The genus Centistes includes a total of 97 described species, distributed in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. However, for the Americas there is just a recent revision of the Costa Rican fauna, with the description of twenty-three new species, but there has not been a comprehensive work about the genus for mainland South America. In this work, we studied the variation and richness of the genus through analyses of discrete characters, linear morphometry, ratio analyses, and geometric morphometrics. A key for the known South American species is provided and 15 new species are described: C. bellus Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov., C. grandis Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov., C. helmuthi Shaw sp. nov., C. hemicirculus Román & Sarmiento sp. nov., C. hexagonalis Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov., C. iguaquensis Román & Sarmiento sp. nov., C. itamontiensis Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov., C. itatiaiaensis Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov., C. lobungula Román & Sarmiento sp. nov., C. rosae Román & Sarmiento sp. nov., C. singularis Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov., C. soaresi Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov., C. succinum Román & Sarmiento sp. nov., C. truncatus Román & Sarmiento sp. nov., and C. tubigaster Almeida & Penteado-Dias sp. nov. Its type species, S. arimaensis, was reported as endoparasitoid of an Embioptera species, which is a unique biology for known Braconidae. Here we describe three new species of Sericobracon from Costa Rica: S. paulmarshi Zaldívar-Riverón & Shaw, S. puravida Zaldívar-Riverón & Shaw, and S. zunigai Zaldívar-Riverón & Shaw. The former species is characterized with DNA barcoding, providing the first such molecular data for any species in this genus. We also investigated the phylogenetic affinity of the genus within the subfamily Doryctinae based on nuclear UCE data. Sericobracon was recovered within the main Neotropical doryctine clade closely related to Bolivar Zaldívar-Riverón & Rodríguez-Jiménez and Parallorhogas Marsh. We discuss the higher taxonomic classification of Sericobracon and the latter two genera within the Doryctinae based on these relationships recovered and their shared morphological features. A key to species and digital photographs of the five described species of Sericobracon are provided.</p>","PeriodicalId":24072,"journal":{"name":"Zootaxa","volume":"5613 1","pages":"171-185"},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2025-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143774426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
