We describe the case of a male newborn of gestational age 39 weeks whose primary and repeated blood cultures and cerebrospinal fluid samples isolated MRS. The choice and duration of antibiotic therapy were determined by the clinical presentation, infection parameters, and results of bacteriological analyses of blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples obtained from the newborn on the day 5 of life. After 28 days of antibiotic therapy for sepsis accompanied by meningitis, the newborn was discharged home without sequelae.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133013145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previously, double-port VATS lobectomy has been used for the resection of T4 tumours. This current case report presents a 68-year-old male that presented with a productive cough of 3 months' duration, associated with fever, chest pain and loss of body weight. He was haemodynamically stable. The patient underwent surgery under general anaesthesia using a uniportal VATS (UVATS) approach. A 2-cm incision was made in the mid-axillary line through the right 5th intercostal space with no rib spreading. The tumour was put into a specimen bag, cut into pieces and then removed via the mouth of the bag using a grasper. After good haemostasis, a single chest drain was placed and the small incision was sutured in layers. The postoperative course was uneventful and no complications were observed. On the 6th day postoperative, the patient was discharged home. This current case demonstrated that UVATS resection for T4 tumours might be a viable approach in the hands of skilled surgeons. It should also provide decreased postoperative pain, faster recovery and shorter hospitalization.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133061077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The novel lncRNA DEPDC1 antisense RNA 1 (DEPDC1-AS1) was recently associated with poor prognosis in triple-negative breast cancer and lung adenocarcinoma. However, its role in regulating the malignant progression of gastric cancer (GC) and its molecular mechanism are unclear. We herein explored the functions of DEPDC1-AS1 in GC progression. Methods DEPDC1-AS1 expression and prognosis in GC tissues were examined by bioinformatics analysis and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. The DEPDC1-AS1 function in GC cells was explored by the cell counting kit-8 assay, colony formation assay, Transwell assay, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling, 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine-incorporation, and the xenograft tumor model. The DEPDC1-AS1 and human antigen (Hu)R interaction was determined by RNA pull-down and RNA immunoprecipitation. Results DEPDC1-AS1 was overexpressed in GC tissues and cell lines, and associated with a worse prognosis in GC patients. In vitro and in vivo assays showed that DEPDC1-AS1 promoted HGC-27 cell proliferation and migration. Mechanistically, DEPDC1-AS1 served as a scaffold by combining with HuR to target the specific mRNA F11R. Conclusion DEPDC1-AS1 plays a crucial role in GC development and progression and is a potential biomarker for the early detection or prognosis of GC.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128922338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data of 74 patients with low rectal cancer who were treated with prophylactic transverse colostomy (Group A, n = 34) or without prophylactic transverse colostomy (Group B, n = 40). Surgery-related indicators, nutritional status indicators, systemic stress response indicators, and complications were compared between the two groups. Results On postoperative day 5, the C-reactive protein concentration and white blood cell count were not significantly different between the two groups; however, the serum concentrations of total protein and albumin were higher in Group A than in Group B. Within 26 months postoperatively, the total incidence rate of complications was not significantly different, but the incidence rate of anastomotic leakage was lower in Group A than in Group B. Conclusion Prophylactic transverse colostomy based on CLAPISR can lead to faster recovery of gastrointestinal function, better improvement of postoperative nutritional indicators, and a lower incidence of anastomotic leakage. These characteristics are conducive to the rapid recovery of patients, making this procedure worthy of clinical application.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123011650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods This retrospective case–control study enrolled patients that underwent TKA. Visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores, sleep disturbance, additional opioid consumption and incidence of opioid-related side-effects were assessed. Results A total of 120 patients were categorized into three groups: EPCA (group A, n = 40), PAI (group B, n = 40) and CFNB (group C, n = 40). Group C had significantly lower VAS pain scores than groups A and B at 8, 12 and 24 h after TKA. There were no significant differences in VAS pain scores among the three groups from 48 h after TKA. Sleep quality on the first day after surgery was significantly better in group C than in groups A and B. Additional opioid consumption was significantly lower in the group C than in the groups A and B. Group C showed a lower rate of opioid-related side-effects than groups A and B. Conclusion CFNB was a more effective additional analgesic technique than EPCA or PAI for acute postoperative pain control within 24 h of TKA.