Conventional consignment systems rely on conveyors and human operators who assemble the goods. In a new approach, a swarm of small automated guided vehicles (AGVs) is employed to collect items from storage shelves and take them to a picking station. A challenging issue connected with this approach is to provide efficient localization and tracking techniques in order to obtain the AGV's position at any point in time. In this paper the localization is realized by sensor fusion of wheel encoder data and range measurements obtained from an IEEE 802.15.4a CSS network. The choice of the filter algorithm is often crucial for the performance of the localization. For this reason this paper provides a comparison of three implementations of a Bayes Filter: the Extended Kalman Filter, Unscented Kalman Filter and the Particle Filter. Experimental results show how accurate position estimation can be performed by each of the filter algorithms.","PeriodicalId":249707,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 1st International Symposium on Wireless Systems (IDAACS-SWS)","volume":"156 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133314489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, determining the location of a mobile device is a very complex task. Various localization systems have been developed in the past but all have their strengths and weaknesses in certain environments. Compared to specialized devices, such as car navigation systems, smart phones are used in very diverse environments. Therefore this device class should utilize a wide range of localization methods to be able to determine its position in the majority of environments. The aim of this work is to develop an architecture for a smart phone that is able to integrate various types of positioning systems, such as GPS, optical- and radio-based systems, and built-in sensors. A prototypic application that integrates GPS, NFC, and QR codes and a step-detection, based on compass and acceleration sensors, was implemented to show the feasibility of the approach. The developed architecture can easily be extended by further localization systems in a universal manner.","PeriodicalId":249707,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 1st International Symposium on Wireless Systems (IDAACS-SWS)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125229061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the protocol implementations, however, up to now, mostly legacy engineering processes and technologies are used, and modern approaches such as model driven design processes or open software platform are disregarded. Therefore, within the WiMBex project, it shall be demonstrated that it is possible to develop a commercial class Wireless M-Bus implementation following state-of-the art design process and using TinyOS as an open source platform. In fact, these applications have different requirements than those of the broadcast video delivery systems: a low power consumption at the encoder side is essential. In this context, we propose a pixel-domain video coding scheme which fits well in these senarios. In this system, both the arithmetic and turbo codes are used to encode the video sequence's frames. Simulations results show significant gains over Pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv video coding.","PeriodicalId":249707,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 1st International Symposium on Wireless Systems (IDAACS-SWS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124592501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a pair of a generator and an analyser an extensive measurement campaign was carried out. A high-bay warehouse was chosen as a representative environment and an anechoic chamber was selected as a reference. In order to evaluate the transmission quality, the characteristics of the update time, the packet error rate and the packet loss rate were used as a metric. The specific transmission characteristics of 10 logical channels in the frequency ranges of 3.1 GHz to 4.8 GHz and 6.3 GHz to 8.0 GHz have been explored. For each logical channel eight different data rates and data lengths between 50 bytes and 500 bytes were taken into account. The different measurement scenarios are varying in distance and viewing conditions. Depending on the configuration, update times of less than 50 milliseconds at distances of up to 7m under non-line-of-sight conditions were measured.","PeriodicalId":249707,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 1st International Symposium on Wireless Systems (IDAACS-SWS)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132974569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, the required testing is omitted in many cases due to the complexity of creating test cases and experimental set ups. The VISA (Virtual IT Security Architectures) project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, aims to provide a simulation environment for semi-automated deployment experiments based on system models. Building Virtualized Security Appliances (VSA) is one part of the VISA project which offers the user the possibility to build and deploy secured virtual machine(s) and services within the model to improve it. Two of the developed VSAs are based on mobile scenarios to establish secure connections from an Android smartphone to an enterprise IT infrastructure. The approach of VISA is to implement such complex security systems much more easily within the basic configuration settings for small and medium enterprises (SME).","PeriodicalId":249707,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 1st International Symposium on Wireless Systems (IDAACS-SWS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121026300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
