Sensitivities with respect to filter passive components are investigated. It is shown how the optimization can be performed in order to achieve minimal sensitivities with relatively small values of Q-factors. Multiple-feedback-structured filters have low sensitivities to passive component tolerances, and additional sensitivity reduction of 2/sup nd/-order building biquads is achieved by the \"impedance tapering\" design. As an example, the sensitivity analysis, using Shoeffler sensitivity measure, was performed on a Chebyshev 8/sup th/-order BP filter. The filters were realized using UMLF and leap-frog (LF) structures, where sensitivity-optimized single-amplifier (SAB) and Sallen and key (SAK) biquads realize the 2/sup nd/-order biquads.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. In both areas the basis of all work is a skull find of a dead person which should be reconstructed. This helps with the identification of a skeleton from an open case of death or the comparison of facial features between modern and ancient human beings. In this paper a new method for forensic facial soft-tissue reconstruction is presented. It is based on a nonlinear warping technique using radial basis functions known as thin-plate splines extended to 3D space. To minimize the amount of errors a regularized thin-plate spline version was implemented. As for the manual facial reconstruction procedure the forensic expert has to attach soft tissue on a skull find. However, since the conventional, manual 4-step approach of i) examination of the skull, ii) development of a reconstruction plan, iii) practical sculpturing and iv) mask design is very time consuming, multi-modality elastic matching of 3D MRI soft tissue onto the 3D CT image of a skull find is proposed.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. A binary motion estimation is used in some key areas of the image to obtain a field of vectors, minimizing memory constraints. After a careful removal of the outlier motion vectors, the affine parameters that describe the global rotational and translational motion of the image are extracted. This motion is then properly filtered to retain only its intentional component. Performances of the algorithm and the complexity of a possible software solution in a realistic platform are evaluated.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. This paper presents a method for designing output digital filters of the HFB, when analog input filters are easy-to-implement (typically second order) and consequently can work at high rate. The constraint of quantization noise amplification due to the digital output filters is taken into account by using the Lagrange multiplier method. In order to improve quality of the output signal in spite of this constraint, degrees of freedom are added by using a K-channels HFB associated with an oversampling factor M less than K and by imposing a condition stronger than that of Nyquist on the input signal.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. In a scene acquired by a three-dimensional laser scanner the system can detect the presence of human faces; the faces detected are registered in a canonical position and then recognized. Both the 3D and 2D (i.e. pictorial) information provided by the scanner are exploited. The 3D representation is used to detect the presence of faces and normalize them. In the recognition step 3D and 2D information are independently analyzed, producing two different scores that are then combined to compute the output of the system.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. It is then necessary to provide protection to the creatorship of each participating creator. This paper proposes a novel digital watermarking framework to address the problem of joint-creatorship protection for object-based video. The proposed framework makes use of digital watermarking techniques and cryptographic protocols to achieve the creatorship protection purpose. Video objects in the object-based video can be created by different creators. The framework embeds different watermarks in different video objects in such a way that each creator can show the joint-creatorship of the whole video: as well as each creator can prove his/her creatorship of video object he/she created. The complexity of the framework is analyzed by calculating the amount of data transmission and storage requirements.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. Detection of misconvergence is carried out based on several methods for the estimation of the bit-error rate (BER) at the output of the blind equalizer, thus leading to new countermeasures in order to overcome channel effects on the equalizer performance. A comparative study of several detection techniques is carried out for both static and dynamic channels. Simulations point out the effectiveness of the new misconvergence management methods.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. One algorithm computes the optimal orthogonal transform, and the other the optimal linear transform. Comparison of the performances in high-rate transform coding between the classical Karhunen-Loeve Transform (KLT) and the transforms returned by the new algorithms are given. On synthetic data, the transforms given by the new algorithms perform significantly better that the KLT, however on real data all the transforms, included KLT, give roughly the same coding gain.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. Short time intervals could be used in order to reduce nonstationarity effects. However, resolution of images obtained by using short intervals is highly limited. In this case superresolution techniques, such as Capon, ESPRIT and MUSIC, should be used. All high resolution methods are quite sensitive to the noise. The main topic of this paper is to find a relation between maximum SNR and resolution when 2D Capon method is used in ISAR. 2D Capon method's sensitivity to the noise is analyzed and compared to the 2D Fourier transform application, in case of well separated scattering centers. In order to improve performance of the standard Capon method a modified version with the known number of components is considered.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005. A previous paper has reported on the classification of optical microscope images of pollen grains using Gabor transforms and shape described by moment invariants. This work has since been extended by the introduction of a range of additional texture measures including grey-level cooccurrence matrices (GLCM), laws features and a wavelet decomposition. The additional texture measures have improved the pollen recognition rate of the system. This paper primarily reports on the development and evaluation of image capture and segmentation schemes. Further system developments in progress are briefly reported.","PeriodicalId":238993,"journal":{"name":"ISPA 2005.
