An L — switching structure is combined with the semi-quadratic buck converter in order to get high voltage conversion ratio. Moreover, it gives more bucking than the semi-quadratic buck converter. The superiority of the proposed converter is mainly based on less energy stored in the inductors. The current stress in the switching elements is less, which results in lower conduction losses. Salient performance features like voltage bucking, switching stress, inductor current etc. of proposed converter is compared with that of a semi-quadratic buck converter. In this work, simulations of both the buck topologies are presented and these are done using MATLAB/Simulink software. A prototype of 5W, 20 kHz switched-inductor semi-quadratic buck converter is designed, analysed and implemented using PIC16F877A.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125582311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study makes an attempt to utilize some noxious aquatic weeds as a feedstock in High Solid Anaerobic Digesters (HSADs) for the recovery of energy. The specific objectives of the study were to fabricate lab scale HSADs for the digestion of organic fraction of some common noxious aquatic weeds and to evaluate the suitability of it as a feed stock in Anaerobic Digesters and the recovery of energy in terms of biogas. The findings indicate 4.873% of dry solids loss and 96.32% degradation of volatile solids at the end of the experiment for Typha latifolia with a total biogas yield of 14,175 ml and resulted into a total of 83,609 m3/m3 digester volume and 4.168% of dry solids loss and 92.46% degradation of volatile solids at the end of the experiment for Pistia stratiotes with a cumulative biogas yield of 17,570 ml and resulted into a total of 83,609 m3/m3 in 30 days. The performance of the reactors is similar with the values reported in earlier works. This waste utilization forms a sustainable solution for the management of organic fraction of municipal solid waste. Also the slurry from the bioreactor can be utilized as a bio fertilizer.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126124517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The triplen harmonics due to non-linear loads are trapped in the primary delta winding of conventional delta-star configured distribution transformer. This unrecovered harmonics is usually wasted in the form of heat leading to excessive power loss and reduced life of transformer, and this wasted power is termed as drainage power. The recovery of drainage power is possible with star-star-delta_utilized distribution transformer. In this configuration, the power due to circulating harmonics can be recovered across the zero potential terminal of the delta winding. The extracted power is characterized by variable voltage and frequency. This paper presents the recovery of harmonic power from delta winding of star-star-delta_utilized configuration transformer and its controlled consumption with battery support for feeding the load. The powering of load and battery charging are with reference to State of Charge (SoC) of Lead-acid battery and the harmonic current magnitude in the tertiary.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125942681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the solar electric vehicle (SEV), generator rescheduling based congestion management approach is proposed here to mitigate the transmission congestion. Generator sensitivity factor (GSF) with whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is applied here to find the rescheduling amount and congestion cost of the system. The optimal location of the electric vehicle (EV) charging station is found by using bus sensitivity factor (BSF). To analyze the proposed congestion management approach, WOA algorithm is tested with modified IEEE 30 bus system. To validate the obtained results with WOA algorithm, particle swarm optimization (PSO) and ant lion optimizer (ALO) algorithms are also used in this paper. The obtained results prove the effectiveness of utilization of SEV for minimizing the active power rescheduling amount, active power loss and congestion cost of the system.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128581156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VANETs depend on computational units called Road Side Units (RSUs), deployed along the highway to enable connectivity to moving vehicles in the network. Developing mechanisms for efficient resource provisioning of RSUs are of significant importance for energy efficiency in Vehicular networks. Towards this goal, we develop a model to dynamically resize computational resources of RSUs based on vehicle density. The proposed model utilizes queuing theory to determine the optimum number of computational units required to handle data exchanges depending on the vehicle density. Preliminary results in MATLAB/Simulink environment show feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solution for achieving energy efficient operation in VANETs.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127806871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In any case, this noises worldview depends on kind of disturbances, which can be diminished using linear and non linear filtering frameworks. Since, different sort of filtering exhibit in a picture, noises can be expelled utilizing filtering expulsion calculation. Additionally, this paper produces consequences of applying diverse filter sorts to a picture and explored. Since, the originality of noise diminishing in pictures is measured by the real sum measures, for instance, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR). This paper develops an efficient energy management system and it analyses solar energy system in an economical basis especially for industrial applications. Cost calculation payback period under various scenarios are performed here. In this energy management system operating mode of PV system and battery is controlled by a microcontroller in order to enhance the usage of energy from the installed system. During the day time, the solar panel is producing sufficient power to meet the peak load condition. During the normal load condition, the excess power generated from the PV panel should be stored in battery energy storage system and is used for next peak hours. If there is an insufficiency in producing power from the PV panel and battery is also fully discharged, then the load demand will be met by the main grid. As an economical option it can be introduced in industries like hospitals and manufacturing companies. By conducting an economical analysis it focuses the attainability of this system for practical implementation.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132469434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this analysis commercial CFD software ANSYS FLUENT (ver. 15.0.7) is used to investigate the effect of relative roughness height (0.0168 to 0.0338), Reynolds number (3000 to 15000) and angle of attack (30°, 45°, 60° and 75°) on duct thermal performance and results are compared with smooth duct. The roughened horizontal absorber plate is uniformly heated using constant heat source of 1000 W/m2 and remaining three sides are insulated. Maximum Nusselt number (Nu) and friction factor (f) found to be 96.83, 0.45 and 52.19, 0.024 for artificially roughened duct and smooth duct respectively. Nusselt number enhanced by 120 % in roughened SAH over the smooth duct. Optimum parameters in roughened duct found to be: angle of attack (α) = 60°, relative roughness height (e/Dh) = 0.0338, relative pitch ratio (p/e) = 10 and aspect ratio (W/H) = 8.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128399603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surveys show that approximately 53 million persons travel through almost 400,000 buses twice daily. Often women are seen taking private transportation at night which really compromises their safety. We did some survey and found that most of the women prefer to take public bus transport during night time, but they are forced to take private transport due to lack of an easy means to check the bus schedules. In this paper, we describe and evaluate an android based application that uses crowdsourcing technique for generating bus schedules, even for short distance travel. The system uses the android accelerometer for detecting the bus stops. Then GPS is activated and the coordinates of the stop are sent to the server. The server runs a scheduling algorithm and updates the schedule. And whenever a user of the application enters the source and destination, the corresponding bus schedule will be displayed. The system is implemented and tested using the crowdsourced data populated by twenty five volunteers, as they travelled by public bus transport and the results proved the superiority of the system.","PeriodicalId":237016,"journal":{"name":"2017 International Conference on Technological Advancements in Power and Energy ( TAP Energy)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134455528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
