There are three common methods of determining the criteria weights in AHP; extent analysis, logarithmic least square method (LLSM), and Lambda-Max. This paper identifies the strengths and weaknesses of these three methods based on the weight accuracy and computational level involved in generating the criteria weights using the data of selecting the best catering company by Wang et al [1].","PeriodicalId":236344,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Science and Social Research (CSSR 2010)","volume":"173 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125794042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The calibrated satellite-based rainfall is used as the main input in the Thornthwaite water balance equation to estimate the water run-off (yield) at monthly basis from 1998 to 2007. Four forested watershed which located in each main region in the Peninsular Malaysia are used as sample to evaluate the model performance. Preliminary assessment of the calibrated satellite-based rainfall at the selected forested watershed indicates good agreement with the ground rainfall measurement with average bias of ±43.35mm per month. The monthly estimated water run-off for all forested watershed in all region also shows good agreement and comparable with the simulated run-off using the rain gauged data. The average bias for the satellite-based derived water run-off for all forested watershed in all Peninsular Malaysia region is 22.7mm per month except for east region where higher values are recorded which reach 55.5mm per month.","PeriodicalId":236344,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Science and Social Research (CSSR 2010)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124599628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To succeed this project, the management at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and their contractor, Thiokol overruled engineer's opinion and commented that the data given was inconclusive. This situation went worse when the management level made irrational decisions to launch the mission yet they knew there was a design flaw in Solid Rocket Booster (SRB). Due to their irresponsible conducts, seven astronauts were killed when the space shuttle they were piloting, the Challenger, exploded 73 seconds after liftoff. It was the first tragedy in US lost their astronauts in flight. Consequently, NASA had to suspend shuttle flights for two years. In order to analyze this case study, analysis is placed on using ethical theories are the foreground. Each ethical theory emphasizes different points to examine problems from different perspectives in order to reach an ethically correct decision. Hence, knowledge of ethical theories is essential because it provides a framework for understanding and making a better decision.","PeriodicalId":236344,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Science and Social Research (CSSR 2010)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124603422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Improper use of the chemicals can cause accidents. Limitation of knowledge and training seem to be the factors for the chemical accidents. In Malaysia students are exposed to handling of chemical substances as early as at primary level but they usually handle chemical substances themselves including hazardous substances at secondary level when they are involved in laboratory activities. Therefore, understanding on classification and labeling of chemicals amongst secondary level students is crucial. Globally Harmonized System (GHS) is chosen in this study because this system is expected to be adopted internationally, and will replace the relevant laws and regulations used in different countries worldwide. Methodology for this study is descriptive quantitative survey. Cluster probability sampling was used for secondary levels students in Terengganu. Results found show that the students of secondary levels cannot recognize chemical substance correctly by using GHS. Attitude towards the importance of chemical labeling is also being discussed. Positive attitude are needed for good behavior while handling chemical substances. Therefore, it is suggested that the hazard communication based on GHS should be incorporated into chemistry curriculum for secondary schools.","PeriodicalId":236344,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Science and Social Research (CSSR 2010)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129707364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The software used for the simulation is the CST Microwave Studio (CST MWS) which is an analytical tool that provides an accurate 3D EM simulation results for high frequency design. Several parameters dimension and helical's profiles were studied in order to obtained a suitable resonance frequency. Among the helical antenna parameters that being studied were on its different forms that link to multiple diameters, radius ratio, and number of turns. In this paper, attention is focused on helical antennas which find important applications in communication systems, primarily because of their circular polarization and wide bandwidth. The helical antenna, first introduced by Kraus in 1946 [4], has been subject of extensive investigations during the past five decades. Many modifications to the basic helix geometry have been proposed with the aim of improving the gain, bandwidth, axial ratio, and VSWR. More recently, the possibility of size reduction, while maintaining the radiation characteristics, has been explored. Both the theoretical and simulation results will be presented.","PeriodicalId":236344,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Science and Social Research (CSSR 2010)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126956078","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effects of two-step membrane preparation procedures and grafting yield on the thermal stability and structural properties of membranes were investigated by thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry, respectively. A three-step degradation pattern was observed from TGA thermograms of all the membranes, which attributed to the dehydration, desulfonation, and degradation of the PVDF backbone. The weight losses in the membranes were found to be reliant on the grafting yield. Meanwhile, the intrinsic crystallinity of the PVDF matrix was found to show a decreasing trend with increasing in grafting yield. A further decrease in crystallinity was also observed in the sulfonation reaction. The residual crystallinity of the PVDF matrix approximately 5% was still remained in the membranes even it had been subjected to severe reaction conditions. The decreased in crystallinity of the resulting membranes can be explained by the combination of the dilution effect and the crystal disruption that occurred within the membrane's matrix.","PeriodicalId":236344,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Science and Social Research (CSSR 2010)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130988915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The poor in the urban areas are usually the most affected as they have very limited access to land and natural resources as their source for subsistence. In this perspective, this paper investigates into the different characteristics of poor urban households and how they can affect the consumers' expenditures on children education, food, housing and utilities. As the dependent variable is dichotomous, i.e. whether they are affected or not, we use logit regression to identify the characteristics that have significant effect on the different types of households' expenditures. Besides logit regression, ANOVA and ANCOVA models were also regressed to capture the indirect effects of the households characteristics on their expenditures. From the various variables that were observed, it is found that the number of school-going children have a very significant effect on the households' education, housing and utility expenditure.","PeriodicalId":236344,"journal":{"name":"2010 International Conference on Science and Social Research (CSSR 2010)","volume":"1934 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128835278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
