One of the most effect method to cancel and reduce all contaminate noise by using adaptive filters which requires an external reference to estimate the noise and, in turn, subtracting it from the noisy ECG or ECEG. However, this is often ineffective due to the fact that the reference signal cannot be well-correlated with the noise part in the primary input. An adaptive structure used to deal with the noise without the need of external reference is addressed in this paper[1-3]. Basic idea behind this is due to the fact that ECG signals can be treated as periodic signals in some frequencies. This makes it possible for an adaptive filter to estimate the clean ECG signal from the noisy one. The usefulness of this approach is confirmed by using simulated ECG as well as real ECG from the database Patient. People are now able to gain more control over the care that is provided to them because telehealth technologies allow people to monitor and report the data that is collected to their healthcare providers. It is the providers of healthcare who then interpret the results and take necessary action. This study will observe how the provision of a wireless activity tracker influences the conscious health attitudes and behaviors in a sample of elderly participants who reside in an assisted living facility. This study will focus on the attitudes of the participants as determined by a self-report before the launch of an eight-week telehealth program, as well as at the conclusion of the program. To measure health behaviors, data was collected in regards to weight and blood pressure, as well as daily steps taken, calories burned, and distance travelled. This study is unique, thus any findings should be further studied and developed to better understand the efficacy, as well as outcomes of introducing a wireless activity tracker to any telehealth program. All information that was collected was with the consent of each individual resident, in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). The information collected by the wireless activity tracker was synchronized to the Fitbit® website (fitbit.com). The health vitals were taken by using a Bluetooth scale and an automated blood pressure cuff. The information was then recorded by the college students and entered into MyHealthPoint charts (myhealthpoint.com). This paper is to present the information gathered regarding the resident's weight and blood pressure; steps taken, calories burned, and distance travelled; demographics; various health conditions, as well as each resident's opinions regarding the activity tracker and the program in general. The goal of the research is to see how participants respond to the use of the wireless activity trackers and how the use of such a device affects their conscious health decisions and ultimately, the health of the residents.","PeriodicalId":235333,"journal":{"name":"2015 Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115732349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The feature extraction stage also assigns each minutia a quality score to indicate the image quality at the position of the minutia. Even though the quality score of a minutia is not used in matching, it can affect the matching score significantly. In this paper, we investigate the effects of minutia quality on matching a template against its sub-templates. Specifically, we study the effects of minutia quality on constructing sub-templates and the effects of randomized quality modifications on matching. While convenient and economical, at-home use of DME is susceptible to power outages, especially the ones caused by natural disasters that often occur in large area and for a long duration. There is little existing technology allowing hospitals to monitor DME-dependent patients without using the current infrastructure, such as the landlines, the cell towers, Ethernet cable or the Internet. Reported herein is a novel wireless system that utilizes a radio ad hoc network to automatically report the patient's information and location, and the DME information and status to a nearby hospital when a power outage is detected. This system consists of two parts: a hospital-based receiving device, called the Base Station node, and multiple transmitting devices, called User Nodes, each connected to the DME at patients' homes. The Base Station and User Nodes is each built with a Teensy® microcontroller, a GPS receiver module, and an Xbee® radio implementing the Zigbee® protocol. Additionally, each User Node contains a status LED and an internal lithium-ion battery connected by a charge controller. User Nodes are programmed to obtain the GPS location of the patient, monitor the DME status, communicate with nearby nodes, transmit the data and relay information to the Base Station through the radio ad hoc network the nodes form in the case of a power outage. The Base Station device is programmed to receive and convey the information transmitted from the User Nodes to a nearby hospital's patient monitoring computer through a USB connection. This system works without relying on the infrastructure, and allows hospital staff to know the information and locations of DME and their users and provide help needed during power outages.","PeriodicalId":235333,"journal":{"name":"2015 Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127677965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The minimal number of measurements necessary to estimate vehicle roll was determined. A physics-based sensor model was used to investigate the effect on estimate error over sensor field-of-view angle and for nonminimal sensor sets. The bound on error introduced by