Due to the large output capacitance that devices implementing BEs usually have, their dynamic response differs compared to a real battery which operates like a voltage source with a series resistance. This problem becomes particularly intense when the hardware under test (HUT) also has a large input capacitance. The intuitive solution proposed is to connect a series resistor between the BE and the HUT to replicate the battery series resistance. This paper describes the conditions that this resistor needs to follow in order to ensure stability. It is also shown that the limited bandwidth of the power device used to implement the BE is possible to bring the emulation into stability even if those conditions are violated. Finally, examples are given on how a low sampling frequency in the feedback loop cause oscillations. Simulations and experiments are used to demonstrate all the findings.","PeriodicalId":247794,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128945110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, such a machine can also operate with a single neutral point, which improves the fault-tolerant properties. When a machine is inverter supplied, low order harmonics may be present due to the low switching frequency and nonlinear inverter properties. Moreover, low order zero-sequence harmonics can be deliberately injected to increase dc bus voltage utilisation. This paper investigates a phenomenon that has not been reported so far in relation to asymmetrical multiphase machines with a single neutral point, namely that the presence of balanced low order harmonics in leg voltages produces unbalanced phase voltage harmonics and consequently unbalanced phase current harmonics. By analysing the neutral point (common mode) voltage harmonics, imbalance in the phase voltage harmonics is explained. Analytical expressions for neutral point voltage harmonics and phase voltage harmonics are provided for asymmetrical machine configurations with a single neutral point having arbitrary numbers of sub-windings and sub-winding phases. Theoretical considerations are verified using simulations and experiments with asymmetrical twelve- and nine-phase loads with a single neutral point, respectively.","PeriodicalId":247794,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126713166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All the components used for propulsion are employed in the charging process, no additional components are required, and there is no need for hardware reconfiguration between charging and propulsion modes of operation. The proposed solution can be connected directly to single-phase or three-phase grid to perform charging, so that the expensive off-board charger infrastructure is not needed. The only requirement is to use a nine-phase machine in combination with a nine-phase inverter in the powertrain of the EV. This however inevitably brings in further advantages in the propulsion mode, such as increased fault tolerance and the current subdivision into more phases. The benefits of the topology, originally developed for an induction machine, make it interesting for further investigation. Therefore, the performance of the charger is examined here using a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). The results show that the charger topology is applicable to other types of synchronous machines and is, even more importantly, independent of the angular spatial shift between the individual three-phase windings of the nine-phase machine's stator. The results are comparable with those obtained using an induction machine and confirm the viability of the solution in conjunction with the PMSM as a propulsion motor.","PeriodicalId":247794,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122510601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a consequence, the multi-modular bidirectional AC/AC power conversion architectures will play a major role in improving power flow controllability, power quality and availability. This paper proposes a new power converter topology suitable for AC/AC conversion in medium and high voltage applications, based on the matrix concept. The proposed topology combines the advantages of matrix converters with those of modular converters, providing high modularity and scalability, reduced weight and volume, minimum number of conversion stages and minimum energy storage. Galvanic isolation is provided at medium frequency, reducing size and cost of the transformer. The paper introduces the converter concept and commutation strategy and proposes a modified Venturini modulation in order to provide a per-switching cycle control of the Volt-Second balance across the transformer.","PeriodicalId":247794,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124556296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, cooling and humidification systems are essential parts of every Building Automation System (BAS), which is utilized in server rooms. Although the current climate control systems ensure appropriate thermal conditions to computational nodes such as servers, they waste substantial amount of energy. The main cause of this inefficiency is that the current climate control systems, which are responsible for thermal management of the data centres, follow rigid control strategies that maintain constant thermal conditions irrespective of climate changes caused by various computational loads in the plant. To address this issue, in our previous works we proposed a method of optimizing energy consumption in data centre cooling systems while maintaining an acceptable level of thermal comfort for CPUs in the server room. In this paper, we present the enhancement of our previous method by incorporating humidity control into it. The enhanced method consists of a thermal model of server room, and a simulation tool to find an energy efficient control strategy for the climate control system in different situations by comparing different control strategies. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been investigated via simulation and the result, which shows 41.5% reduction in total energy consumption is presented.","PeriodicalId":247794,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128961510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The haptic data is used as the data of human motion for motion reproduction system. However, realization of tasks by using multi DoF robots as a motion reproduction system is still difficult. In this paper, in order to realize support for surgeons by automatic motion, needle insertion is realized by the haptic surgical robot composed of multi DoF haptic forceps robots. The control scheme has a cascade architecture, where the inner loop uses a finite set model predictive control scheme (FS-MPC) for the electrical subsystem, and the outer loop uses a dead-beat model predictive control for the mechanical subsystem. Due to the discrete nature of the control platform an accurate discrete model of the systems is necessary. As conventional method, back-EMF detecting method by using phase lock loop (PLL) is used. This method uses the nature that back-EMF of γ-axis is related to estimated angular error. As usual, back-EMF of d-axis is zero in the case of using position sensor. To compensate estimated angular error becomes zero, PLL is used. However, this method assumes that estimated angular error is very small so that PLL is not able to deal with sudden disturbance. In this paper, back-EMF detection method by using back-EMF estimation observer (BEOB) is proposed. Proposed method is able to derive not only estimated angle error but also estimated angular velocity directly. To estimate angular velocity correctly, disturbance observer (DOB) is able to be applied, and robust angular velocity control can be achieved. Then, validation under change of back-EMF constant is conducted with experiments. Back-EMF constant changes due to parameter error and environmental temperature. Therefore, comparison of PLL, method and proposed method under change of back-EMF constant is conducted. Validity of proposed method was confirmed by experiments.","PeriodicalId":247794,"journal":{"name":"IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123017333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
