It provides substantial information about cogeneration units. Development of cogeneration units has experienced an evident boom over the recent years. These are significant sources of both heat and electric power. That is the reason for seeking the fastest and the cheapest method to design a cogeneration unit with optimal performance. The fastest and still the cheapest method is modelling, as desribed by this article. This power quality disturbance can be induced by several root causes such as short circuits, transformer energizing, or due to the start-up of large electrical loads. The aim of this study was to develop a classifier which is able to automatically identify the probable root cause of a VD based on characteristic features contained within its corresponding RMS voltage curve. To this aim, mathematical functions were fitted through the characteristic section of VD RMS measurements. These measurements were obtained from the real-life distribution network. Subsequently, the coefficients of the fitting functions served as features for supervised pattern recognition schemes. In this study, 4 classifiers were developed and compared. The proposed approaches provided effective identification of VD root causes. As a result, frequent power disconnections and blackout heavily affect the quality of supply of end-users. Oppositely, the renewable energy sources exploitation in supplying portions of the distribution network during system disconnections is very interesting, both for reducing fossil fuel use and as backup power generator. In case the islanded local electrification makes use of discontinuous and unpredictable energy sources such as photovoltaic, a Battery Energy Storage System is required to regulate the system, supplying power balance and voltage stability. In the paper, a stand-alone distribution network, corresponding in size to a typical Libyan oasis-village, has been developed and analysed. A photovoltaic generator locally supplies the islanded network, while an integrated BESS provides the daily energy balance and the system stability. The research examines the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, developed with the scope of coordinating the role of both the solar generation and the energy storage system in facing active and reactive power requirements of the connected loads. Specific algorithms are introduced to define the optimal electrical operating condition in terms of voltage and frequency. Power system simulations demonstrate the control strategy strengths in terms of stability and time of response. Quality of supply, evaluated in terms of frequency deviations and voltage profiles, remains considerably high also considering different scenarios and introducing quick load variations. The developed methodology allowed to know the dynamic behavior that some common fertilizer causes on the electrical resistance measurements of the soil under study. The applied method is noninvasive, i.e., a non-destructive method that does not change the soil structure. The Loss of Load Expectation (LOLE) is one such metric. But despite its popularity, it is also known that it is complicated to compute when considering transmission line outages, limiting its general applicability in transmission system related operations like planning and market regulation. In this paper, we introduce the concept of Transmission Congestion Expectation (TCE) as a performance metric that estimates the expected number of hours in a year that a power transmission system experiences line overloading due to the unexpected outage of transmission lines. It is similar to the LOLE but requires significantly lesser data and computational resource. We present the steps in calculating this metric and for illustration purposes, we then demonstrate how this metric can be used in transmission expansion planning. The proposed system aims to reduce the reliance on nonrenewable energy sources and emphasizes the importance of green energy as a main source of energy. Furthermore, it introduces responsiveness of the loads to trigger demand response. This paper will cover the development of the proposed system, and design a simple residential nanogrid as part of the operating system of the solar system. Moreover, it will cover the initial load calculations, energy calculations for sizing suitable battery storage and PV arrays, and define the electric structure of the nanogrid. The conformal mapping is used to lead the eccentric domain into the concentric domain, since the usual models correspond to concentric geometries. This vehicle is named FeelHippo, and it is an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) purposely developed to participate to the 2013 edition of the Student Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge-Europe (SAUC-e, http://sauc-europe.org/) organized by the NATO-STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), La Spezia, Italy. SAUC-e 2013 has been a good test field for the preliminary testing of the AUV capabilities and FeelHippo ranked third in the competition.
