To deal with the issue, a Quality Of Experience (QoE)-oriented adaptive HTTP video streaming control method based on MPEG-DASH over the wireless mobile networking environment was proposed in this paper. In order to get better QoE, the proposed method considers both temporal and geo concerns for estimating the available bandwidth in the future and the proposed adaptive streaming control scheme considers buffer level, video quality of the most recently downloaded segment and the estimated bandwidth to decide the video quality for the next downloaded video segment. The proposed method has been implemented in the Android system for the client side and the Linux system for the server side. The experiments shown that the proposed method can improve initial delay time, suspended time, suspended times, bitrate difference per segment, and average bitrate difference considering suspending.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130048508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our previous work, we implemented a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based simulation system, called WMN-PSO, and a simulation system based on Genetic Algorithm (GA), called WMN-GA, for solving node placement problem in WMNs. In this paper, we implement a hybrid simulation system based on PSO and distributed GA (DGA), called WMN-PSODGA. We evaluate WMN-PSODGA system by computer simulations. The simulation results show that the WMN-PSODGA system has a good performance for UNDX-m crossover method compared with other crossover methods.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124609680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Energy Efficient Secure Communication in Wireless Sensor Networks","authors":"Ravi Babu Gudivada, R. Hansdah","doi":"10.1109/AINA.2018.00055","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/AINA.2018.00055","url":null,"abstract":"A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of sensor nodes which communicate with each other using wireless only, and it is usually deployed over inaccessible regions to collect information from the environment. Today WSNs have many applications, but sensor nodes of WSNs are resource constraint devices, in particular, energy constraint devices. Hence, it is required to minimize the energy consumption of sensor nodes as far as possible. Security in WSNs is also an important requirement since WSNs cannot meet their objectives without having security. Besides, solutions to security problems in WSNs have to meet not only the security goals of WSNs but also consume as minimum energy as possible. Both symmetric key cryptography and public key cryptography have been used to provide solutions to security problems in WSNs. Public key cryptography consumes more energy compared to symmetric key cryptography, but public key cryptography can provide unique identity to each sensor node besides fulfilling other security requirements. In contrast, symmetric key cryptography like encryption and MAC computation is vulnerable to cryptanalysis, and therefore, keys need to be renewed frequently. In this paper, we propose a scheme for energy efficient secure communication between pairs of sensor nodes essentially using symmetric key cryptography ensuring authenticity and integrity of messages. We have used ECC-based public key cryptography only to identify each node uniquely, and to establish initial symmetric keys between pairs of sensor nodes. In the proposed scheme, we make use of a key generation technique to reduce the frequency of key renewals and symmetric key-based Diffie-Hellman key renewal scheme to reduce the energy consumed during key renewals. The proposed scheme has been compared with basic secure communication scheme which uses ECC-based public key cryptography for key renewal. We have carried out the simulation study of the proposed scheme using Cooja simulator for Contiki 3.x operating system, and the simulation results show that the proposed scheme consumes less energy than the basic secure communication scheme.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"233 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125751164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, throughout the selection of forwarder node, channel interference is also taken into account to offer consistent communication. Consequently proposed scheme minimizes the chances of collision and packet duplication at the network layer by controlling number of forwarders and transmitters. Simulation results show that our scheme outperforms in term of average number of transmissions per packet, packet delay, energy consumption and residual energy as compared to baseline solution.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125753957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research, meta-heuristic techniques Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA), Pigeon Inspired Optimization (PIO) and our proposed Harmony Pigeon Inspired Optimization (HPIO) are adopted to efficiently schedule smart appliances in smart home. The aim of using the above proposed techniques is to reduce Electricity Cost (EC) and Peak-to-Average Ratio (PAR). HEM is proposed to further evaluate the performance of evaluated techniques. In this work, single home and multiple homes which consist of 10 ,30 and 50 homes are considered equipped with multiple smart appliances. These appliances are divided into three sets, which are thermostatically and non-thermostatically controllable, and non-controllable appliances under Time-ofUse (ToU) pricing scheme. Simulations are carried out on these parameters and results shows that proposed technique HPIO performed better than HSA and PIO in terms of minimizing waiting time and PAR. We have considered User Comfort (UC) in terms of waiting time.