There was a statistical association between women from the metropolitan region, in the age group of 20 to 34 years and who had previously given birth. Mothers who had a potentially life threatening condition presented a higher chance of having a child with Apgar <7 in the fifth minute and weigh of less than 1,500g.  Conclusion:  the use of blood products prevailed, followed by severe preeclampsia and eclampsia. A strong relation was identified between the origin, parity and potentially life threatening conditions, as well as between these and negative perinatal outcomes.","PeriodicalId":243005,"journal":{"name":"Northeast Network Nursing Journal","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130816932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out with 106 medical records of people who died in an intensive care unit, obtaining sociodemographic and clinical variables. Analysis made using Pearson’s chi-square test, Fisher’s test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: most of the patients were male (80.2%), in the age group from 18 to 39 years, average age of 39.7 years, 81.6% dark-skinned, 60.4% were single and 62.5% unemployed. The proportion of patients who were unemployed (p=0.002) and who did not use antiretroviral therapy (p<0.001) were the ones that had the least regular health care. Conclusion: most of the patients in the study did not follow regular health care and did not use antiretroviral therapy.","PeriodicalId":243005,"journal":{"name":"Northeast Network Nursing Journal","volume":"6 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134532980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: this is a qualitative research carried out with nine nursing workers from a pediatric emergency roomat a federal public university hospital. The data were produced by the focus group and submitted to content thematic analysis. Results: nursing workers reported the need for emotional and affective removal from work,children and families, as well as support in the sense of “fulfilled duty” to avoid suffering. They also search for family, leisure, spirituality/religiosity, psychotherapy and support of the work team for the maintenance of well-being and mental health inside and outside the work environment. Conclusion: detachment, rationalization and the search for spaces of refuge appear as individual defensive strategies, while the collaboration and cohesion of the collective of workers represent collective defense strategies.","PeriodicalId":243005,"journal":{"name":"Northeast Network Nursing Journal","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134237492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results: 45.7% reported some delay in care during the child’s hospitalization. There was satisfaction with the communication of information about the patient (88.6%), visit time (75.7%), cleaning of the environments (75.7%), but 65.7% did not know where to make complaints or suggestions and 44.3% did not know the name of the professional who would see their child. Methods: a qualitative study implementing a theoretical and methodological contribution of Grounded Theory. Results: weakness in nurses’ training regarding the death-dying process, the importance of the nurse-patient bond, family members support, and respect for the grieving process isapparent. As coping strategies, ongoing education, sharing experiences with peers and attachment to spiritual beliefs can be emphasized. Empathy appears as the main challenge, considering the influence of personal and bureaucratic factors.
