Heavy metal levels were generally low, when compared to existing permissible standard limits. Ranges for Iron, Manganese, Copper and Zinc were 400-1750 mgkg-1, 51.75-223.75mgkg-1, 12.01-92.75 mgkg-1 and 55-122.1mgkg-1 respectively. Chromium ranged from 1.15-2.53mgkg\", Nickel and lead ranged from 0.02-0.08mgkg and0.02-0.25 mgkg-1 respectively. Mineralogical results from the XRD revealed the dominance of quartz, followed by kaolinite with occasional occurrence of illite and wiserite. Trace amounts of Al-Si-Oxide(0.8%) was also found in the fine sand fraction at 18.2-18.9m depth at Uyoafaha. Infrared spectroscopy of the clay fraction also revealed the presence of quartz, kaolinite and lite as well as gibbsite and halloysite.","PeriodicalId":250072,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134528493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically the study analyzed lending and loan characteristics, constrants to repayment, repayment performance and compare repayment between crop and poultry farmers. Purposive and random sampling procedures were used to select 270 respondents using both primary and secondary data to accomplish the objectives. Data analyses included the use of mean, frequencies, percentages and \u0000the t-test. The study showed that the institution considered was characterized by untimely delivery of loan owing to complicated. Cumbersome and time consuming procedures in loan processing/ approval decision and amount of loan disbursed. The comparison between crop and poultry producers revealed that crop producers repaid their loan more than their poultry counterparts. The study recommended that timely disbursement policies that increase the accessibility of farmers to loan should be adopted and this would be an effective measure to aid flow of funds into the agricultural sector.","PeriodicalId":250072,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130143687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has necessitated the evaluation of new yam genotypes in multi-locational trials. Five new white yam genotypes were evaluated in different locations of major yam producing areas; Umudike, Nsukka, Ubiaja, Abuja and Katsina-Ala, to test the performance and stability of these genotypes across the environments using GGE bi-plot software. The GGE bi-plot generated several graphic bi-plots which showed Umudike, Nsukka, Ubiaja and Katsina-Ala belonging to one mega- environment while Abuja and Ubiaja belong to another. The GGE bi-plot also showed the discriminating and non-discriminating environments. Katsina-Ala was the most discriminating environment while Nsukka was the least. A test environment that lacks discriminating ability lacks the capacity to provide information about the genotype being used. Such environment lacks usefulness and should be discarded as a test environment Katsina-Ala, with the longest vector is the most discriminating. This is followed by Ubiaja, Umudike and Abuja in that order. Nsukka is the least discriminating.","PeriodicalId":250072,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"183 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115514156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data collected were analyzed using budgetary techniques and stochastic frontier production function analysis. Budgetary analysis reveals an average total cos/ha of 93350. S583.44) with N169,560 (S1,059.75) accrues to the farmer as revenue and N76210(S476.31) as gross margin with a net farm income of N70,710(S441.94). The rate of return and return per capital invested were N1.82 and N0.82 showing both viability and profitability of rubber- cassava farming. The Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE) of the parameters of the stochastic frontier production function of the sampled farmers revealed that planting materials, agrochemicals, labour and farm size were significantly related with cassava output. The mean technical efficiency (TE) of respondents' was 0.82 with the scope of improving their efficiency by 18%. Education and extension contact were the significant factors that increase the technical efficiency of farmers. The estimates of the parameters of stochastic cost frontier also showed that the cost of planting materials, agrochemicals, depreciation, cost of labour and output were significantly related with cost of production with mean allocative efficiency (AE) of 0.67. Age, education, farming experience and extension contact enhance the allocative efficiency of rubber farmers. The economic efficiency index ranged from 0.18 to 0.85 with the mean of 0.55 indicating wide differentials between the least and efficient farmer with the scope of improving economic efficiency among rubber farmers by 45% in the short-run. Recommendations to improve efficient allocation of resources in a rubber cassava based farming system have been made in the study in the study.","PeriodicalId":250072,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126188557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was carried out to analyse cassava value chain in Egbeda local government area of Oyo state, Nigeria. Primary data needed for the study were collected through the administration of questionnaires.  A total of 85 questionnaires were administered. Descriptive (Table and Frequency) and budgetary analysis was used.  Well-constructed questionnaires were administered to major actors in the chain (farmers/producers, marketers and processors.). The result revealed that there are three major cassava processed products in the study area; garri, cassava dough(fufu) and cassava chip (lafun).The result also revealed that females are more involved in the marketing(71.14% ) and processing(85.71% ) of cassava. Also most of the respondents were betweeen the age range of 31-50. The study also revealed that to every one tonne of fresh cassava 275000(garri), 34500 (wet fufu) and 45000(cassva chip) are produced respectively. While the average gross margin estimated for the producer/farmers was N706111. Also it was discovered that poor marketing information is a major challenge faced by the processors. It is therefore recommended that cassava processors should organize to form an association and a cooperative society to strengthen the marketing network.","PeriodicalId":250072,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116809804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experiment consisted of three (3) levels of poultry manure (0, 2.0 and 3.5 t/ha), three (3) levels of compost manure (0, 0.2 and 0.4 t/ha) and three (3) levels of NPK (0, 30 and 60 KgN/ha). Soybean was intercropped with sorghum as a nitrogen fixer in selected plots. The experiment was laid out in a Randomised Complete Block Design and replicated three (3) times. Soybean as nutrient source marginally enhanced organic matter and nutrients content in the soil. Poultry manure retains the highest concentration of OM and nutrients in the soil compared to compost and NPK fertilizer. Also, grain yield of sorghum was significant at (P<0.05) with manure and fertilizer application; NPK fertilizer at 60 kg N/ha in sorghum-legume mixture gave the highest yield (1035.0 kg/ha and 1138.4 kg/ha in 2016 and 2017 respectively). The lowest yield was obtained from non fertilizer treatments. The concentration of organic matter and plant nutrients elements in the soil and grain yield of sorghum were enhanced by addition of manure and fertilizer. Therefore, sustainable cultivation of sorghum is possible via the use of fertilizer, manure and a nitrogen fixer are used as soil amendments","PeriodicalId":250072,"journal":{"name":"Global Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114089072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
