The full-bridge PRC is analyzed for the discontinuous conduction mode of operation. The authors illustrate the worst case of resonant currents. Resonant currents are affected by another resonant condition consisting of the leakage inductance and the resonant capacitor. The experimental results obtained for a full-bridge PRC were consistent with predicted values. The authors set out the actions undertaken to ensure that chemical capacitors in DC-DC converters are correctly used. They give the progression of study and realization, on the basis of a defined specification, of a 100 W high-frequency DC-DC converter, designed without a wet electrolytic capacitor. The different structures of resonant converters are analyzed to accept a forward zero voltage switching multiresonance converter working in a variable frequency between 800 kHz and 1.2 MHz. The transient state of a forward multiresonant power converter was simulated by EISCAP. The magnetizing current of the transformer has a great effect on the converter operation. The most interesting effect was that peak voltage across the main switch increased for the transient state. The peak voltage across the main switch was changed by the pulse frequency modulation (PFM) control method of the main switch. In this inverter, a resonant link high frequency voltage generated in a primary resonant inverter is isolated by a high frequency transformer, then directly converted into a resonant link low-frequency voltage by a cycloconverter. The switching losses and surge voltage levels can be reduced by making all switches in the primary inverter and the cycloconverter operate at zero voltage. The intent of this experimental program was to determine and evaluate the battery's thermal behavior in applications and configurations in which it is presently used. The test program included free-standing cells and a 48 V 375 Ah battery in a close packed cubical configuration. It was concluded that free-standing cells and cells closely packed in a cube configuration will not exhibit thermal runaway when floated at 2.27 V/cell and temperatures at or below 131 degrees F. The 48 V 375 Ah battery at 77 degrees F and potentials above 2.5 V/cell exhibits the symptoms of thermal runaway. When elevated temperature and voltage conditions are encountered it is recommended that the battery float voltage be temperature compensated. The recommended coefficient to temperature compensate float voltage is -3 mV/ degrees C. The ARS is derived from the conventional resonant switches by adding an auxiliary switch in order to clamp the resonant inductor voltage at zero, and a TLCS is derived from the ARS by adding a secondary winding and a diode to the resonant inductor to reduce the voltage stresses of the switches. The subcircuits include lossless capacitive snubbers and an HF transformer-linked cycloconverter operating under the ZVS principle based on HF-voltage source and forced-gate commutation schemes. The PCS operation principle is described using the voltage and current waveforms. The ZVS PSM HF inverter stage with the voltage-clamped QR-P subcircuits is analyzed under the conditions of a load-dependent current source model together with its simulation results. The design approach is described from a theoretical point of view.
