In view of the problem of the unbalanced development of China's digital economy, and to construct an indicator system for the level of digital economic development. The study is based on the panel data of 30 provinces (Tibet is not included in the study due to missing data) from 2013 to 2021, and comprehensively utilizes the entropy method, the Tyrell index and the Moran index method, the regional level of China's digital economic development is measured. And based on this, it further reveals the regional differences in China's digital economic development and the dynamic evolution characteristics of source and distribution. The purpose of this study is to provide practical experience and effective measures for promoting the coordinated development of digital economy in various regions and narrowing the regional digital divide. The study shows that the level of China's digital economy development has been increasing, and the digital economy has become the main engine of national economic development. The development of China's digital economy shows significant positive spatial dependence, spatial agglomeration and regional imbalance, and the development of the digital economy faces the problem of digital divide. The regional differences in the level of China's digital economy development are mainly due to inter-regional differences, and there is a trend of gradual reduction. There is also a certain degree of ups and downs in the process of regional digital economy development, and its spatial heterogeneity and convergence characteristics need to be further studied.","PeriodicalId":241760,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Environmental Economics","volume":"106 32","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141821790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bananas and pineapples are two widely grown fruits in Cameroon for income, employment, and foreign earnings. Cameroon remains an important global player in the banana trade. To boost production, identifying important factors that drive the supply response of such crops is an important policy question. Here, we ask if non-price factors are important determinants of supply response of such horticultural crops, a question that has received very little attention. The objective of this study is thus to estimate the effect of non-price factors on the supply response of bananas and pineapples. To do this, a Nerlovian response function is directly estimated via an Error correction model using time series data, to capture long-run dynamics of production and supply. The results show that non-price factors such as rainfall, temperature, and land are the major drivers of the supply response of both crops. The effects of these factors, however, vary with the crops. We provide plausible explanations why non-price factors are salient. Our results suggest that improving the timely availability of weather and climate information, and input subsidies are possible areas for policy interventions.","PeriodicalId":241760,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Environmental Economics","volume":"29 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141684614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It singles out the international resort enterprise for its unmatched yet dormant potential to deliver transformational insights into borders-blind linkages and relationships shaped by evolutionary and ecological forces and interwoven in the marvel and fragility of our living planet. This move is corroborated with analyses of the latent economic power of wonder embedded in the natural world's infinite connectivity and is emboldened in its promise via comparisons with the ever-grander ambition of science philanthropy and eco-philanthropy. Resource-rich developing countries are particularly affected, as they have a higher risk of asset stranding due to strong fossil dependencies and wider societal consequences beyond revenue disruption. However, there is only little academic and political awareness of the challenge to manage the asset stranding in these countries, as research on transition risk like asset stranding is still in its infancy. We provide a research framework to identify wider societal consequences of fossil asset stranding. We apply it to a case study of Nigeria. Analyzing different policy measures, we argue that compensation payments come with implementation challenges. Instead of one policy alone to address asset stranding, a problem-oriented mix of policies is needed. Renewable hydrogen and just energy transition partnerships can be a contribution to economic development and SDGs. However, they can only unfold their potential if fair benefit sharing and an improvement to the typical institutional problems in resource-rich countries, such as the lack of rule of law, are achieved. We conclude with presenting a future research agenda for the global community and academia.","PeriodicalId":241760,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Environmental Economics","volume":"46 14","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141355322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Natural infrastructure encompasses ecosystems and environments that either occur naturally or have been deliberately altered through human intervention to provide multiple benefits for the environment and human wellbeing. While there has been extensive scholarly discussion regarding the importance of natural infrastructure in securing the livelihoods of Indigenous populations in developing nations and passing down their critical knowledge from one generation to another, the literature has not explicitly analyzed how Indigenous knowledge has facilitated the protection and conservation of natural infrastructure. Also, there has been limited analysis of the economic benefits of their conservation efforts. This article, utilizing bibliometric analysis as its methodological approach, aims to unpack how Indigenous knowledge has facilitated the protection and conservation of natural infrastructure. Several key themes emerged from this bibliometric analysis, including Indigenous governance strategies aimed at mitigating deforestation and addressing climate change and collective action taken to preserve natural infrastructure. Among others, a positive economic consequence of all three themes lies in their ability to improve the livelihood of Indigenous peoples by creating opportunities to receive payment for ecosystem services.","PeriodicalId":241760,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Environmental Economics","volume":"101 37","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140379698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, India is the second-largest tobacco producer after China, with a production of 758 million kg (13% of global production) and exports of ~190 million kg of tobacco (9% of global tobacco export volume). However, there are uncertainties surrounding the tobacco sector, such as growing public health and environmental issues associated with tobacco production and consumption and changing national and international tobacco-related policy regimes. In this context, the current study investigates the determinants of tobacco exports and geographical shifts in export destinations over the years.The statistical models employed are co-integration, and vector error-correlation models to test the short-run and long-run dynamics relationship between tobacco exports and the explanatory variables, and the Markov chain approach to find out geographical shifts in export destinations.The econometric model estimated the relationship between the tobacco export volume with domestic production, export price, and global demand for Indian tobacco, and investigated the geographical shift in export destinations of tobacco in the context of changing global and national policy regimes on the sector. The econometric modeling framework confirms that there exists a statistically significant relationship between Indian tobacco export demand, domestic production, export price, and world demand for Indian tobacco. The geographical shift was evident in major export destinations during the post-WHO-FCTC (Framework Convention on Tobacco Control) regime. The model findings direct that India should take advantage of the export price, and global demand for tobacco as India ratified WHO-FCTC; there is no scope for horizontal expansion of the area under tobacco. This modeling framework aids as a tool to direct and explore the possible options with a greater emphasis on export-centric farming system in tobacco production by augmenting crop compliance and quality to meet the standards of international markets.","PeriodicalId":241760,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Environmental Economics","volume":"103 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139614511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the financial policy level, the Chinese government actively promotes the development of a green financial system represented by green bonds, green insurance, science and technology insurance, and green credit. Existing literature studies on green insurance and science and technology insurance mainly focus on the relevant legal system, the impact on corporate and risk management system, insurance types and service models, subsidy policies, and the problems and challenges they face. However, existing studies have studied the impact of green insurance and science and technology insurance on corporate' green innovation. In particular, the impact of their interaction on corporate' green innovation is rarely mentioned. From the perspective of green insurance and science and technology insurance to promote corporate' green innovation, based on the data sample of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2014 to 2015, this paper comprehensively investigated and analyzed the impact of green insurance and science and technology insurance on corporate' green innovation, and analyzed the interaction effect of the two. The research perspective of enterprise green innovation is expanded. The analysis conclusion of this paper provides new ideas and empirical evidence for Chinese corporate to realize faster and more efficient green transformation, which is conducive to stimulating the vitality of enterprise green innovation and development.","PeriodicalId":241760,"journal":{"name":"Frontiers in Environmental Economics","volume":"115 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139444785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
