The HNM is known to be efficient in terms of speech signal representation, thanks to the use of natural parameters: fundamental and voicing cut-off frequencies, harmonics and noise frequencies. Besides, the long-term modeling is particularly efficient in reducing the data size of the model parameters. In this paper we combine both approaches, long-term modeling and HNM, to develop a very low bit-rate coder for narrowband speech. The obtained bit-rates are as low as 2.3 kbps with objective listening quality (perceptual evaluation of speech quality PESQ) of 2.3.","PeriodicalId":236767,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113965494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The searching of the step size depends on the fuzzy inference results of an estimation of the final value of the cost function (J E ) instead of using its instantaneous value. The update of the step-size is performed outside of the adaptive algorithm and given it feedback by the fuzzy inference system; therefore the step-size is still fixed for the NLMS algorithm but variable for the complete searching scheme. Simulation experimental results show that a useful approximation of the optimal step-size can be obtained for different conditions of signal-to-noise plus interference ratios (SINR) and the minimization of the mean square error for the adaptive beamforming algorithm is also achieved.","PeriodicalId":236767,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing","volume":"287 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116519076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Smartphones, equipped with wireless connectivity features and powerful processing capabilities, are usually utilized as a data aggregation, transmission and communication nodes. However, the main challenge of unobtrusive continuous sensing remains fast battery depletion of wireless sensor nodes and smartphones. In this paper, we have introduced wireless sensor network system with multimodal platform for physiological monitoring and smartphone for subsequent processing. Possible distribution of processing operations for wireless sensor node and smartphone device is demonstrated in stress detection scenario. Event-driven approach based on Bluetooth Low Energy communication protocol for data transfer between sensor board and smartphone shows significant savings in power consumption, while maintaining satisfying level of accuracy. This proves to be of high importance, in order to improve systems reliability and user acceptance in other real-time health monitoring scenarios.","PeriodicalId":236767,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124171562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be caused by several factors such as prolonged exposure to sunlight, genetic defects and environmental factors. There are different kinds of skin cancer and the patients are usually not aware of recognizing the growth of skin lesions in the initial stage. For example, melanoma, which is a malignant lesion and one of the deadliest kinds. Skin cancer can be cured when it is detected early. Therefore, timely and accurate detection and treatment of the disease has a crucial role in the patients’ survival. This paper aims to present an analysis of recent applications proposed for automated detection of skin cancer and future potentials to assist the investigators in developing efficient methods to achieve accurate, objective and early detection of the disease.","PeriodicalId":236767,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121156974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
