The traffic increase and its very nature (which is self-similar) necessitated revising in a drastic manner the plans for Internet development. Moreover, different forms of information (notably multimedia) have created a need to stress quality of service requirements allowing request for special treatment of certain traffic flows. Efforts in that direction include resource reservation signaling protocol (RSVP), integrated services architecture and differential services. All these developments led thinking about a new generation Internet in general general an Internet 2 initiative for the universities and research communities. A base for these developments is the implementation of vBNS (very high speed Backbone Network Service). For the Internet 2 project, a separate project called Abilene is expected to supply its backbone. Also, a new Internet protocol IPv6 is expected to support: both unicasting and multicasting, prefix routing and aggregation, an increased minimum transfer unit, and an expanded addressing scheme. Emphasis is also an real-time applications with the introduction in the application layer of the real-time streaming protocol (RTSP). Finally, with the need for mobile access to the Internet, the existing protocol is being modified to take these requirements into account.","PeriodicalId":250544,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth National Radio Science Conference. Enhancing of available bit rate traffic management schemes in ATM networks 增强ATM网络中可用的比特率流量管理方案

{"title":"Enhancing of available bit rate traffic management schemes in ATM networks","authors":"H. A. Amer","doi":"10.1109/NRSC.1999.760895","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/NRSC.1999.760895","url":null,"abstract":"The rate-based flow control for available bit rate (ABR) services in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks is presented. A closed control loop between the source and the destination is performed to implement flow control for ABR services. The source sends resource management (RM) cells with the data cells to be used to indicate the sending station's current transmission rate and the higher rate it would like to use. Based on this information the available cell rate (ACR) which the network can afford is calculated. This is performed in three different ways known as explicit forward congestion identification (EFCI), relative rate marking (RRM) and explicit proportional rate control algorithm (EPRCA). In this paper the combination of the three different schemes is considered. A general formula for evaluating ACR value is given when two network conditions are considered, namely heavy load and moderate load. The new ACR value is calculated based on a feedback acknowledgement from the bottleneck switch. This acknowledgement suggests a new ACR value namely explicit rate (ER)-a rate that the congested switch can afford. A computer simulation is performed to examine the performance of a network consisting of two ATM switches applying the previously mentioned control schemes. High performance is achieved when using the explicit rate (ER) determined by the congested switch.","PeriodicalId":250544,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth National Radio Science Conference. The difference technique is used to remove the correlation between adjacent LSP coefficients in the present frame, while the moving average (MA) prediction removes the correlation between the corresponding coefficients in successive frames. Two techniques are used for residual quantization, the first is a low complexity scalar quantizer with 20-25 bits per frame with 20 ms frame size. The second is of higher complexity but lower bit rate which uses 14 bits per frame two stages vector quantizer (VQ). The DMAP quantization technique yields a good performance comparable to the moving average two-stage split vector quantizer used in the ITU-T G.729 standard.","PeriodicalId":250544,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth National Radio Science Conference. It describes a convergent adaptive algorithm that identifies the parameters of the unknown system whether a minimum phase or non-minimum phase one. The identification process is achieved through exciting the adaptive system by an independent random identically distributed signal i.i.d., and minimizing-in a least squares sense-the difference between the cumulants of the desired response and the output of the adaptive system. In the general ARMA process, the adaptive system is modeled as discrete orthogonal sections. Illustrative examples are given to show that the proposed method manages to identify unknown systems that known published fail to identify. The identification is shown to be successful even when the desired signal is contaminated with noise.","PeriodicalId":250544,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth National Radio Science Conference. The proposed scheme generates an output code word, which consist of a binary and a ternary digit. This is achieved by modifying the basic step size compared to the other systems, and hence, provide a more accurate reproduction of the waveform. Besides, it is able to respond to very fast changes in the input due to the wide range of step changes. Simulation results indicate that, the proposed algorithm yields about an 8-dB signal to noise ratio and a 5-10 dB dynamic range improvement compared to other schemes. Further, the effects of channel errors have been studied and its channel error tolerance is satisfactory (0.15%).","PeriodicalId":250544,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth National Radio Science Conference. The proposed technique is particularly suited to submicron transistors since its sensitivity is inversely proportional to the square of the transistor's channel length. The proposed method is based on a new analytical model for the pulsed drain current in strong inversion. The model relates the pulsed drain current to the classical charge pumping current thus enabling the determination of the interface trap density and time constant in an easy and accurate way. The method is compared to classical charge pumping measurements and very good agreement is found between the two methods.","PeriodicalId":250544,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth National Radio Science Conference. The technique is based on generating a certain mathematical function derived from the wavelet parameters that can keep track of the energy changes along the speech duration. The problem in end points detection always appears in words that begin or end in low-energy phonemes. This problem can be entirely eliminated by this technique. Examples are given to show how the algorithm performs under different signal-to-noise ratios.","PeriodicalId":250544,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Sixteenth National Radio Science Conference.
