These vehicles are equipped with instrumentation and sensors that allow accomplishing in-situ operations. To increase their access capability to harsh environments, onboard systems are included to enable obstacle avoidance and slip prediction that represent fundamental functionalities for safe navigation. This work focuses on the implementation of a method that accurately reproduces the wheel-soil interaction and predicts rovers' performances in different scenarios (e.g., cloddy/drift terrain type, steep terrains). We implemented a 3D model of a rover to simulate its navigation with obstacles on the path. Our estimated trajectory is obtained through the Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) data processing, which enables the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM).","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134628351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Guaranteeing the quality of the bonding is crucial for ensuring its strength and its robustness to mechanical stresses. Here, we present the results of an Ion Mobility Spectrometer based no-contact methodology to detect the presence of two contaminants that are usually present on surfaces before bonding. False negative rate was found to be less than 5% at an accuracy level of 92% for detection which look promising for further development aiming at field deployment.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"575 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116065603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system uses an elastomeric gel with a painted membrane that conforms to the inspection surface together with a camera and custom algorithms. The device is capable of quantifying surface geometry down to one micrometer on any rigid material, including metals, composites, plastics, and glass, regardless of the optical properties of the surface. A detailed 3D surface is reconstructed within seconds. GelSight, Inc., has validated the performance results for spatial (X-Y) and depth (Z) measurements, and developed several novel measurement algorithms of specific interest in the aerospace industry, including fastener flushness.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123366170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our approach is based on S parameter measurements applied to the classical Nicolson-Ross-Weir inversion problem, where a fully correlated uncertainty propagation is adopted to compute the uncertainty of parameters such as $epsilon_{r}$ and $tandelta$. The methodology has been fully integrated in a simple to use application which allows real time measurement and display of the data with uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124955081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed wing design is analyzed numerically by FEM using Ansys. Changes in aerodynamic characteristics are illustrated through examples of different wing airfoil geometries. Quantitative aerodynamic parameters are determined, and obtained analysis results are compared with data from NACA airfoil databases. Geometries of individual structural members of the wing are specified, including ribs, spars, spar stiffeners (at fuselage attach points) and skin shape. The shape and fastening of high-lift devices such as ailerons and flaps are proposed. Also, different variants of spars and rib holes are tested and compared using structural simulations.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126163875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, despite the outstanding properties of this kind of materials, uncertainties still exist on their complex damage behavior. For such a reason, extensive investigation, from both an experimental and numerical perspective, is mandatory. This work aims to investigate the damage behavior of delaminated composite specimens subjected to compressive load. The strain and displacement fields are monitored by using Digital Image Correlation (DIC), in order to obtain information on the delamination propagation during the experiment. The acquired data can be used, supported by Finite element analyses, to help the understanding of such complex phenomenon.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121860933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, a Three-Degrees of Freedom Dynamic Testbed for CubeSats has been developed at the University of Bologna. In this paper, the development of a platform for 1U CubeSats testing is described. Within the facility, disturbance-free environment is guaranteed and a magnetic field is generated by a Helmholtz cage to enable experimental verification of magnetic attitude control systems. A COTS CubeSat mockup is integrated and employed to test detumbling, spin-axis pointing and three-axis attitude control laws relying on magnetorquers only. The experimental results show the facility capabilities in highly demanding magnetic attitude control scenarios.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125700264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results of abrasion resistance determined by the Schopper-Schlobach method in compliance with the PN-ISO 4649: 2007 are presented. Typical wear modes of belt conveyors are described, and the areas of high abrasive wear are identified. The preparation of test samples is presented, conducted tests and test stands used in the study are described. Obtained results are statistically processed, and the relationship between mass wear and sampling location is established. It has been found that the mass wear in contact zones of the baggage carousel segments differs to a significantly for the different friction points.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129228954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
