Even though nails develop at a somewhat moderate rate, their highly keratinized structure presents unique opportunities and challenges for medication penetration. Achieving therapeutic doses might be difficult even with topical pharmaceutical delivery, which offers advantages like non-invasiveness and customized effect. Many physical and chemical methods, such as acid etching and permeation enhancers, have been studied to improve drug penetration. It has recently been demonstrated that nail lacquers have potential for effectively delivering medication through the nails. Nail anatomy, common nail diseases, nail medication administration methods, and the advantages and disadvantages of nail lacquers are all covered in this overview. In addition, it discusses factors influencing drug diffusion through nails, draws comparisons between topical nail lacquers and oral antifungal medications, and looks at recent studies and patents on the topic. Future prospects for transungual medicine administration are promising, thanks to innovations such as photodynamic therapy and water-based lacquers. To fully realize the promise of this distribution method, more research is necessary.","PeriodicalId":23738,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Biology Pharmacy and Health Sciences","volume":"10 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141796273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this, solid dispersions were formulated using the dropping method with polyethylene glycol (PEG) 4000 and PEG 6000 at ratios of 1:1 and 1:2. These formulations were encapsulated and subjected to various evaluations, including solubility tests, assays, FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and in-vitro dissolution studies. The most effective formulation was then compared to a commercially available product. The formulation identified as D4, which utilized PEG 6000 at a 1:2 ratio via the dropping method, exhibited the highest solubility at 0.678 ± 0.07 mg/ml, a significant improvement over the pure drug's solubility of 0.018 mg/ml. The assay of D4 showed 98.14 ± 12%, with a practical yield of 95.25 ± 0.17%. In vitro dissolution testing revealed that the solid dispersions released the drug within 60 minutes, while the D4 formulation achieved a release of 99.10 ± 0.18% in just 30 minutes. This performance was notably superior to the pure drug, which had a release rate of 27.38 ± 0.10% in 60 minutes, and comparable to the marketed micronized fenofibrate capsule (Lipicard), which had a release rate of 93.91 ± 0.12% in 30 minutes. FTIR analysis indicated no interaction between the drug and the excipients, while XRD and DSC studies confirmed that the drug in the solid dispersion was in an amorphous state. The optimized formulations demonstrated stability over time. Thus, employing the dropping method with a minimal carrier ratio of 1:2 significantly improved the drug release profile, making it comparable to the micronized fenofibrate (Lipicard).","PeriodicalId":23738,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Biology Pharmacy and Health Sciences","volume":"10 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Drawing from the Collins Adult Attachment Scale and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, data was collected via online surveys administered to a convenience sample of 150 participants. The research aims to discern how attachment styles—secure, preoccupied, dismissive, and fearful—affect self-esteem perceptions. Significant findings from ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests reveal distinct patterns among attachment styles: individuals with secure attachment display the highest self-esteem, followed by preoccupied, dismissive, and fearful attachment styles, in descending order. The study underscores the importance of understanding the intricate interplay between attachment orientations and self-esteem development, shedding light on how these psychological constructs shape individuals' perceptions of themselves. Furthermore, the findings contribute to the growing body of literature on adult attachment and its implications for mental health and well-being. These insights have the potential to inform therapeutic interventions aimed at bolstering self-esteem and fostering secure attachment relationships among young adults in diverse cultural contexts","PeriodicalId":23738,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Biology Pharmacy and Health Sciences","volume":"6 18","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines the effect of enriching maize-based starch gruel \"Akamu\" with Bambara groundnut flour. Yellow maize was steeped for 72 hours, with the steep water changed every 24 hours. Then, wet milled, its starch separated with a cheesecloth, oven-dried and milled to produce akamu flour. Bambara groundnut was steeped, boiled, dried and milled into flour and used to enrich (10%, 20% and 30%) the akamu. The steep water was evaluated for microbial analysis, while the sample blends were examined for proximate and sensory attributes. The microbes of steep water decreased in coliform count and pH as fermentation progressed. However, Lactobacillus spp and fungi increased from 0.93x103 and 3.63x103 to 8.42x103 and 6.62x103cfu/mL, respectively. Crude protein increased significantly from 8.64 % to 15.54 %, while carbohydrates reduced to 60.20 %. The 100% maize (control) akamu showed the highest acceptability of 6.58, while 30% Bambara groundnut was the least (3.38). Hence, this study helped to establish the nutritional improvement of akamu, a cereal starch gruel with Bambara groundnut aimed at addressing malnutrition.","PeriodicalId":23738,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Biology Pharmacy and Health Sciences","volume":"3 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141796263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates this association through a cross-sectional survey of 51 students aged 18-24 at the University of Washington. The results indicate an average daily exercise duration of 32 minutes and a mean sleep duration of 7.0 hours. Analysis reveals that students with higher exercise durations exhibit a 14% reduced odds of achieving high sleep quantity compared to those with lower exercise durations. Notably, caffeine consumption serves as an effect modifier in this relationship. These findings suggest that increased exercise does not necessarily correlate with increased sleep in this population, emphasizing the need for a nuanced understanding of the factors influencing sleep among college students. Addressing these variables can inform the development of targeted interventions to enhance student health and academic performance.","PeriodicalId":23738,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Biology Pharmacy and Health Sciences","volume":"9 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also frequently referred to as herbal sunblock or herbal suntan lotion. Herbal sunscreens are a vital component of modern skincare regimens since they offer several benefits that tackle both health and environmental concerns. By obstructing UV rays, sunscreen composition seeks to improve protection against them. Herbal sunscreens have grown in popularity as an appealing substitute for traditional sun protection treatments as a result of the growing consumer demand for natural and environmentally friendly skincare products. Because of their antioxidant qualities and capacity to absorb UVA rays, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and herbal oils are crucial for UV protection. Because these sunscreens are composed of minerals and plant-based ingredients, they provide effective protection against UV (ultraviolet) rays from the sun. Herbal sunscreens have attracted a lot of attention as natural substitutes for conventional sunscreens because they offer protection against harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation while minimizing potential adverse effects linked to synthetic ingredients. An effective and sustainable alternative to traditional sunscreens are herbal sunscreens.","PeriodicalId":23738,"journal":{"name":"World Journal of Biology Pharmacy and Health Sciences","volume":"11 48","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
