First of all, the geometry of the scene and the new system concept is described with emphasis on the required operative modes and the role played by the RIS. Then, the specific radar equation (including the RIS effect) is developed to manage the coverage requirements in the challenging region where the LOS is not present. Hence, a digression on the use of the radar timeline for the new operative mode is presented together with a discussion on the resolution issues for the range, azimuth, and Doppler domains. Finally, the interplay among the system parameters and, in particular, those involving the RIS is discussed and analyzed via numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125038829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The introduction of the photonic technology, which is already well developed for terrestrial networks, can represent one of the possible approaches to reduce the payload system complexity. This paper provides a brief overview on possible applications of microwave/photonic technologies to implement operations needed in a Satellite Communication (SATCOM) payload, focusing on advantages of Radio Frequency (RF) signal mixing in the photonic domain. A configuration scheme of a photonic RF mixer based on a dual port Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) and two photonic local oscillators, used as RF downconverter, is presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129927045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AMPERE will support decision making actors (e.g., institutions and public/ private companies in charge to manage electrical network) to collect all needed info to plan electrical network maintenance and upgrade. In particular, the need for such a solution comes in emerging countries (worldwide) where, despite global electrification rates are significantly progressing, the access to electricity is still far from being achieved in a reliable way, and, there is lack of knowledge about already deployed infrastructure. The AMPERE data collection solution relies on drones equipped with GNSS/INS units, LIDAR, optical and thermal cameras. In such a context, Galileo is a key enabler - especially, considering its free-of-charge High Accuracy Service (HAS) and its highly precise E5 AltBOC code measurements- as a core component to map electric utilities, optimize decision making process about the network development and therefore increase time and cost efficiency, offering more convenient way to manage energy distribution. The project is also aimed at investigating the potential of cooperative multi-UAV solutions.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130352567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To manufacture new sensors, electrically conductive paint with silver microparticles is utilized to prepare tailored measuring grid on epoxy or polyurethane coating as a driving/insulating layer. That method is designed to enhance functionality and usability compared to commercially available crack gauges. By using paint with conductive metal particles, the shape of sensor measuring grid can be more easily adapted to the structure, while in the previous approach only few grid-fixed sensors are available. Fatigue tests on coupon CT specimen as well as thin aluminum plate are presented and discussed to evaluate the ability of the developed sensors to detect and monitor fatigue cracks. Two types of data acquisition system with various sensing layer interconnection is proposed, in which a series of conductive stands are connected to Wheatstone bridge or become a part of RLC band pass filter.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130355020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach is based on application of PZT transducers for excitation and acquisition of elastic waves in a CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) composite panel. The method relies on the so called pitch - catch scheme of PZT transducers application, where pairs of sensors are used for the purpose of structure monitoring, i.e. one sensor is used as elastic waves generator and the other as receiver of excited waves. In the presented paper, sinusoid signal in a given frequency range is used for elastic waves excitation, which is different than in the standard pitch-catch approach. In the paper algorithm for signal analysis is presented, which allows to maintain full information carried by acquired signals in a given frequency for the purpose of damage detection. Stability of damage indication acquired for different pairs of PZT transducers of the network is analyzed in the paper as well as sensitivity of the approach to impact damage detection. Detailed description of the developed method, hardware implementation, experimental setup as well as description of the obtained results are delivered in the paper.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127018444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objectives of the conceived system are to hold the quartz crystal providing adequate support in the expected mechanical and thermal environments, and to assure the functionalities of the instrument, i.e. measuring the oscillation frequency and the crystal temperature or heating the crystal during regeneration phases. A kinematic mounting has been designed to be manufactured by stereolithography because this technology allows achieving high spatial resolution and complex shapes that are needed to implement an easy assembling and mounting of the holding system. Moreover, the 3D printing technology would provide a cost-effective solution even for small series production.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126572136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of the ADS-B is further increased by its ability to support Detect and Avoid (DAA) systems, which are able to act both as decision support systems for human pilot onboard manned vehicles and for remote pilots in case of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and as automatic systems implemented onboard unmanned aerial vehicles performing fully automatic missions. Such considerations emphasize that the ADS-B technology is able to play the role of enabling technology for the implementation of single pilot operations on manned vehicles and for the integration of unmanned vehicles (totally automatic or remotely piloted) into the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system. In this paper, a system is outlined that has been designed by CIRA in order to exploit the ADS-B as cooperative surveillance sensor supporting the Detect and Avoid applications. In particular, the systems that is here outlined is an integrated system for Separation Assurance and Collision Avoidance, designed for the implementation in the RPAS domain. In the paper, therefore, first a review of the evolution of the CIRA designed system for DAA is provided and, then, an outline of the ADS-B based DAA systems is reported. Finally, some numerical applications are indicated to show the system behavior.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"49 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132511381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are few studies devoted to the experimental testing of propellers dedicated to this type of propulsion. This paper presents the results of an experimental study of the propellers for the electric propulsion system. Selected parameters related to the performance of a set of 12-inch plastic propellers with different pitch values were analyzed in the study. The tests were carried out on a constructed test stand which enabled the adjustment of parameters such as rotational speed or voltage of the electric motor. The test stand was equipped with a set of sensors that allow the recording of defined parameters. The obtained results give general knowledge about the performance of the propellers with different pitch values under static conditions and constitute the basis for further research under forced airflow conditions.","PeriodicalId":236783,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 8th International Workshop on Metrology for AeroSpace (MetroAeroSpace)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131011180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
