The as-prepared AgI/TiO2 composites were used as photocatalysts for Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation under visible light irradiation and exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance. In the presence of composites, almost 100% RhB was decomposed after 60 min. The photocatalytic activity of AgI/TiO2-0.5 composite was optimal, which was 9.5 times higher than that of pristine TiO2, and 15.6 times higher than that of AgI. Moreover, experimental results revealed that the improved photocatalytic activity was not only ascribed to the loading AgI but also resulted from the method that enabled the exposure of more active sites in the composites. In addition, the intimate interfacial contact obtained by this method could also promote the efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Moreover, the possible photocatalytic active species and the stability of the photocatalyst were investigated in detail.","PeriodicalId":23720,"journal":{"name":"Water Quality Research Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.2166/WQRJ.2019.037","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42994775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"环境科学与生态学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The by-product of stored municipal and industrial solid waste production is landfill leachate. Leachate is characterized by a high concentration of organic compounds, ammonia, and the presence of heavy metals. Because of its composition, this kind of wastewater can cause serious environmental pollution and should be treated to reduce its toxic effects. Increasingly, the interest is directed to the application of the ANAMMOX (anaerobic ammonium oxidation) process for the landfill leachate treatment. In this study, for the first time, the effect of treatment with the ANAMMOX process on the toxicity of leachate was investigated. Based on the research performed in this study, it could be stated that the untreated landfill leachate from the municipal landfill and the influent of the ANAMMOX reactor present phytotoxicity to Lemna minor, due to a correlation of high concentrations of organic compounds, heavy metals, such as Cd2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and the presence of an unionized form of ammonia (NH3). The results of the Allium cepa test demonstrated that the treatment was not efficient in eliminating the genotoxic substances that are responsible for the mutagenic potential in the effluent.\u0000 This article has been made Open Access thanks to the kind support of CAWQ/ACQE (https://www.cawq.ca).","PeriodicalId":23720,"journal":{"name":"Water Quality Research Journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2019-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.2166/WQRJ.2019.042","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45755374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"环境科学与生态学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
