Cork is a natural material that is used to seal wine bottles due to its reliability and its chemical and mechanic properties. A modular approach isolates the hard real-time sub problems. It includes some custom developed hardware and software. The developed and implemented system acquires images using a linear CCD camera, transmits that image over an Ethernet based network and processes that image to extract quantitative elements. This system can analyse and distinguish defects present on the surface of a cork-stopper and it is also possible to adapt it to other kinds of problems. The size, form and position of the defects are analysed and the stability of repeated measures is observed. On each node, tasks, both applicative and middleware level, are subject to deadline constraints. Furthermore, signals must be produced sufficiently recently for being safely consumed on the receiver end (so-called \"freshness constraint\"). The goal of this study is to propose an approach for configuring nodes and communication protocols that takes these constraints into account. Precisely, the problem is, on the one hand, to set the characteristics of the middleware tasks and of the set of frames and, on the other hand, to find a feasible schedule on each node","PeriodicalId":241388,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123206586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its use in safety-critical applications has been controversial due to dependability limitations. In particular, in a CAN bus there are multiple components such that a single fault of any of them can prevent the communication capabilities of several nodes and may provoke a general failure of the communication system, i.e. there are multiple severe points of failure. In Barranco, M et al., (2004) we proposed a new active star topology, called CANcentrate, that solves these limitations by means of an active hub with enhanced fault-treatment capabilities. However, the center of the star still represents a severe point of failure, thus not being suitable for more demanding safety-critical systems. In this paper, we propose a replicated star topology, called ReCANcentrate, which has no severe points of failure and is fully compatible with existing CAN controllers. The paper analyzes related work, describes the CANcentrate basics, explains the design and functionalities of ReCANcancentrate, and finally describes the implementation and test of its prototype","PeriodicalId":241388,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124334047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focuses in the emotion as a mechanism for the organisation of the robot behaviour. An emotional robot should be adapted in real-time to the conditions of the environment based on its physical (actuators) and on its mental (processes) capabilities. A real-time emotional agent (RTEA) architecture where the attention of the mental processes (thoughts) is guided by an emotional system is presented. The attention system not only selects the behaviour but it adjusts its intensity as well. The flexibility to adjust the functional objectives to the mental capacity makes RTEA useful in those applications where the agent has to perform several simultaneous tasks","PeriodicalId":241388,"journal":{"name":"2005 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation","volume":"523 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127620995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
