However, the complex feature of FRF has not been thoroughly employed for structural damage detection. In the present study, a novel indicator extracted from FRFs of beam structures is developed for crack identification. The damage indicator originated from the well-known mode assurance criterion (MAC) and therefore it is termed spectral assurance criterion (SAC). First, a coherence coefficient calculated from FRFs of intact and damaged beams and called herein spectral damage index (SDI) is analyzed for examining sensitivity of FRFs to crack. Then, SAC calculated for different FRFs of the same damaged structure is employed for crack detection by the so-called contour method. Results obtained in numerical examples of the crack detection problem show that SAC is really a novel and efficient criterion for crack identification in beams from measured FRFs.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136343255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The governing equations for the static buckling of the system are obtained by the new four-variable refined plate theory and FEM. The eigenvalue problem method was used to solve the equation to determine the critical force of the plates. A numerical example is compared with the results in another research to check the validity of the present algorithm. The influences of some factors such as plate theory, CNT distribution along the layer thickness, stiffener height ratio, and fiber orientation angle on the critical buckling loads and unstable regions are discussed.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136343248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed sealing component, which replaces traditional lip-seals, consists of a permanent magnet and a magnetic core positioned on the rotary shaft. Through a combination of simulation and experimentation, the design and performance of the self-sealing component are investigated. Initially, the research provides an overview of MR fluid and its applications, as well as previous studies on sealing components utilizing MR fluid. Building on this background, a configuration for the self-sealing component specific to rotary shafts in MR fluid-based devices is proposed. The design and modeling of the sealing component are carried out, employing the Bingham plastic rheological model of the MR fluid and finite element analysis techniques. Through finite element analysis, an optimal design for the sealing component is determined. Prototypes of the sealing component are manufactured, and experimental testing is conducted to assess its performance characteristics. The experimental results are then compared with the simulated results, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the sealing component's effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136344872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PTO was originally developed on the concept that the amount of material being distributed to an element would be proportional to the contribution of that element in the objective function. Sensitivity analysis is not required. In a two-scale concurrent topology optimization problem, two sets of design variables are defined, one for macro-structure and one for micro-structure. Here, the objective function is reformulated such that the contribution of each micro-scale design variable can be determined, facilitating the employment of PTO. The macroscopic effective elastic tensor is evaluated by the energy-based homogenization method (EBHM), providing a link between micro-structure and macro-structure. Feasibility and efficiency of the proposed PTO approach are demonstrated via several benchmark examples of both two and three dimensional structures.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132898613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Equivalence between the beam and SDOF models means that they have the same fundamental natural frequency and similar frequency response functions (FRFs). Similarity of FRFs is checked by using the frequency-domain assurance criterion acknowledged herein as spectral similarity index (SSI). Finally, FRFs of both the cracked beam and its simplified SDOF model have been examined versus crack location and depth using the so-called spectral damage index (SDI). Numerical results show that SDI is significantly sensitive to crack and could be used as a novel indicator for crack detection in beam by measurements of frequency response functions.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128142616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The comparison with the passive isolation is illustrated by the trade off performance curve, which is shown the relation between the displacement and force transmissibility. The adaptive control is based on on-off dampings and a switching frequency. The analytical optimization of the adaptive damping law can be obtained. The optimized adaptive damping control showed a remarkable improvement comparing with the passive one. At last, a self-made magnetorheological fluid is introduced to show the capability to provide the variable damping.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"80 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121450827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The materials are copper alloys: pure Cu, CuBe2, and CuFe2P, provided in thin sheets of thickness around 0.1 mm. After deep-drawing of rectangular blanks, which can be aligned with the tools or slightly misaligned, and tool withdrawal, the U-shaped structure exhibits an opening of the section (2D springback) and twisting (3D springback). Characteristic features of the deformed geometry are significantly different for the three alloys. This study is directed to understand the origin of that difference with a numerical simulation of the process. The mechanical behaviour of the materials was investigated in tension and hydraulic bulge test, out of comparison’s sake and to derive the hardening law over a strain range representative of the process. Finite element simulations are performed using the von Mises criterion coupled with isotropic hardening, to compare the predicted forming load and springback parameters with experimental values.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122657169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because the cutting forces are generated at the time of cutting, at the contact area between the workpiece and the cutting tool, the generalized forces of the cutting forces in the differential equations of motion of robot is always variable and difficult to determine precisely. The cutting forces depend on the cutting mode, the geometric parameters of the cutting layer, the cutting conditions, etc. This study shows an inverse dynamic controller with the outer PD loop and an additional calibration block to compensate the differences between the actual cutting forces and calculated cutting forces (which are caculated by the empirical formula). The cutting forces at each machining time of the calibration block is determined based on the differential equation of motion. The efficiency (convergence time and accuracy) of the proposed controller is evaluated by comparison between the numerical simulation results of the controller with cutting force calibration and the conventional PD controller. In the conventional PD controller, the dynamic model of the robot is assumed to define precisely. The results contribute to design and manufacture the controllers for robotic milling, and to improve the quality of the machined surface. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114879097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FGM characteristics vary nonlinearly throughout the height of the beam element. The NET considers the nonlocal parameter that perfectly captured the size effect of nanostructures. However, the NET makes nonlocal paradoxes in the bending and vibration behaviour of framed nanostructures with the free ends. To overcome these phenomena, the nanostructure is modelled according to the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory and the variational-consistent nonlocal boundary conditions have been derived. The exact solutions of differential equations of motion and variational-consistent nonlocal boundary conditions are found using the DSM. The influences of the nonlocal, material, geometry parameters and Pasternak’s foundation on the free vibration are then analyzed. It is shown that the study can be applied to other FGMs as well as more complicated framed structures.","PeriodicalId":239329,"journal":{"name":"Vietnam Journal of Mechanics","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123768451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
