This proposal provides special attention to the Display Authenticated Association (DAA) protocol, defined within the IEEE 802.15.6 Standard as a secure and resilient association procedure against Man-in-the-Middle attacks. Up-to-date different contributions have analyzed theoretically the vulnerabilities of the rest of the association protocols, especially the Password Authenticated Association (PAA). This paper studies and evaluates the phases involved in the DAA protocol and presents the outcome from the assessment of the possible vulnerabilities. For this research, we developed a specific software-based scenario to contrast the affirmations stated in the Standard and evaluate the possible solutions to avoid Man-in-the-Middle or Impersonation Attacks during the association phase.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121939122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Smart cities, autonomous machines and agriculture applications are some examples of these systems working in different fields. These systems run several applications that we want to handle in a simple way. There are several approaches for application management and deployment: containers, virtualization and package manager are some examples. In order to monitor the performance of these systems, we evaluated the impact of the package manager method in an embedded systems test bench. We presented an experiment using an 8 NVIDIA Jetson TX1 cluster with Nix package manager and Jacobi Benchmark, showing that this method has a negligible impact performance on execution time against its native version.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125513886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This obstruction negatively impacts the ability of road safety systems based on vehicular communications to detect neighboring vehicles into the cross road from the intersection. Typically, these obstructions lead to communication degradation, due to the severe signal attenuation. In this paper, we propose an efficient and robust retransmission mechanism based on the distance of the vehicle to the intersection, increasing the probability of successful packets delivery, as well as the warning range and the corresponding notification time needed by road safety systems. We demonstrate that the proposed retransmission mechanism outperforms the classic retransmission mechanisms in terms of the required channel capacity, by reducing the channel's load in a 50% and a 30%, when the transmissions are originated in the nearest zones from the intersection.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133764327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Non-coherent receivers achieve data detection without the overhead and computational complexity required by pilot-based reception mechanisms. Additionally, difference modulation has some interesting properties of invariance that may be used against Doppler shifts and Carrier Frequency Offset. That is why, having an analytical approximation of the probability of error in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) will be very useful. In this work, Chernoff Boundaries are proposed for an autocovariance receiver, which are easily scalable to any order of difference modulation. Also, the upper bound proposed could be calculated even when there is diversity at the receiver, that could be in time, frequency or space.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114226404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We want to fully understand the behavior of cancellations in mass sales channels with the retention tasks performed inside the company. As a proposal to increase the retention of customers calling to cancel, a logistic regression model and a decision tree model were used on real data through the CRISP-DM methodology. After comparing the models, the logistic regression model gives better results since its accuracy of prediction is 87.21%; this allows us to propose strategies to increase the customer retention rate.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131342434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the basic components of this new paradigm is machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, since they guarantee the interaction between the devices. One characteristic of M2M scenarios is the presence of many devices communicating with each other. This, along with the fact that communication is carried out through shared channels, causes the need to use medium access control (MAC) protocols. These guarantee the orderly and efficient use of the channel. In this paper, the performance of three well known MAC protocols; Slotted Aloha, FASA, and DPCF are evaluated through simulations. Results indicate that DPCF outperforms the other two protocols in terms of goodput and energy consumption. These advantages are achieved at the expense of increasing the complexity of the channel access mechanism compared to the complexity of Slotted Aloha and FASA.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127814621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our visual representation of IoT systems aims to facilitate the identification of the IoT attack surface and the vulnerabilities that an attacker may exploit. The paper first outlines the basic visual elements and the associated grammar, which are then applied to a series of smart home IoT use cases to demonstrate how these can be used to represent these networks and their cybersecurity requirements in a visual and intuitive way. The motivation behind this work is to improve our ability to reason about IoT attack surfaces towards improving our defense capabilities for those systems.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121071594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This tool automates the movement of the vehicle by controlling the steering of wheels. Currently, validations that demonstrate the benefits of the use of CTF in crops are unknown. Therefore, this research presents a methodological proposal to validate the performance of CTF using GNSS-RTK signal. This test was deployed during an operation period of twelve hours. The outcomes show a decrease in the harvester guiding error. In this way, the study validated the improvement in performance with the use of the CTF with GNSS-RTK signal in sugarcane harvesting works in the geographical valley of Cauca River. Due to the evident advantages using this methodology, it is suggested to replicate the study presented in different conditions of sugarcane crops, in order to characterize the behavior of harvest using guide lines.","PeriodicalId":241906,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE Colombian Conference on Communications and Computing (COLCOM)","volume":"253 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131686176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