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130635534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, most current approaches based on received signal strength indicator (RSSI) usually assume that the targeted (tracked) devices have the transmission characteristics similar to the devices used for system training. This is far from the reality and may lead to considerable errors. We propose a robust localization approach which automatically infers a customized signal-strength-to-distance function for every device on-the-fly, and simultaneously estimates the location of it. This is achieved by first approximating the function with a set of piecewise linear functions, for each targeted device, and the parameters of the linear functions are updated, with an Expectation Maximum (EM) algorithm, when more and more RSSI data of the device are available. Specifically, during the expectation step of the EM algorithm, the location of the targeted device is estimated. Whereas in the maximization step of the algorithm, the parameters of the linear functions customized for that device are updated. As the approach is capable of learning the parameters during localization, training process or system calibration is unnecessary and thus the system setup time can be shortened. This feature is practical for meeting the special needs of the exhibition industry: extremely tight schedules for setting up the site from scratch and extremely large venues. With our testbeds, experimental results show that the mean localization error can be kept about 1.7 meters for different mobile devices with different transmission characteristics. A real-world test at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) was also conducted and various mobile devices can be tracked accurately with little setup time.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"223 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134093920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For a careful customer it is time-consuming to make good purchasing decisions due to a variety of similar products, lots of reviews for each product, and distributed reviews on the Internet. To alleviate this situation, this paper proposes EasyChoose, which is a distributed scheme based on Hadoop YARN to continuously collect product reviews from the Internet, extract representative product features based on previous customers' reviews, and highlight the main point of the reviews. In this paper, we use online hotel booking as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of EasyChoose. The results show that EasyChoose is able to automatically extract representative product features and highlight reviews without losing the original meanings. Furthermore, EasyChoose is able to continuously provide such service to keep up with changes in recent customers' reviews.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134531508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Besides, the Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols in Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET), presented in the literature, have many weaknesses in supporting real time traffic. Indeed, some of them combine the advantage of TDMA with CSMA/CA to organize the channel access, therefore collisions may occur when safety messages are transmitted. In the context of hard real time, meeting deadlines requires prior knowledge of the possible communications between vehicles. Thus, we introduce an extension of the Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) defined in IEEE 802.11p combined with TDMA, called Qos-aware Centralized Hybrid MAC protocol (QCHMAC). To evaluate our proposed protocol, we implemented it in ns-3 and we used the simulator SUMO to generate vehicular mobility traces. The simulation results reveal that QCH-MAC significantly outperforms pure TDMA in terms of transmission delay, packet loss rate and network throughput.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131346082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ESNs support the activities required to characterize and monitor the quality of the environment, allowing the connection of a wide variety of measuring devices. Due to the specifics of environmental monitoring applications, ESNs should meet a set of requirements, in particular, system integration, content routing and reliability. In this context, geographic protocols appear as an important option in which packets are routed to a destination based not on its identity or address but on its geographic position. Geographic protocols are particularly useful for ESN because they allow queries to be routed to regions instead of specific nodes identified by their addresses. In this paper we propose a geographic protocol capable to forward interest queries across multiple paths, allowing the discovery and maintenance of communication paths formed by good quality transmission links. We demonstrated that the proposed protocol is capable to find good quality paths to in ESNs, presenting good performance even in scenarios where the network is submitted to severe variations in the quality of the wireless links.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131607209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, macro-programming implementations are often centralised. In this paper we present PICO-MP, the first fully decentralised macro-programming middleware for wireless sensor and actuator network (WSAN) applications. PICO-MP incorporates a novel publish-subscribe service that can correlate events scattered across a WSAN using global formulae specifications that are automatically checked in a distributed fashion. PICO-MP has been implemented for the TinyOS operating system and validated on a case study that uses global formulae to improve energy efficiency (lifetime) of the implementation.","PeriodicalId":239730,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132315338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
