Our main question is: how well do current approaches support the design of concurrency and non-functional system features like the specification of allocation, timing and fault tolerance constraints? In order to demonstrate our approach, we consider two extremes: Ada 95 and our own real-time language Deal. It is shown that our taxonomy is well suited to discern essential properties of such languages and to point out the weaknesses of contemporary approaches.","PeriodicalId":244671,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133159466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a systematic tool supported approach, that bases its suggestions an the technical situation, the existing goals, and constraints of a specific organization or a particular project. A prototype of the decision support system supports the elaboration of test strategies. The approach uses information about the technical situation that is provided by answering predefined questions with fuzzy data. The objective is to assign \"adequacy values\" to combinations of test methods, techniques, metrics, tools, and quantified test situations. The priorities of goals and constraints have assessed by applying a technique that is based on comparing goals in pairs. This permits to check certain consistency criteria by static analysis. A hierarchy of the importance of goals and constraints is calculated, which provides the basis for the determination of the suitability of test methods; techniques, metrics, and tools with respect to goals and constraints.","PeriodicalId":244671,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116478405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper presents a conceptual framework for use case modelling and a new use case model with graphical representation, including support for different abstraction levels and mechanisms for managing large use case models. Current application of use cases in requirements engineering is discussed, as well as ontological and methodological issues related to use case modelling.","PeriodicalId":244671,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130252555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, the problems are solved by humans. For some very seldom occurring subproblems e.g. developing a patient management plan for the acute radiation syndrome, or for routine problems, e.g. report generation in laboratory medicine for 95% of the cases, knowledge-bases could perform the task more efficiently than humans. An architecture for medical knowledge-based assistance systems is presented allowing for the co-operation of physicians and knowledge-bases to efficiently solve medical problems. The collaboration is obtained by applying a cognitive problem-solving model implemented on a blackboard control architecture. The architecture has been prototypically implemented and partially evaluated for the medical management of the acute radiation syndrome and in laboratory medicine.","PeriodicalId":244671,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117123339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The techniques applied during all stages of design stem from a local time concept: a system-wide global clock is utilized neither as an abstract model launching specifications nor as some obligatory, application-independent synchronization of local clocks completing implementations. After a description of the method encompassing environment specification, system functional specification, logical structure description, prototyping, and implementation, a brief survey relates the method to current theory and practice. The core part of the paper deals with an application example concerning a dispenser with a counter/controller for a petrol pumping station, which is safety critical because of the danger of explosion in the case of uncontrolled petrol flow and, also, loss of money in the case of unregistered flow.","PeriodicalId":244671,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131207885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is proposed that change analysis should be an integral part of the entire development process so that change can be handled in a better-informed way with the associated risks being made apparent. Sensitivity analysis is proposed as the principal means of predicting two categories of hazard: which requirements are unstable and which design areas are most susceptible to changes in requirements. Impact analysis supports the decision-making process concerning the implementation of changes, and is also used to predict the impact of potential change for the assessment of risk. The paper considers what information is needed to enable sensitivity and impact analysis to provide an effective means of change analysis and what methods provide such information, emphasising the importance of traceability and the capture of design rationale. Because the potential for change would be made apparent early in the lifecycle the outcome should be a substantial contribution towards the goal of minimising the adverse impact of changing requirements on the project objectives.","PeriodicalId":244671,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133183594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Task models usually produced during the requirements engineering process are derived basically from an analysis of the the users' individual tasks. Consequently, some major usability problems in interactive tasks performing arise from a lack of the organisational context modelling. The TOCO (task organisational context) model is proposed and then an example of context modelling using TOCO is presented.","PeriodicalId":244671,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings IEEE Symposium and Workshop on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115193752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
