The proposed method is compatible with online adaptation and robustness against diffuse noise by combining a semi-online diffuse noise reduction and an online MVBF adaptation technique with sparseness assumption of speech sources. The online sparseness based MVBF adaptation is sensitive to diffuse noise, because diffuse noise is not sparse. However, by using diffuse noise pre-filtering based on local Gaussian modeling which can be regarded as an optimized MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) diffuse noise reduction method from the probabilistic perspective, sparseness of the microphone input signal into the latter part is expected to be improved. The proposed method is evaluated by using speech signal under diffuse noise environments, and the proposed method can reduce more noise source with less distortion than the conventional online sparseness based MVBF adaptation.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123083563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Image processing is considered as bidimensional signal processing. Such images are the input of document analysis and recognition systems. Information extraction is one objective of document analysis and recognition systems. Textline extraction is a crucial step of such systems because its output is considered as the input of the recognition step. Most segmentation methods take as input binary images, which explains that binarization methods can affect segmentation results. We study in this paper how does the choice of binarization minimally affects the results of text-line segmentation methods? Several evaluation metrics are used for the comparison between segmentation results. The proposed approach is tested using the benchmarking databases IAM (about 556 images) and IAM historical (about 60 images). The results show that binarization affects the detection rate (DR) and the recognition accuracy (RA) metrics for segmentation evaluation.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"9 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120857732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However OFDM is affected by high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) conditions. A signal with high PAPR causes severe transmission problems due to the non linearity of high power amplifier (HPA) used at the transmitter end. One of the most promising methods proposed to reduce the PAPR consists of acting on the rotation phases of the OFDM symbols: this is known as the partial transmit sequence (PTS) method. Although this method achieves significant PAPR reduction, it requires an exhaustive search thus has a high computational complexity. To reduce this complexity, we propose in this paper a suboptimal algorithm based on distributed differential evolution algorithm (DDE) with self adaptation of the control parameters. The performance in PAPR reduction is close to that of the optimal case but with a significantly lower number of searches thus leading to a reduction in computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124922485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous methods were based only on signal features that were derived from the instantaneous frequency and energies of EEG signals in different spectral sub-bands. This paper includes new features that are based on T-F image descriptors which are extracted from the T-F representation considered as an image, using T-F image processing techniques. The results obtained on newborn EEG data, show that the use of image related-features with signal based-features improve the performance of the newborn EEG seizure detection and classification when using multi-SVM classifiers. These results allow the possibility of improving health outcomes for sick babies by early intervention on the basis of the results of the classification of newborn EEG abnormalities.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125333201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to estimate the location of a target in azimuth without specifically steering the beams at the target or using special techniques such as monopulse, simple centroid schemes can be used. This assumes that a target is seen by more than one beam, which requires the beam pattern to be somewhat overlapping and that the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of the target is sufficient. In this paper, a new azimuth centroid computation scheme using amplitude comparison is presented. Since the digital phased array beam shape is different at each azimuth, each beam is modeled by simple polynomial curve fitting. Simulation and preliminary experimental results show that the proposed method gives better azimuth accuracies compared to other centroid techniques.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122335947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal is to enable behind-the-wall target detection and localization from reduced data measurements. In the underlying problem, few frequency observations are available and they differ from one antenna position to another in a SAR imaging system. Because of using a different set of frequencies for different antennas, direct applications of wall clutter mitigation methods, such as subspace and spatial filtering, prove ineffective. To provide these methods with the response measured at the same set of frequencies, a compressive sensing approach is used to reconstruct the range profiles. We use prior knowledge of the wall standoff distance to speed up the convergence of the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit for sparse data reconstruction.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122377898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, statistical features are extracted from high frequency components of the analyzed images. The purpose is to classify normal versus abnormal images. Three different pathologies are considered including, circinates, drusens, and microaneurysms (MA). Support vector machines (SVM) with polynomial and radial basis function kernel are used to classify retina digital images. The simulation results from leave-one-out method (LOOM) show the effectiveness of the EMD-based features over the DWT-based ones. In addition, the polynomial kernel performs better than the radial basis function kernel.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122575145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes an identification approach based on the singular spectrum analysis (SSA) and least squares support vector machines (LS-SVM) model. The SSA is used in the pre-processing stage for de-noising the measurement data and then the LS-SVM model is trained by the de-noised data. The proposed approach was employed for identification of two nonlinear systems. The simulation results demonstrated the promising performance of the proposed approach and favorable capabilities of the SSA for nonlinear system identification.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"282 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122952679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PHD filter equations are derived under the assumption that the dynamics of the targets and associated observations follow a Hidden Markov Chain (HMC) model. HMC models have been recently extended to Pairwise Markov Chains (PMC) models. In this paper, we focus on multi-target filtering when targets and associated measurements follow a PMC model, and we extend the classical PHD filter to such models. We also propose a Gaussian Mixture (GM) implementation of our PMC PHD filter for linear and Gaussian PMC. Our approach enables to extend multi-object filtering to more general tracking scenarios, and also enables to deduce an estimate of the measurement associated to each target.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114256751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the originally proposed Reed-Solomon (RS) decoding algorithm was not well understood and the CRC decoder, introduced as an alternative, remains the most popular in literature today. Despite its simplicity, CRC decoders contain significant flaws which motivate us to investigate the potential of RS decoders. In this paper, we discuss the role of RS codes in Fuzzy Vault and details a Berlekamp-Massey decoder as originally envisioned. However, due to the significant amount of erasures in a RS code word in Fuzzy Vault leading to poor decoder performance, we propose instead an alternate decoder based on the Euclidean algorithm, which considers the original approach to RS codes. Our results show that the RS decoder can achieve decoding speed significantly greater than any CRC decoders while maintaining information-theoretic security, which are independent of advances in computing power. We also propose an improvement to the CRC decoder as a means to evaluate the security of a Fuzzy Vault and found that many existing implementations using CRC decoding are vulnerable to brute-force attacks.","PeriodicalId":248763,"journal":{"name":"2012 11th International Conference on Information Science, Signal Processing and their Applications (ISSPA)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114289739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
