ICI can be diminished with the assistance of any pulse that complies the 1st Nyquist criterion. In addition, pulses matched between the transmitter and receiver are required in order to synchronize the OFDM symbols. In this work, the improved double-jump 2 (IDJ2) pulse is introduced in overall OFDM schemes prone to frequency offset Following a heuristic approach, the sub-optimum IDJ2 pulse is found in a representative system configuration. For diverse signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), normalized frequency offsets, and subcarrier modulation formats, the proposed pulse is analytically and numerically contrasted with the most recent and best performing Nyquist-I pulses for the first time. Results demonstrate the superiority of the IDJ2 pulse regarding the other pulses in terms of the bit error rate (BER).","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122203382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mobility of the cognitive radios presents a challenge because they recognize just a part of the network, ignoring other secondary or primary users behavior, except in the centralized architecture. The cooperative networks appear as an alternative to share information between users allowing the detection of primary network users, with the main objective of not affecting the network of the operators. This work shows the results of applying cooperative energy detection in mobile cognitive radio networks using software-defined radio equipment showing an improvement over the individual detection.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129813840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the smartphone, considered as the ultimate IoT device, plays a key-role in this environment. These appliances that initially had limited functionality, nowadays are charged with a full set of sensors and capabilities. Service Providers and development companies encourage their community to take advantage of these embedded hardware components through the creation and deployment of mobile applications and thus, offering new services and enhancing user experience. However, to do so, this kind of applications gathers personal data from direct or indirect interaction, most of the times without awareness from the user.We performed a qualitative study by conducting semi-structure interviews with participants from different backgrounds, in order to understand user’s perception regarding trust in IoT Mobile Applications. With a grounded theory analysis, we concluded that not only people should be recognized as the central entity of any system that seeks the collection of their personal data, but also that trust in IoT technology depends on who controls and has access to it. We believe these results contribute for further application development, concerning the construction of new privacy models and user experience.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131559793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast, in the Internet of Things (IoT), devices or things communicate among them. However, these devices are usually constrained in terms of processing, storage, batteries, and transmission power. Such limitations have led to reconsider the use of widely used protocols on Internet and to create new protocols designed to constrained scenarios. Although, HTTP, one of the well-known and most used on the Internet application layer protocol, was not designed for constrained scenarios; currently, it is highly used on the IoT. Considering this, it is necessary to adapt the protocol to the restricted scenarios to achieve its properly work with an acceptable performance. In this work, we took HTTP/2, the most recent version of the protocol, as a basis to propose a flow control algorithm oriented to IoT. Through mathematical modeling and simulations, we compare our proposal with another generic and not IoT-oriented flow control algorithm for HTTP/2, NGHTTP/2. The results showed that the proposed algorithm decreased overhead between 25% and 69% in all scenarios. In terms of throughput the results were mixed, in two of three scenarios the reference algorithm was between 3% and 13% faster. In the remaining scenario the throughput was very similar.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127873918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Processing the underwater acoustic signals using methods such as MPM for its complex natural resonance extraction can be an effective but challenging way for identification of these ships. In this paper, we show that in the presence of a stable medium, it is possible to determine the principal frequency components related ships in a classification process. The analysis was developed using 30 signals of a cargo vessel ship, 66 of a frigate and 69 of a subchaser. Results show that the total averages of the poles of the ships are in specific regions of the plane, however, the analysis of the imaginary quantities of the complex natural resonances may bring a better insight for the identification process.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131138589","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
