While this technique can be used to authenticate radios accessing a secure network, the security of the authentication can be enhanced if the transmitter fingerprint changes based on the transmitted data. This paper uses simulations and measurements to examine the behavior of a data-dependent filter response designed for such an application. The results show that the circuit holds promise for providing a data-dependent fingerprint useful for device authentication.","PeriodicalId":247495,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121193289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two separated 2×2 end-fire dipole array antennas in different (z-y and z-x) planes are configured in a multi-stacked substrate module. For x-direction, z-y plane array antenna is used and for y-direction, z-x plane array antenna is used. In order to achieve higher antenna gain at intermediate region between x and y directions, hetero-plane beam synthesis is employed using two array antennas in different (z-y and z-x) planes. Measured radiation patterns are in agreement with simulated radiation patterns and wider 10 dBi beam coverage area of 150° in azimuth and 60° in elevation is obtained. The results show the effectiveness of proposed hetero-plane beam synthesis.","PeriodicalId":247495,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121498703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents an adaptive RF canceller used to improve isolation. The canceller is configured as an RF tapped delay line with four taps, each with independent amplitude and phase weights that are tuned by a Dithered Linear Search algorithm. This canceller produces 30 dB of signal cancellation over a 30 MHz bandwidth centered at 2.45 GHz in an isolated environment. When combined with a high-isolation antenna, an overall STAR system isolation of 90 dB is achieved, while also maintaining omni-directional transmit and receive antenna patterns.","PeriodicalId":247495,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124982457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly an optimization problem is formulated to minimize the overall outage probability under the constraint of energy limitations due to energy harvesting. Further the problem is approximated and then simplified into a geometric programming problem, based on which the simple power allocation and its corresponding best-relay selection scheme is developed. Simulation results verify the outage performance gain of the developed scheme.","PeriodicalId":247495,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121757259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper explores problems of deploying Forward Error Correction (FEC) in wireless commercial standards such as IEEE 802.11b and 802.15.4. First, we describe battery life estimation that includes practical factors such as system issues and the negative impact by retransmissions vs. power impact by overhead of encoding schemes. Secondly, we explore the link to design economics and demonstrate a design decision method. Theoretical analyses validated with simulations provide a decision tool for engineers and management during system design. Different from previous unfavorable usage in FEC, we show that for cyber-physical devices FEC should be now strongly considered under proper circumstances, as it provides the opportunity for saving communications-related energy for prolonged battery life, which is critical for devices in hard-to-reach locations and battlefield.","PeriodicalId":247495,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117289072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When this pulse stream is used for localization, system accuracy is limited by the reconstructed pulse signal to noise ratio (SNR). In this paper, the jitter effects from transmitter and receiver on reconstructed pulse are simulated and an improvement technique based on digital correlation technique for increasing reconstructed signal SNR is proposed. The slotted patch effectively provides two degrees of freedom for achieving the same operating frequency. These are the patch and the slot lengths. An equation is reached to determine the operating frequency of the antenna, verified to be accurate to within 1% for various patch and slot dimensions. Also, the effect of the feed-line end position with reference to the slotted patch is studied and results are reported. In this work, we present the characterization of liquid crystal polymer from 110 GHz to 170 GHz. The microstrip ring resonator method is used for the relative permittivity and loss tangent extraction at mm-wave frequencies. The effect of radiation loss in the extraction of loss tangent is analyzed through full electromagnetic 3D models to verify that radiation loss can be neglected for the particular geometry under study. The Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis is used to analyze the uncertainty of the method taking into account the uncertainty of each measurement involved in the characterization. Using a frequency dispersive model for the effective permittivity for the microstrip, the relative permittivity of LCP is extracted to be 3.17 and the loss tangent varies from 0.0055 to 0.009. This work is the first to characterize the liquid crystal polymer in D-band.","PeriodicalId":247495,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128155105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