the reduced-fidelity sensor model used for estimation was detailed and discussed. The performance of the minimal, three sensor array was contrasted with a larger array and demonstrated that sub-degree accuracy is possible with the method of estimation introduced here.","PeriodicalId":235333,"journal":{"name":"2015 Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132560689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The selection of the “best” site for the DG installation is a major problem in this context. Different strategies and methods have been developed in the recent years which deal with this problem. However, Complexity of solutions and inadequate manipulation have hindered their utilization by DS planners. This paper presents a robust and practical tool which helps the distribution network planner in getting the best possible location of DG unit taking into account both reliability of supply and voltage sag problems. The method suggested uses knowledge-base expert system (ES) to help in selecting the appropriate locations. The method suggested is based on economic and technical considerations. It investigates with economic loss due to both voltage sag and forced outage of DS components. It concerns with the effect of location of the added DG on the overall network performance during both steady-state when a forced outage occurring on one or more component of the DS and transients after sudden short-circuit. Using ES avoids mathematical complications of solving complex analytical model. By judicious rule-base ES, selection of optimum locations becomes clear and simple. The suggested method is explained and implemented through practical distribution network and its effectiveness is tested and discussed.","PeriodicalId":235333,"journal":{"name":"2015 Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122304667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, almost two-thirds of smartphone users access the internet through their phones. The progression in mobile communications has spurred high interest in developing applications for this crucial market. Everyday millions of applications are developed and made available through the different appstores, i.e., Google Play, Apple store, BlackBerry World, etc. With 91% of Americans owning one or more cellphones, this is a crucial market to tap into for application developers. Due to progress in the health sciences and people awareness of the importance of following a healthier lifestyle, people are living longer leading to a demographic change where more and more nations have rapidly growing aging population. Thus, there will be a shortage of doctors to care for this fast growing aging population. Moreover, as the population ages managing multiple chronic diseases becomes a daily challenge. Also, given the size of the population, many more people will be diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Hence, proper measures are needed to encourage this population to act and think independently while taking advantage of what current technologies are offering. This paper will focus on developing mobile applications targeted for assisting select underserved audiences with affordable emerging technologies on Android and iOS platforms. These mobile apps address areas such as medical, social, and practical needs of the consumers, as well as their caregivers. Additionally, college computing students need to learn to create applications that are universally designed for all ages in terms of fonts, colors, buttons, etc.","PeriodicalId":235333,"journal":{"name":"2015 Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126160165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most popular approaches for object detection is based on combining many weak classifiers together to achieve one strong classifier through a technique called Boosting. A modified version of this technique for real-time face detection was developed by Viola and Jones, where a weak classifier is created by iteratively selecting a best single feature from a set of a very large number of potential features. During the detection process, there is a need to apply pruning techniques on the candidate results from different scales to eliminate the weak candidates and keep the most promising one. This paper presents improved pruning algorithms that result in reducing the number of false positives. For object detection, a complete framework is implemented based on Viola and Jones, then the proposed pruning algorithms are applied to obtain better detection results.","PeriodicalId":235333,"journal":{"name":"2015 Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126514693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the proposed solutions is to use dummy data sources, where dummy traffic is introduced to obfuscate the real traffic. This makes the adversary no longer able to see difference between real and fake traffic. In this solution, every node becomes a dummy data source and sends dummy packets to neighbor nodes, which create dummy traffic and hide the real packet from adversary. This technique uses flooding method for routing. Every node sends the received packet to all its neighbor nodes except the one which initiated the process. However, this technique has several disadvantages, most important, large bandwidth and energy consumption. In this paper, we propose a novel protocol which uses dummy data sources with variable packet size to provide security and conserve energy in WSN.","PeriodicalId":235333,"journal":{"name":"2015 Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125643988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
