European countries and European countries in transition for the first level of analysis, showed high level of similarity for strategic positioning of S&M in national economies. Analysis of basic factors for development, apropos characteristics of factors for development showed important differences between developed European countries and European countries in transition. What kind of unfavorable specificities of S&M for countries in economic transition making influence? On what way is possible to contribute for development of S&M for countries in transition? What has to be the role of government for development of S&M for economies in transition, compare to developed European economies? How to link S&M from developed European economies with economies in transition? These basic questions will be answered in this analysis and in the same time will join to requirements for incentive development of S&M and eliminate key differences between S&M in developed European economies and European economiesin transition.","PeriodicalId":250628,"journal":{"name":"INTL: Social & Cultural Issues (Topic)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127257456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Business organization can be based on science or empirical method. Science method is based on organization models and definitions from literature and empirical method is based on experience in doing business. We will research which method is used in Bosnia and Herzegovina companies. Our research objects were four companies which are temporarily the best in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Energoinvest dd Sarajevo, Energoinvest SUE, Energoinvest TDS, Butmir d.o.o. The research is based on hypothesis that business organization in Bosnian and Herzegovina companies is based on science method and will be done on base of 7S model. Our goal is to investigate all elements defined in this model. If those elements are in accordance with definitions and models from literature it means that business organization is based on science method. Company who follow science method can be considered as serious company, which can be part of EU business, nevertheless as an actor on EU market or as partner of EU companies on the market of third countries.","PeriodicalId":250628,"journal":{"name":"INTL: Social & Cultural Issues (Topic)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134218770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As in other countries, ageing will lead to an increase in expenditure on pensions and other welfare services. Other than the increase in spending due to the expected demographic developments, they observe that the risk of overrun in expenditure is mostly related to the production process in public services, given that the public sector in Finland is generally service-oriented. In order to contain the upward trend in costs, productivity developments in the public sector will have to be particularly relevant. The Authors note that if a positive productivity trend were to generate substantial cost containment, tax cuts could also be consistent with fiscal stability. However, this would imply a reversal of the negative productivity trend observed in recent years. Hence, it would be advisable that the adjustment of expenditure policy allows the government to face the possible negative growth and productivity scenarios.","PeriodicalId":250628,"journal":{"name":"INTL: Social & Cultural Issues (Topic)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124968900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to this analysis, the simple dualism between Northern and Southern Italy does not allow an exhaustive map of social capital geography in Italy. The so-called “Third Italy” regions – North-East and Tuscany especially – where the incidence of industrial districts is remarkable, are widely endowed with social capital, and, precisely, with the “macro” component of social capital, whose accumulation involves many people, favouring trust.","PeriodicalId":250628,"journal":{"name":"INTL: Social & Cultural Issues (Topic)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125341790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
