It also tried to examine the impacts of Chinese phonological and morphological awareness on their English language development. The study was conducted in classrooms for third graders from an elementary school in Beijing. The intervention of Chinese program was implemented for a whole year. The morphology-related instruction was adopted in the experimental class, and tradition Chinese teaching instruction was used in the control class. Results showed that students’ reading proficiency (including character reading and sentence reading) in experimental class was significantly higher than the one in control class, which suggested that the teaching intervention was effective and successful in improving these learners’ Chinese reading proficiency, and they made a great progress after one year Chinese learning. Chinese radical awareness was a significant contributor to their English comprehension and could predict their English development. Pedagogical implications for promoting English speakers’ Chinese learning were provided.","PeriodicalId":23766,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Chemical Education","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134908387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current research based on teacher quality, professional development, and teacher education programs have developed based on the U.S. focus, while pre-service and in-service teachers are having an increasingly diverse student population in their classrooms. The lack of appropriate trainings and preparations in developing multicultural and international teaching competence will create instructional barriers between teachers and their multicultural and international students. A more specific question this study poses from the review is the following: what we are missing in teacher education by having a U.S.-focused lens in the teacher education literature.","PeriodicalId":23766,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Chemical Education","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136183050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed skills can become enablers of financial stability, independence and economic security. Yet, on a relative basis, considerably less effort is expended on building the financial skills for individuals to preserve their wealth and assets. As a result, for certain consumer segments, lack of financial education can become a source of hardship. In this study, we use data from the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s (FINRA) 2021 National Financial Capability Study. The correlation between financial literacy and long-term financial behaviors is empirically examined and further dissected by gender and income, to identify population segments who may be vulnerable due to lack of adequate financial education. Significant patterns of financial literacy scores are identified, highlighting the need to enhance financial education offerings to vulnerable consumer segments.","PeriodicalId":23766,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Chemical Education","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135761162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, lithium ion-batteries are “the beacon of hope” for the automotive industry for the use in electric and hybrid cars and for the energy revolution to be applied as a short-time energy storage. However, other lithium-metal-based batteries are used in everyday life, such as lithium-manganese dioxide battery or lithium-iodine-battery. These types of batteries are much less known, but are used very frequently in everyday life. In this article simple experiments with lithium-batteries are presented.","PeriodicalId":23766,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Chemical Education","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134943739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students need to acquire specific content knowledge and an adequate conceptual understanding of kinetics and catalysis in order to understand and evaluate chemical processes from nature and technology, especially in the current contexts of green and sustainable chemistry. To promote such an adequate conceptual understanding, this article presents five school experiments. The experiments allow high school students to acquire the concepts of kinetics and catalysis in a technically correct manner using kinetic measurements. By analyzing the recorded kinetic data using suitable spreadsheet programs, students leave the qualitative observation level and use mathematical models that allow them to draw conclusions about the underlying molecular processes. The use of spreadsheet programs underlines the interdisciplinary nature of this approach. The presented selection of experiments will provide students with an overview of all types of catalyses and their specific properties as well as common, even-numbered reaction orders. The newly acquired knowledge through the experiments enables the students to discuss economic and ecological problem situations and reflect on, and evaluate, courses of action in chemistry. The knowledge also enables students to develop adequate decision-making strategies and to communicate them properly, e.g., in the context of green and sustainable chemistry.","PeriodicalId":23766,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Chemical Education","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135202417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nanoparticles provide a modern approach for treating diseases. By encapsulating active ingredients in nanoparticles the ingredients are not distributed in the entire body, but can be specifically transported and released to the target organs and tissues. The advantage of this approach is that a higher dose can reach the designated target while minimizing the overall dosage and resulting side effects. This research topic offers excellent links to classical school chemistry contents such as polymer chemistry, polymerization, ester formation and cleavage, polarity, and solubility. The digital learning module is based on a differentiation grid that offers students with varying learning backgrounds an individual way to access and engage with the module.","PeriodicalId":23766,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Chemical Education","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86609101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
