IQ imbalance is one of the problems for the direct conversion receiver. In the direct conversion receiver, a pi/2 phase shifter and a double balance mixer (DBM) for the radio frequency (RF) signal is required. However, it is difficult to obtain the accurate phase shifter and the linear DBM over broad bandwidth. As a result, the balance between in-phase (I) and quadrature-phase (Q) of the demodulated signals may be lost. In the case of OFCDM modulations, this IQ imbalance causes intercarrier interference (ICI) in the demodulated signals. In this paper, the decision directed scheme for IQ imbalance compensation is proposed","PeriodicalId":248766,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130600907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To make smoothly connection with a base station (BS), time division duplex (TDD) systems using the reciprocity of uplink and downlink in the same frequency band is considered. If the coherence time is large compared with the duplexing time, TDD systems can provide the channel characteristics of uplink from that of downlink. Thus, the channel distortion can be compensated in advance as a pre-equalization at mobile terminals (MTs). The pre-equalization technique using zero-forcing equalization (ZFE) was proposed for the TDD/MC-CDMA system. The channel parameters obtained from the last pilot (LP) symbol in the downlink frame have the highest time correlations with the uplink channel parameters. Therefore, they can be used as the channel parameters of all the symbols in the following frame. However, when the coherence time is not so large compared with the duplexing time, it is expected that the system suffers from the channel mismatch by time-selective fading. In this paper, we propose a pre-equalization using MMSE channel prediction for TDD/MC-CDMA. As a derivation of the pre-equalization coefficients, we employ ZFE, controlled equalization (CE), and minimum mean square error equalization (MMSEE). One type of new schemes proposed for SDR is discrete time receiver (DTR), which processes analog signal directly. In the DTR architecture, the received signal is sampled at radio frequency (RF) and channel selection and demodulation are carried out in the digital domain. This architecture achieves reduction of on-chip components and enables one-chip receiver. However, in this architecture, the sampling jitter generated from phase noise of phase locked loop (PLL) may deteriorate the performance. In this paper, the phase noise of the PLL is modeled and the influence of the phase noise to the DTR is analyzed. The packet scheduling algorithm, which generates directional beams toward accessing users in accordance with the priority based on received signal-to-interference plus noise power ratio (SINR) have been proposed. However, the algorithm can generate few directional beams due to the increase of inter beam interference. As a result, the improvement of overall capacity is limited. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to increase total throughput by increasing the number of directional beams. In our algorithm, difference of angle and interference among directional beams are considered. It is shown that the proposed algorithm can increase the sector throughput by 13 % as compared to the conventional SINR-priority based algorithm. Moreover, we investigate the effect to take into account the channel quality and waiting time of each user in the proposed algorithm from the viewpoint of the sector throughput and the fairness of transmission slot assignment probability. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm with taking into account the received SINR averaged over the scheduled users improves the sector throughput by 5-10% as compared to the original proposed algorithm. It is also shown that, additionally taking into account the waiting time of the users, although the sector throughput is degraded by 12%, the number of users who have the transmission slot assignment probability of less than 0.1 is reduced by 26% compared to the original proposed algorithm","PeriodicalId":248766,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133798747","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed OVSF code allocation, OVSF codes which have different ancestor codes are allocated to users. If allocated codes are divided into chips shorter than spreading factor, chips which are produced by each allocated codes are orthogonal. In the two-stage combining method, the allocated code is divided into chips and received symbols are despread using chips. Demodulated symbols are produced from the despreading, multiplied by weights, and combined. The combining method of the proposed scheme has two stages. The first stage is the despreading, and the second stage is the weight combining. The proposed scheme uses few sub-carriers among which a difference of amplitude levels is small at the despreading, and combines demodulated symbols at the weight combining using suitable weights. Thus, the proposed scheme can reduce inter-code interference. A new distributed medium access control (MAC) protocol called CSTDMA (carrier sensing time division multiple access) and a modified PRMA (packet reservation multiple access) protocol are applied and their performance is compared against state-of-the-art MAC protocols. CSTDMA TDD employs a modified busy-tone broadcast/channel-sensing mechanism, while PRMA (packet reservation multiple access) employs a handshaking procedure. Results show significant improvements in system capacity and spectral-efficiency from the application of this novel approach compared to the state-of-the-art, especially with the CSTDMA TDD approach, which overall achieves the best performance, offering more than 3 to 4 times the capacity and system spectral-efficiency of the traditional methods","PeriodicalId":248766,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132541141","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An air-interface which uses TDD in combination with time division multiple access (TDMA) is assumed. Interference and resource reuse are important issues in hybrid networks. For this purpose analytical models for the reuse efficiency and a capacity bound of such a network are developed. These models are based on an exclusion range concept which is introduced to keep interference at an acceptable level. It is found that with this interference limiting measure, multi hop networks can benefit from a multi hop reuse gain compared to single hop networks. However, it is further found that this gain does not significantly increase for more than 5 hops. Furthermore, the pre-requisite for being able to exploit the multi hop reuse gain is a certain TS granularity. It was observed that with an increasing number of TS per frame, the mean and the variance of the number of supported hops increased almost linearly","PeriodicalId":248766,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116630969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
