Adopting the spirit of critical psychology and cultural-historical psychology that strive to break the grips of mainstream psychology as well as absorbing the inspiration from Thomas Teo’s psychological humanities, Svend Brinkmann’s cultural psychology, Richard Johnson’s cultural circuit, and Stuart Hall’s cultural studies, as a critical review this article proposes an approach coined as psikologi berhampiran budaya (culturally-turned psychology) based on the socio-cultural realities of the present-day Indonesian society. Psikologi berhampiran budaya offers four models of psychological research in the production of knowledge on both the subject and the society of the present-day Indonesia. The application of the four models in such culturally turned production of knowledge is expected to simultaneously and serendipitously produce a specifically Indonesian psychology.","PeriodicalId":241621,"journal":{"name":"Retorik: Jurnal Ilmu Humaniora","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125553648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Now, there are offline games, online games, arcade games, multiplayer games, etc. Games cater to all ages, and now there are even offline games for toddlers. Meanwhile, there are also more and more genres of online games. Some utilize Virtual Reality, while others even bring virtuality into everyday reality, namely, Augmented Reality. Some of the most popular Augmented Reality games are Ingress, Pokémon Go and Mobbles. Such games, with virtual missions/quests elements in their gameplay, encourage players to go out of the house to adventure in the real world and to meet real people. This study aims to examine the players (subjects) of the Augmented Reality game Mobbles. Mobbles is an Augmented Reality game that was first released in 2012 and was very popular between 2013 and 2016. This is quite a long period of popularity for an online game that was developed DIY by a group of friends from the United States. Of course, as the work of “MSMEs”, in 2016 Mobbles lost its popularity to another game that carried a similar theme but was supported by much greater capital power, namely Pokémon Go. Even so, until 2019, people who are members of Mobbles communities continued to play it, and had even established “friendship communication” with the game’s developers. That is what makes Mobbles particularly interesting. This research uses the theory of subject formation from Lacanian psychoanalysis, especially the concept of the Borromean Knot (RSI). This research examines the activities of a group of players who are members of Mobbles communities, especially from 2014 to 2017. The approach and data search method used is (auto-)ethnography with direct participatory observation. The results obtained from this study are that the gamer subjects are subjects of Obsessive Neurosis. It shall be suggested that from this analysis of Augmented Reality, we can further see and critique the smartphone applications that help us so much that they have become an integral part of our daily lives.","PeriodicalId":241621,"journal":{"name":"Retorik: Jurnal Ilmu Humaniora","volume":"47 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125909323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conversion of “negeri adat” (indigenous villages) in Ambon, which is the main locus of this study, represents an instance of this. Indigenous revivalism intends to fight for indigenous values and regain equality that was neglected during the New Order Regime. However, unfortunately, it has become rooted in the discourse of power. This indigenous euphoria in the Reformasi era did not answer the challenge of indigenous values, but instead got caught up in local political interests by bureaucratizing, managerializing, and/or administering indigenous values. The consequence is ethnic projection. The discourse of indigenous revival has turned into a discourse of ethnic identity revival. In that context, especially regarding the revival of indigenous discourse in Ambon, I would like to discuss three main issues, namely: genealogy, power relations, and subjectivity. The discussion of the third issue will utilize Michel Foucault’s critical discourse analysis method.","PeriodicalId":241621,"journal":{"name":"Retorik: Jurnal Ilmu Humaniora","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114529193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
