A robust sliding mode controller is derived so that the actual trajectory tracks the desired trajectory as closely as possible despite the highly non-linear and coupled dynamics. The proportional-integral sliding mode is chosen to ensure the stability of the overall dynamics during the entire period i.e. the reaching phase and the sliding phase. Application to a two-link planar robot manipulator is presented.","PeriodicalId":239300,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Student Conference on Research and Development, 2003. In recent years a new technique called wavelet transform has been proposed for signal analysis. It has been successfully used in image compression application. So far, less attention has been paid to the research in the speech compression using wavelet. This paper attempts to evaluate the wavelet compression technique on speech signals. Different wavelet filters were used to select the best filter suitable for speech signal in providing low bit rate and low computation complexity. Our implementation was evaluated based on PSNR, SNR, NRMSE and compression ratio tested on 8 kHz 8-bit speech signals. This algorithm was also compared to the following speech compression schemes: linear predictive coding (LPC) which reduces the transmitted data by factor of more than twelve, and global system mobile (GSM) which reduces the transmitted data by factor of five As a result from this study, wavelet speech compression gives higher SNR and better speech quality than the other techniques.","PeriodicalId":239300,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Choosing a subset of the features may increase accuracy and reduce complexity of the acquired knowledge. This paper, proposes a new feature subset selection approach by using slicing techniques, which was originally proposed for programming languages. Slicing means that we are interested in automatically obtaining that portion 'features' of the case responsible for specific parts of the solution of the case at hand. The paper presented the proposed approach based on slicing techniques improved the feature subset selection for classification task in data mining.","PeriodicalId":239300,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Greenberg (1997) explains, \"Animation is a deliberately interpreted \"illusion of life.\" It has been practiced for the last 70 years in both drawn and stop motion animation, and as such, is not an attempt to mimic human and animal life exactly.\" According to the historical timeline, there are many forms of animation that have been introduced. This includes cel animation, clay animation, stop frame animation, three dimensional (3D) computer animation and virtual reality. With the rapid growth of this industry, various types of techniques, methodologies and computer technologies have been developed, for instance the keyframe animation, non-linear animation, motion capture, procedural animation and etc. Generally there are two popular methods in producing computer animation; keyframe animation and motion capture. Both have their own adherents. The authors believe that this research is important to reveal the actual process and its advantages/disadvantages for animation production. The findings and discussions would be useful for production guidelines, especially in making decision to choose the right method.","PeriodicalId":239300,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. This system consists of three main parts, namely speed sensor, micro controller and alarm system. The main function of the black box is to monitor vehicle speed and it gives a warning when the speed limit is exceeded. It can be installed in any type of motor vehicle and does not affect the operation of the vehicle after its installation. The input to the black box is same vehicle speed signal (VSS) used by the vehicle speedometer. The system has been designed using Maxplus-II software and programmable logic device (PLD). The whole black box system is developed and it is tested using signal generator in laboratory. Since the system is designed with digital logic and is based on programmable logic device, the output of the black box responds quickly with the change in input signal.","PeriodicalId":239300,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. OFDM system shows many favorable property such as high spectral efficiency, robustness to channel fading and immunity to impulse interference. However, there are some obstacles in using OFDM in transmission system, which is in contrast to its advantages. One of the major drawbacks is a very high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the OFDM signals. Therefore this paper analyzes the capability of code repetition (CR) to reduce PAPR in WLAN/OFDM system. The analysis is on a network model designed by WLAN 802.11a standard using Matlab, a mathematical simulation software tool. The network model has been simulated in AWGN channel environment to investigate the behavior of PAPR and BER performance. The proposed technique to reduce PAPR in the WLAN/OFDM channel coding consists of two part; convolutional code and CR. Simulation model with different number of repetition has been analyzed and the results were compared with the conventional coded OFDM (COFDM). The simulation results show that the proposed technique based on CR reduces PAPR down to 5 dB compared to COFDM model.","PeriodicalId":239300,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