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131048740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods In vivo tumour xenograft anticancer assays were undertaken to confirm the anticancer activity of PL. Cell viability, flow cytometry and Western blot assays were undertaken to evaluate the anticancer effects of PL, VC and combinations of PL and VC in AGS and KATO III cells. Results Both PL and VC induced apoptosis and inhibited cell proliferation in AGS and KATO III cells. These effects were dependent on reactive oxygen species (ROS). PL effectively suppressed STAT3 activation while VC caused abnormal activation of STAT3. The combination of PL and VC exhibited a stronger apoptotic effect compared with either agent alone. PL reversed the abnormal activation of STAT3 by VC, which could be a key to their synergistic effect. Conclusions PL combined with VC exhibited a stronger anticancer effect by regulating the ROS–STAT3 pathway, suggesting that this combination might be a potential adjuvant therapy for gastric cancer.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116832041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods This study retrospectively analyzed 559 patients with thyroid nodules and collected thyroid pathological images and auxiliary examination results (laboratory and ultrasound results) to construct datasets. The pathological image dataset was used to train a ResNet50 model, the text dataset was used to train a random forest (RF) model, and a DS ensemble model was constructed from the results of the two models. The differential diagnostic values of the three models for PTC and other types of thyroid nodules were then compared. Results The DS ensemble model had the highest sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (85.87%, 97.18%, 93.77%, and 0.982, respectively). Conclusions Compared with Resnet50 and the RF models trained only on imaging data or text information, respectively, the DS ensemble model showed better diagnostic value for PTC.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123105591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In severe cases, it can quickly progress to serious complications such as heart failure, shock and respiratory failure. Laboratory examinations can show an increase of myocardial injury markers, infection and inflammatory indicators. Cardiac ultrasound can detect the weakening of the myocardial contraction and valve regurgitation. On imaging, bilateral pulmonary oedema demonstrates symmetrical infiltration along the hilum of lung, called the “butterfly shadow”. This current case report describes a patient with unilateral pulmonary oedema caused by myocarditis that was initially misdiagnosed and treated as pneumonia. The patient was subsequently treated with the application of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and he made a full recovery. A review of this case highlights that when a patient’s symptoms are not typical, a comprehensive examination and evaluation are required to avoid incorrect treatment.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115338382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods Three hundred eleven patients with acute poisoning who were admitted to a hospital in China between October 2017 and February 2019 were included in the development group. Eighty patients with acute poisoning who were admitted between February and May 2019 were included in the validation group. The independent risk factors for deep venous thrombosis were examined. An individualized predictive model was developed using regression coefficients. Results The number of catheter indwelling days, having a catheter while being transported, elevated serum homocysteine concentrations, and dyslipidemia were independent risk factors for deep venous thrombosis following hemoperfusion in patients with acute poisoning. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the development and validation groups were 0.713 and 0.702, respectively, which suggested that the prediction model had good discrimination capacity. The calibration belts of the two groups were ideal. Conclusions Our prediction model has a moderate predictive effect for the occurrence of deep venous thrombosis in patients with acute poisoning. In clinical practice, this model could be combined with a common thrombosis risk assessment model.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129607876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Atrial tachycardia during swallowing was documented on electrocardiography and 24-hour Holter monitoring. No structural heart disease or esophageal disorders were found by echocardiography. The patient then underwent an electrophysiological study and catheter ablation. We mapped the left atrium with a multipolar mapping catheter while the patient swallowed bread and found that the earliest endocardial breakthrough was on the left anterior superior atrium, where the left superior ganglionated plexus was located. We successfully eliminated the paroxysmal atrial tachycardia at this site. Interestingly, in the process of ablation, atrioventricular node reentrant tachycardia was triggered. After the slow-pathway ablation procedure, no further tachycardia was induced.","PeriodicalId":245557,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of International Medical Research","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130295834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
